New Release: The Witch's Gift by C. C. Wood + Review!

99¢ Suprise release from C. C. Wood!
A quick holiday novella you can read while you're waiting in line for Black Friday shopping or if you're staying in to avoid the crowds

Blurb:

I wanted to escape the family holiday celebration for a little while. Especially the warlocks Aunt Fenella keeps trying to set me up with. They're all the same. Polite. Good-looking. Boring. So I found a nice quiet bar and planned to have a drink. Maybe flirt with someone cute.

Instead, I meet the hottest man I've ever seen.

And he's a werewolf.

The truce between the witches and the shifter pack of Dallas is new, and I'm still wary. I should stay way from him but I can see the pain in Blake's eyes and the grief that surrounds him.

He needs comfort. Even if it's just for tonight.

I never expected one night with him to change everything. How do I go back to my normal life after love at first bite?

*Originally published as The Witch and the Wolf in A Very Werey Christmas anthology.

The Witch's Gift was a fun, quick read. This is Candela and Blake's story. Candela is visiting her family for the Holidays. Her aunt has been trying to fix her up with boring men and she is tired of it. So she escapes for the night to a bar where she meets a hot werewolf named Blake. Holiday cheer and sparks fly in this sexy and sweet tale.

I enjoyed this story. Candela and Blake make a good couple, if a little light on the chemistry front. Also, the story felt a little on the short side for a standalone book, but that did not hamper my enjoyment. Overall, though, The Witch's Gift was an entertaining, fun, sweet and sexy read to curl up with on a cold Winter's night.

Blurb:

  Dear Santa,
Please stop by my house and pick up your suit. If you thought I was going to run it to the dry cleaners for you after you left it on my bedroom floor, you’ve got another think coming.
Best, Noel Winter

Excerpt:

“That’s quite the package you’ve got there, Santa.” I roll my hips against him, hoping we can move this into my bedroom. Or we can just stay here and take off our pants. I’m not picky.
“Did you really just make a dirty Santa joke?” His tone is incredulous but he’s laughing. Which is totally normal in the midst of a hookup.
“Err, maybe? Too much?”
“Maybe just a little. Unless you’ve got a genuine Santa fetish you want to disclose at this time.”
“I don’t.” I shake my head vigorously while running my hands across his chest again. Really really nice chest hair.
“Glad to hear it.”
“Would it have been a deal-killer if I had?” I press. Why in the hell am I asking? Now I’m laughing too. At myself.
“I think we could have worked something out.” Teddy manages to say this like he means it, which is rather nice of him.
“Thanks.”
“Do you have any others?”
“Fetishes?” I perk up. I don’t actually, but it’s nice to be asked, isn’t it? Maybe I can develop one. A really good one I can use to establish my street cred on the kink scene in Reindeer Falls.
As if Reindeer Falls has a kink scene.
I start laughing again.
“Bad Christmas jokes,” Teddy clarifies with an amused grin.
“Oh, those. For sure.”
“You’re a lot of fun, Noel.”
“Agreed,” I say with a straight face.
“A half-naked woman telling bad Christmas jokes is every man’s fantasy, am I right? Wait, unless…” I drag out the pause, a dramatic frown covering my face. “Unless bad Christmas jokes are your fetish?”

Eva

“Make a sound and she dies.”
His gun pressed to the woman’s temple, Dimitri speaks in Russian, his voice as soft as silk. His smile says he assumes I’ll obey his instruction, because experience has taught him that I will.
This is an old game between us, one I know well. A game called Do What I Say, or Someone Innocent Suffers.
In this case, the someone innocent is a terrified stranger holding a bottle of wine who Dimitri used as a lure. She really could be the woman who owns the Airbnb rental Naz and I checked into, which she identified herself as when I asked through the closed door of the apartment moments ago, but I’ll probably never know.
Because her brains are about to paint the porch red.
Sorry, lady. I stopped taking orders from this asshole a while ago.
My scream is a wild beast of a thing, tearing out of my throat with fangs and claws. It’s long, loud, and composed of a single word.
“Naz!”
The woman jumps, drops the bottle of wine, and bursts into hysterical tears.
Dimitri is so stunned by my disobedience that he simply stares at me in blank disbelief.
I take advantage of his surprise and kick him as hard as I can in his balls.
He doubles over with a roar but doesn’t drop the gun. The woman shrieks like an air-raid siren. Naz calls out from somewhere behind me, a panicked shout, but my attention is caught by the sound of heavy boots pounding up the wooden stairs to the second-story apartment. I only have time to scream Naz’s name again before a group of armed men dressed all in black swarm the landing at the top of the stairs and crowd there shoulder to shoulder.
Dimitri’s soldiers point a forest of handguns at my face.
The woman’s eyes roll back into her head, which makes a dull thud as it hits the landing’s iron rail on her way down to the floor. She flops sideways, unconscious, legs splayed. Her plaid housedress rides up, exposing flabby thighs the color and texture of curdled milk.
“Take her!” snarls Dimitri through gritted teeth. His eyes blaze cyborg blue, but he’s still doubled over, cradling his groin.
I spin around to run but am caught by my T-shirt and yanked backward. My back bumps into a solid surface. A forearm as hard as an iron bar snaps into place around my throat. I scream again, struggling and clawing at the arm that holds me, but my scream is cut short as the arm tightens like a vise.
As stars pop in my vision, Naz emerges from the bedroom with his gun in his hand.
He strides toward us, arm outstretched, fully nude and heartbreakingly gorgeous.
“Stop where you are!” shouts Dimitri in English.
Apparently he’s recovered from my attack on his balls, because he jerks upright and shoves the barrel of his gun under my jaw. My teeth clack together with the force of it.
Naz freezes in place. His eyes are black and wild. His hair is wet. He’s dripping with moisture from the shower, his body gleaming, his chest heaving up and down with each breath.
Each labored, fury-filled breath. I can almost taste his rage. It’s a sharp metallic tang in the air, dangerous enough to cause spontaneous combustion. There’s a moment of electric silence where the only sound is the harsh breathing of the man who’s holding me. His mouth is so close to my ear that his hot breath is a wash of steam down my neck. Then Naz takes a careful step forward, and Dimitri speaks.
“Yes, come closer. If you want her dead.”
Naz freezes again. He’s focused on Dimitri with extraordinary intensity, his eyes unblinking and his jaw like stone. He appears to have no self-consciousness about his nudity and no fear that he’s staring down a dozen muzzles of loaded guns. Every muscle in his powerful body is tensed, ready to strike.
He’s magnificent. David challenging Goliath, the light of vengeance in his eyes.
Please, God, don’t let him be about to die!

Dangerous Games is the last book in the Dangerous Beauty trilogy and the conclusion to Naz and Eva's story. At the end of book two, Eva is kidnapped by her evil, dangerous ex. In this book, she must fight to survive his sick and twisted treatment and to get back to Naz.

I enjoyed this book in general. It is fast paced, suspenseful and an interesting story. However, I have to mention that Naz and Eva are separated for most of the book (from 0-87%). Because of that, the book did not feel like a romance to me. It was more of an action, suspense book with a dash of romance at the very end. I definitely need more romance in the books I read and I don't really read other genres. I also had a hard time because Naz and Eva fall in love in book one, but that love did not really carry over through two more books without much more time spent together. I think the series suffered because the couple was separated so much.. The last 13% of this book was my favorite part and was very sweet. Still, the book kept my attention and was an easy read. I was happy that Naz and Eva got their happy ending. I really liked them both and admired the resolve they had to survive and be together. I wish we had gotten to really see and feel how their life ended up, instead of it being mentioned without seeing firsthand.

Overall, I did enjoy the story told in this series, even if I didn't totally love every bit of the execution. If you like romantic suspense that is heavy on the action and lighter on the romance, then you would probably love this. I still enjoy Ms. Geissinger's books and look forward to more from her in the future.

AngryTink: Hey. This is Parker. Parker Brown.

My phone dinged loudly. I fumbled around my bed, finally finding the damn thing under a pillow. Wiping the sleep off my face, I rolled onto my back and read the text that had pulled me out of a pleasant sleep. I smiled. It was just so … Parker. Settling in, I answered her.

RhysThis: Don’t have to tell me who you are. Your number is programmed on my phone. What do you want?

AngryTink: Well, good morning to you too, Happy Pants.

My smile turned into an evil grin. The girl was always going to punch back and make it count.

RhysThis: That’s Mr. Happy Pants. Though, TBH, my pants aren’t too happy at the moment. Want to help me out with that?

AngryTink: Tempting. Truly. But, no.

RhysThis: RU sure? ‘Cuz Happy Pants Rhys is much more agreeable than Sad That He Had to Self-Satisfy Rhys.

AngryTink: Would you please behave?

RhysThis: I’m not the one who mentioned the emotional state of my pants.

AngryTink: ARGH!

A chuckle rumbled in my chest as my thumbs tapped out a response I knew would piss her off more.

RhysThis: Was that even English? Honestly, Ms. Brown, I thought you were educated.

She took a moment to answer. I could picture her, phone in hand, grinding her teeth.

AngryTink: You’re deliberately trying to annoy me, aren’t you?

RhysThis: You’re quick. I’ll give you that.

AngryTink: Mr. Morgan, I’m about ten seconds away from finding an alternate fake boyfriend. A goat on a rope would be a better candidate at this point.

It was cute she thought that was threatening.

RhysThis: Yeah, probably. But the goat doesn’t have a signed contract. I do, Tinker Bell.

AngryTink: ARGH@!!

RhysThis: You’re kind of cute when you talk pirate.

This book was really good! Outmatched is Rhys and Parker's book. Rhys is the owner of a struggling boxing gym and a retired professional boxing champion. Parker is trying to make her way in the environmental business industry. She has a chauvinist jerk for a boss, who frowns upon single employees and wants them to be family focused. So she finds someone on a dating app to be her fake boyfriend for business functions, for pay. In a comedy of errors, Rhys ends up taking the job. As the two spend time together, their fake relationship turns into very real feelings of love.

I really liked Rhys and Parker. Their relationship was a great, slow burn romance. It was a reluctant fake relationship of convenience and opposites attract with a dash of enemies to lovers. The two were not an obvious match at first. Parker's family was more well off and she is tiny, but smart and driven. Rhys is a tougher guy. His father died leaving him in massive debt and wondering if he will lose his business. They are from opposite sides of the track. But together, the two were sweet, sexy, and had fun banter and great chemistry.

Overall, I really enjoyed Outmatched! Rhys and Parker's relationship development was a lot of fun to see. I think Ms. Callihan and Ms. Young make a great team and I look forward to more from them both in the future!

New Release: Mancuffed by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby + Review!

Mancuffed by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby is now available!

Blurb:

A new comedy from the USA Today bestselling duo!

Mac

A good cop can always spot trouble. That’s why my senses started pinging the moment I met the hottie next door. The neighborhood may never be the same. First she confuses me for a male stripper and tries to remove my uniform. (The guys on the force will never let me live that down.) And then there’s the breaking and entering.
I don’t know what to do with her. My libido has a few ideas of its own, though. Bad, bad ideas.

Meg

Hey, it’s not my fault that Hot Cop’s nightstick gets excited every time we see each other. And I can’t help that someone broke into his apartment.
Fine—that last thing was totally my fault. And I intend to make amends. So when he needs a date for his sister’s wedding, I’m there. This is right up my alley. I’m an actor. By the time it’s over, his entire family will believe we’re a couple.
Even him.

Warning: may cause unrestrained giggling in public. Contains: a bridezilla with a turkey leg, a flash mob, and a growly hero.

Mancuffed is a light, entertaining, and funny romp. This is Meg and Mac's story. Meg is an actress, working as a waitress in a pub, when she mistakes Mac in his cop uniform for a stripper. They have instant chemistry, but the moment passes them by. Fast forward several months and Meg moves to the apartment next door to his. They become reacquainted when she hears his very loud f-buddy and him going at it through the walls all the time. Still, she is interested in him and is glad when he is single again. The two start spending time together and eventually dating.

This is a fun, light, easy read. I have to admit, I was turned off by the initial premise. I do not really get into scenarios where the heroine has has to hear the hero have sexy times with others. But Mac and his f-buddy part ways somewhat quickly and there is a break before he and Meg get together. After that, it was obvious these two were a good match. I really liked both Meg and Mac. I felt their opposite personalities definitely attracted each other. Mac is a gruff, sometimes grumpy and closed off, strong silent type. He isn't interested in a relationship and is more focused on getting his promotion at work. Still, he finds Meg intriguing and irresistible. Meg is a sweet, outgoing, full of life type girl. She is the one that flirts with Mac and makes her interest known. She does the chasing here and she is pretty forgiving when Mac messes up. There is a bit of ex-drama, involving Mac's ex and his brother, but I wasn't too bothered by it. Mostly the book is light on drama, heavier on the entertainment and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Overall, Mac and Meg's story is a fun rom-com. There is an interesting story, good writing and has some cute and funny moments. If you enjoyed the other books in this serioes, you will definitely enjoy this book. I have liked this series a lot and look forward to more to come from Ms. Bowen and Ms. Eby in the future.

I am hot, hard, and in need of this woman in ways that I have never needed in my life. Every time I think she’s taken all I have to give, she takes more. But so do I. I want it all with Emma. I want all of her and nothing less. And so, my kiss, my touch, my very breath, right here and now, is all about demand. I demand. She demands. I touch her. Her hands are all over me. We’re wild. We’re burning alive. I rotate her, and somehow, she crashes against the wall. “Oh hell. Sorry, baby.” She laughs, that sweet sexy laugh of hers. “I like it rough.” I laugh, and damn, it feels good. We’re back to us right now. Will it last? I hope like hell it does. I kiss her again, and we erupt into a frenzy of touching and tugging off clothing until we’re both naked. I sit down in the chair in the corner, dragging her on top of me. Her arms wrap around my neck, her sweet floral scent teasing my nostrils, clinging to my skin. I caress a path up her spine, molding her closer. “I’m not letting you go,” I say. “That’s not happening.” “Remember that,” she whispers. “Whatever happens. Remember that.” She reaches for my mouth, and I tangle my fingers in her hair, slanting my mouth over hers. Awareness hits that she’s just spoken those words as if they preclude a bloody war, and maybe it will. Maybe it already has, but right now, it’s her and me, and the rest of the world doesn’t exist. Our lips collide, and when I kiss her this time, it’s with a clawing hunger for some unnamed something that only she can name. Revenge, satisfaction, grief, pain, happiness. All things lead back to Emma. She needs to save her brother. I didn’t save mine. My need for her is the only outlet for what I know is guilt. I didn’t save my brother. I didn’tfucking save him. I drag my mouth from hers, the taste of her, so damn sweet, so damn addictive, lingering on my lips. “Emma,” I whisper, biting back words about her brother I know she doesn’t want to hear, but I need to say them. “Not now,” she whispers. “Just us right now.” Her lips press to mine. Her tongue presses past my teeth, and when it touches mine, a whisper of a caress, I swear I feel that tease in the throb of my cock and the racing of my heart. I close my hand around her hair where it rests on her head, kissing the hell out of her, and I admit that part of me is angry at her, not just myself. Why did she make me care this damn much? Why did she complicate my revenge? Another part of me thanks God that she did. I’m thinking too much, and I drive away any semblance of reality, savoring the sweetness of her on my tongue, the weight of her breasts in my hands. The sounds, those sexy sounds she makes, radiating along my nerve endings.

REVIEW:

****

Two Together is the third book in the Naked Trilogy and the conclusion to Emma and Jax's story. In the first two books, we learn that Emma's father has recently died and certain events have left her confused and wondering who he really was. Jax's brother has died under mysterious circumstances and he is left wondering if he was murdered. Both Emma and Jax work for their family companies, big corporations in whiskey and the hotel industry. The companies have been rivals and sometimes enemies. Jax thinks Emma's family may have had something to do with his brother's death. He sets out to meet her and use her to get information from her. But when the two meet, they discover explosive chemistry and kindred spirits. Together, the two must navigate a world of secrets, lies and mystery to reach the truth, and they fall in love along the way. Now, the couple is embroiled in the mystery of their family's past and investigating who killed Jax's brother. They have to discover who they can trust and what really happened, so that they can move and to have a happy future together.

I think this trilogy is my favorite one by Ms. Jones in quite awhile. Her standalone books will always be my favorites, but the Naked trilogy comes close. I really enjoyed that this story did not seem to be drawn out with filler to fill up a trilogy. The story and the mystery were intricate and a lot went on to fill up three books. I really liked Emma and Jax. They were a great, strong, sweet and sexy couple. There was not too much pushing away, instead they clung to each other during hard times. The book had some sad moments and I wish that it had a happier resolution, but I was happy that Emma and Jax got their HEA. A jump ahead epilogue would have been nice, as well. Still, Two Together had the perfect blend of romance and suspense, along with a good pace.

Overall, I really enjoyed the conclusion to this trilogy. Jax and Emma had great chemistry and I definitely felt their love. I enjoyed seeing their relationship journey play out. I was happy they survived everything they went through to get their HEA. I am still a fan of Ms. Jones' work and look forward to what she comes up with next.
