New Release: Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey + Review!

Fangirl Down by Tessa Bailey is now available!

Blurb:

Wells Whitaker was once golf’s hottest rising star, but lately, all he has to show for his “promising” career is a killer hangover, a collection of broken clubs, and one remaining supporter. No matter how bad he plays, the beautiful, sunny redhead is always on the sidelines. He curses, she cheers. He scowls, she smiles. But when Wells quits in a blaze of glory and his fangirl finally goes home, he knows he made the greatest mistake of his life.

Josephine Doyle believed in the gorgeous, grumpy golfer, even when he didn’t believe in himself. Yet after he throws in the towel, she begins to wonder if her faith was misplaced. Then a determined Wells shows up at her door with a wild proposal: be his new caddy, help him turn his game around, and split the prize money. And considering Josephine’s professional and personal life is in shambles, she could really use the cash…

As they travel together, spending days on the green and nights in neighboring hotel rooms, sparks fly. Before long, they’re inseparable, Wells starts winning again, and Josephine is surprised to find a sweet, thoughtful guy underneath his gruff, growly exterior. This hot man wants to brush her hair, feed her snacks, and take bubble baths together? Is this real life? But Wells is technically her boss and an athlete falling for his fangirl would be ridiculous… right?

Review:

4-4.25 stars. This was a good book! Fangirl Down is the first book in her Big Shots series. This is Josephine and Wells's book. Wells is a failing PGA golfer with a grumpy disposition. His game and his life has gone down the tubes. His biggest fan is Josephine. She goes to his tournaments and holds up signs for him, cheering loudly. But when Wells quits golf in a spectacular fashion mid-game, even Josephine goes home. He decides he misses seeing his number one fan and goes to her house, leading to him offering her a job as his caddy and to help him turn his game around. Josephine needs the money to help restore her family's pro shop that was flooded and to pay for her medicine for her diabetes. She is no slouch of a golfer herself and seems to have the magic touch in keeping Wells in line and playing better. Wells, himself, just wants to be around the sunny caddy and is willing to do what she says. His game starts improving and she travels with him to his tournaments, falling for each other along the way.

This was a really good story. Wells was obsessed with Josephine. He was adorably possessive and grumpy, while Jo was sweet and sunny. They had amazing chemistry and both were all-in with each other, without much resistance. They did have to figure out how to make things work when real life can creeping in. The final conflict was a little blown out of proportion to me and I wanted more compromise to avoid it, but I still enjoyed the book. The ending was really cute too. Josephine and Wells were a great couple. Their story was sweet and sexy. I hadn't read a golf romance before so it was unique in that aspect, along with Jo being a heroine with diabetes, which was interesting and different as well.

Overall, Fangirl down was a good book. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, The Au Pair Affair, which feature's Josephine's friend and Well's friend, who is a pro hockey player.

Tessa Bailey Signing 2/13

I had the pleasure of going to a discussion and signing for Tessa Bailey on the actual release day of Fangirl Down at Books a Million in Lawrenceville, GA. It was so fun to meet Tessa. I have read her books for nine years, listened to her on the Read Me Romance podcast for several years during her stint as a podcaster, and have been a huge fan of the way she writes nearly-unmatched chemistry between her characters. She is as funny and down to earth as she appears on her Tik Toks and I really enjoyed hearing her talk about and answer questions about Fangirl Down. Leading the discussion, was fellow author BB Easton, who I have met before at Book Bonanza, but is a really fun person to meet as well.

New Release: The Last Days of Lilah Goodluck by Kylie Scott + Review!

The Last Days of Lilah Goodluck by Kylie Scott is now available!

“Be quiet and listen: He is cheating on you. The name of your soulmate is Alistair George Arthur Lennox. You will be passed over for the promotion. The winning numbers are 5-8-12-24-39-43. And I’m very sorry to tell you this, but you will die next Sunday.”

When Lilah Goodluck saves the life of Good Witch Willow as they’re crossing a busy L.A. street, the last thing she expects is five unwanted predictions as a reward. Who gives someone the winning lotto numbers then tells them they’ve only got a week to live? And who believes in that nonsense anyway?

But when the first three predictions come true within twenty-four hours, Lilah’s disbelief turns to mild panic. She’s further horrified when she nearly runs a car off the road that belongs to Alistair Lennox, who just happens to be the illegitimate son of the British king.

While Alistair is intrigued by her preposterous story, Lilah is adamant about resisting the heat between her and the playboy prince. If she denies he’s her soulmate, then the last prediction can’t come true, right? As the days count down, they become maybe friends…and then maybe more. But between the relentless paparazzi and some disapproving royals, finding time for love isn’t easy, especially when her days may be numbered.

Red White and Royal Blue meets The Last Holiday in this delightfully quirky novel from the New York Times bestselling author of End of Story, about a woman who unexpectedly finds "fall in love with a prince" at the top of her bucket list.

Review:

3.75-4 stars
****

This was a cute book! The Last Days of Lilah Goodluck is a standalone book by Kylie Scott. It is Lilah and Alistair's story. Lilah goes to her friend's bachelorette party, where there is a hired fortune teller. She is too busy having fun with her friends to have her fortune read and doesn't put much stock in it anyway. However, on her way walking home, the fortune teller, an older women, nearly gets hit by a car and Lilah saves her from disaster. As a repayment, the fortune teller tells her this, “Be quiet and listen: He is cheating on you. The name of your soulmate is Alistair George Arthur Lennox. You will be passed over for the promotion. The winning numbers are 5-8-12-24-39-43. And I’m very sorry to tell you this, but you will die next Sunday.” Lilah thinks it's silly ramblings, but she gets home to find her live-in boyfriend cheating on her. Then she happens to run in to Alistair in public. Alistair is the illegitimate son of the King of England. His life is tabloid fodder and he is constantly in the news. So Lilah knows who he is. And the other premonitions also start to come true. She decides to create a bucket list of sorts of things she wants to experience, just in case she only has days to live. She tells Alistair of the fortune teller's predictions and though he doesn't believe them, he wants to help her. They become friends and then more as they spend the week together leading up to Sunday. But will that truly be the date Lilah dies?

This book was charming, unique and whimsical. I really liked Lilah and Alistair. The book took place over a week, but their romance seemed slow burn with plenty of time to get to know each other and fall in love. Alistair was the grumpy, silent type at first until he lets his guard down with Lilah. She herself was a charming librarian who spoke her mind. She was just what Alistair needed in his life.

Overall, this book had the perfect recipe for romance. It was sweet, sexy and witty with a touch of magic. I enjoyed it and look forward to more from Kylie Scott in the future!
