New Release: The Redemption by Nikki Sloane + Review!

The Redemption - RB banner.jpg

“I excelled at many things, but the one thing I hadn’t mastered was losing with grace.” Macalister Hale

The Redemption, book four in the Filthy Rich Americans Saga, by USA Today bestselling author, Nikki Sloane, is LIVE!

FinalCover.jpg

Once, the name Macalister Hale was uttered in the boardroom with respect. Now, it’s whispered in disgrace at cocktail parties hosted by Boston’s elite.
Scandal nearly destroyed me, but the one thing larger than my infamy is my bank account, and I’ve learned money can solve anything.
Well—almost anything.
Sophia Alby’s preferred currency is secrets and the way she trades information puts Wall Street to shame.
This girl charges into my life and claims a partnership can restore my reputation. My downfall was swift, but with her, my climb to redemption will be greater.
Our arrangement is professional. Appropriate. It has to be, because she’s half my age. But it doesn’t stop me from wanting . . .
To move on. To control and indulge in her. To hear the name Macalister Hale echo in her breathy moans.
But I can’t. Giving in to temptation led to my undoing before, and I won’t survive it a second time.
To the rest of the world I’m the villain, but to her? I’ll be the hero.

The Redemption is book four in the Filthy Rich Americans Saga and is Macalister Hale's story.

4 stars
****

This was a good book! The Redemption is the fourth book in the Filthy Rich Americans series and is Macalister's book. Macalister is the fallen king of wealthy society, as well as Royce's father and rival for Marist's affections in previous books. At the end of the previous book, an accident happened when his wife attacked him and their scuffle led to a fall and her death. He went to prison for two years as punishment. Now, he is out and trying to regain his place in society and his business. Sophia was a peripheral character in the previous books. An acquaintance to Royce and Marist, she, to,o is trying to come into her own and find her place in business and life, as well as to get over some past family troubles. She approaches Macalister for a job, to become his assistant and to help him makeover his reputation in society. She is tenacious, and while she wants to help him, she also wants his help in getting revenge for her past. The two begin working together and make a strong pair. They discover a fiery chemistry and connection, overcoming all the reasons why they should not be together and leading to love.

I liked this book a good bit. I was a little wary going into this book because I wasn't a fan of Macalister in the previous books in the series. But he definitely redeemed himself in this book. He changed and became a better man, with Sophia's help. I also wasn't sure I liked Sophia after the previous books, but we really got to know her here and she came into her own. She is a hard worker and willing to do what she needed to do to get what she wanted. I ended up liking them both a lot and feeling a strong connection between them. I wasn't sure that I liked that they did not have a connection when they met in the previous books, which made it take me a while to feel chemistry between them in this book. But once I did, I enjoyed this book. Sophia had spunk and she challenged Macalister. They helped each other become less lonely and better people.
I felt that their connection and feelings for each other far surpassed the feelings Macalister thought he had for Marist and his ex-wife in the past. They were also super hot together. The story was simple, but interesting. I liked this book the most out of the series. It was not as dark, hopeless, unsafe feeling or angsty, which I liked, and was all tied up in one book, as well.

Overall, Sophia and Macalister's story is full of redemption, hope, sexiness, and love. It was great to see him finally overcome his past and get a happy ending, too. The Redemption was an entertaining journey. I look forward to more from this series and Ms. Sloane in the future!

PIKE FRONT COVER

I was raised by the violent laws of the streets, spilling blood without the hindrance of useless emotions or connections.
Unfeeling. Unloved. Alone.
My life was perfect.
Until her.
While on a manhunt for a mysterious enemy, one hellbent on taking both my business and my life, I find Mickey. She's covered in mud, rambling nonsense, and clearly out of her mind.
She's also a distraction I don't need.
That is until I discover a connection between the girl and my enemy.
Mickey isn't a distraction anymore.
She's the perfect weapon.
One I'll use to exact my revenge.
The plan is an easy one, but there's something about Mickey that's making it more and more difficult.
A familiarity I can't place. A need I can't explain.
A want I have to deny.
After all, she's not mine to keep. She's a tool. My pawn.
My sacrifice.

This book was pretty good, but not my favorite by this author. Pike is book one in the Pawn duet and the beginning of Pike and Mickey/Michaela's story. Pike is a drug dealer who sells gets drugs from sources in other countries in mass quantities and distributes them to the lower level dealers. He also owns a pawn shop. Mickey is very strong, but she has a tragic past and had excruciating losses that she wants to extract revenge for. She has a plan to get that revenge but things go bad, landing her on Pike's doorstep. I don't think I can say much more than that without spoiling the story. I'll just say that this is a fast paced, twisty story full of action and suspense.

This was not a bad book. The story was interesting and easy to read. It kept my attention throughout and kept me wanting to read the next book in the duet. But I had a really hard time connecting to the characters and getting a grasp on their personalities. I felt like I knew facts about them, but that it was all surface level without much depth. I also felt very little chemistry between the couple. But the story and the writing were enough to keep my interest and my hope up that the next book will be a satisfying conclusion to this duet.

Overall, I enjoyed this book in general. I look forward to the conclusion of Pike and Mickey's story and whatever Ms. Frazier comes up with next!

Excerpt

I raise the gun in both hands, aiming it at his chest. "I have to go. You can't stop me," I say, with all the resolve I have left. “You’re going to trade me and ambush them, but don’t you think they have the same plans for you? I have to go, and that way, fewer people will die. YOU won’t die. So, just let me leave. I have a plan. It will work. I’ll take them down for both of us.” “No.” Pike looks from me to the gun. "And as I’ve told you before, you're not going anywhere." His words are dark and menacing. An amused smile turns up the corners of his lips. It's infuriating. He's infuriating. I straighten my shoulders. "What's so funny?" I ask, swallowing down the rising fear in my throat. I remind myself of one important fact to keep from choking on that fear. I'm the one holding the gun. Instead of freezing or retreating as one would do in this situation, Pike takes a bold step forward, catching me off guard. I stagger backward, but I'm not fast enough. He reaches out, and at first, I think he's going for the weapon, but he doesn't. He confuses me as he wraps his hands around mine, tightening my grip around the gun. He lifts my hands and bends slightly at the waist, forcefully pressing the barrel against his forehead. "You wanna shoot me, Mic? Then, fucking shoot me," he dares, with wild blood shoot eyes. My mouth drops open, but words don't come out. I expected Pike to defend himself. To come at me. To step aside and let me leave, even though it was the least possible of all the outcomes. I didn't plan for this. I can do this. I have to do this. "Not what you were expecting?" His tone is both mocking and rage-filled. "I know what that pretty brain of yours is thinking. You want me to attack you and make pulling the trigger easier on that conscious of yours." He bites out a laugh. "Not gonna happen. If you want to do this, I'm not going to stand in your way, but you're not fucking leaving either. So, come on. Shoot me. Go ahead. Do what you planned to do." His eyes narrow with determination. My hands shake in his. "Pull the fucking trigger!" The air around us is thick and charged. My skin breaks out in a sheen of sweat. My adrenaline spikes and I feel all too alert. Too aware of what's taking place between us. I grip the gun tighter and gaze into his dark eyes, his pupils are large and covering every hint of color within them. Behind the anger and determination, there's something else that I didn't expect. Something that I'm all too familiar with. Hurt. Pain that mirrors my own. Desperation that calls out to me like a piece of my soul trapped within Pike. "Shoot me!" he cries, his face red with anger, teeth bared like a wild animal. "Fucking shoot me!" With those words, my fiery resolve dissolves into ash. I step back, needing to put some distance between us, but Pike doesn't have the same thought. He follows me backward, keeping his grip tight on my hands and the gun between them. "I…I can't do this," I whisper, releasing my grip on the gun. Pike releases his hold on me, catching the gun before it can fall to the floor. Shit. I look to the window, but it's too high, and Pike is directly in front of the only door. There's no escape. So much for being brave. Instead, I've signed my own death warrant. My heart races erratically with the realization that this is it. It's over. I'm over. "This was a really stupid fucking move for someone who claims to be so smart, " Pike sneers. He raises the gun. I pinch my eyes shut, waiting for the feel the bullet of his wrath to pierce my skin. I hear a thud, and my eyes fly open and land on the carpet where Pike's tossed the gun to the floor. My eyes meet his in silent question. Why? He answers by charging, a one-man stampede I can't avoid as he barrels toward me. His chest crashes against mine, and my head connects with the wall with a thud that rattles my bones. I'm dizzy as fear lands in my gut like a ball of fire. My pulse races as his closeness consumes me. The smell of cologne and cigarettes lingers between us—a trace of whiskey on his breath. "You're going to regret not pulling that trigger," he sneers. The darkness in Pike's eyes tells me that, gun or no gun, I'm not getting out of this unpunished. Or possibly even alive. I swallow hard. He cages me in with his hands against the wall beside me, engulfing me in the heat and rage radiating from his hard body. I feel his heart beating fast beneath his chest now pressed against mine. "What to do with you now?" Pike muses, his breath ragged. His voice full of promise and warning. He brushes his lips over my temple. I tremble at the contact. "You're going to pay for that little stunt, Mic." He's close. Too close. I'm entirely rigid, frozen in place. This wasn't supposed to happen. How did I let this happen? I'm the most terrified I've ever been, and yet there's something else I can't understand. Something else between us that's charging the air, causing me to shake, and it's not just from fear. Hatred mixed with need. The yearning I've denied for him is no longer lying dormant. It's as real as the ache growing in my stomach, the wetness between my thighs. If I thought the room felt charged before, it's damn near on fire now. The flames of desire and hate lick at the walls around us, setting everything ablaze, making the small room feel smaller, closing in around us. My nipples harden as they brush against his chest. I suck in a gasp. He doesn't miss my reaction. He looks to where my nipples are straining against my shirt with heated eyes. The only sound in the room is our mutual heavy breathing as he slowly pulls his gaze from my chest. His eyes lock on mine. For a few seconds, we just stare at each other—foreheads lined with confusion and anger. A silent dare. My mind, on the other hand, is anything but silent. “Should I kill you or fuck you?” he muses. And I’m honestly not sure what scares me more. His anger or his desire. He brushes the backs of his knuckles against my jaw. "Maybe, both." "What do you—" I don't have time to finish my question because his lips are on mine. He hoists me in the air, and my legs wrap around his waist on instinct. It's an angry joining of clacking teeth and biting lips. A war we are still fighting both with each other and ourselves. He growls at me when I pierce his lip, drawing blood. He licks the blood with his tongue then kisses me again, this time harder. A punishing kiss that has me growling at him in return. His coppery blood on my tongue tastes like victory. He licks his way between my lips, pushing his tongue into my mouth, licking and devouring with rough determined strokes. With a jerk of his hips, he presses the massive erection beneath his jeans between my legs, the pleasure that courses through me has me momentary seeing stars. I grind down on him in return. He hisses in response, baring his teeth against my lips. "You're going to pay for that, Mic," he warns, taking my mouth in another kiss that has us grunting and growling at one another like starved animals fighting over the last scrap of food. But neither of us is about to give up. He pushes me back onto the bed, falling with me over my body, my legs splayed on both sides of his hips as he presses his cock again between my legs. I arch my back, needing to feel more. Needing for there to be nothing between us but desire. For each other, and to win. But, this is no longer a game we're playing. It's a battle. A war neither of us can win. But, one in which we will both go down fighting.

This book was an okay read for me. The Pretend Prince is Lia and Julius's story. Three years ago, Lia went undercover as a journalist on The Bachelor, where she met Prince Julius. She developed real feelings for him and eventually refused to do her assignment. She and Julius fell in love and he chose her as his final pick, but he found out about her original reason for being on the show and dumped her. Now, Lia is still struggling to be a journalist and her boss, who has a family vendetta against him, wants her to write an expose on Julius and the royal family, by getting close to him. But she doesn't want to hurt him again so she goes to him to let him know. Julius hates Lia for what she did to him in the past and is very rude and punishing to her. But they come to an agreement that she will pretend to be doing her assignment and they will pretend to be dating to the press. As they spend time together again, they discover they have unresolved feelings that they must work out between them.

This book is an enemies to lovers story, which doesn't always work for me and I didn't realize before I started the book. Julius was a big jerk to Lia, which made it hard for me to like him. Lia felt bad for her past and that she hurt Julius, so she martyred herself and took his poor treatment willingly. I didn't really understand why she liked him so much and wanted him back. As this is a second chance love story, I think I missed out by not seeing the couple fall in love in the first place. Also, during their separation, Lia was celibate, but Julius immediately jumped into a serious relationship that lasted until the present. He was still being hateful to her up until the end, when they finally decided to be together. I just had a hard time feeling the love between them and then the book ends at 88%. Overall, I was a little bit disappointed in this book because I have enjoyed all of the other books in this series a lot. Still, I did like the story overall and the writing is good. I enjoyed the book in general. I still love the world building in this series and I liked Lia's character. The book is an easy, entertaining read, even if it wasn't my favorite in the series. I look forward to more from Ms. Karr in the future!

While their love is strictly forbidden, it might be the only thing that can save them…

Reborn Yesterday, an all-new unique and unforgettable paranormal romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey, is available now.

Reborn Yesterday AMAZON

A timeless love story with bite.

It was a night like any other for funeral home director Ginny Lynn, until the exceptionally handsome—and unfortunately deceased—young man on her embalming table sat up, opened his emerald eyes and changed the course of her life forever, making her feel quite fluttery while he was at it.
Humans aren’t supposed to know Jonas Cantrell, or any vampire, exists. It’s kind of a major rule. Despite his instantaneous bond with perfectly peculiar Ginny, he has no choice but to erase her memories of their one and only meeting.

That was the plan. Before a reluctant Jonas can wipe Ginny’s mind clean, she reveal a secret that brings their worlds crashing together. Human and vampire. Past and present. Darkness and light. And while their love is strictly forbidden, it might be the only thing that can save them…

REVIEW:

This was a pretty good book. Reborn Yesterday is Ginny and Jonas's story. Ginny took over her father's funeral home business after he died and prepares bodies for burial. Imagine her surprise when one of those bodies is a super hot guy who wakes up on the table. Quickly she realizes that he is not alive, but undead. That is he's a vampire. Ginny has an instant connection to Jonas and he keeps popping up to check on her at the oddest times. Life gets very interesting for her and she falls in love with her hot vampire prince.

I liked this book and I really liked Jonas and Ginny. She was very quirky and cute. He adored her so much. Their relationship is pretty slow burn. They had a great soulmate connection and I really felt the love between them. The world building was a little vague on purpose to keep the reader guessing, but I was a little confused by the rules, even at the end. I also was a little confused about the references to past lives and what actually happened there. And I also wanted a little more closure and conversation after the climax, as the end felt a little rushed. But I still enjoyed the book a lot. The story was really fun and interesting. I very much liked Ginny and Jonas together, as well as their deep connection. I really enjoyed the vampire world and the secondary characters, too.

Overall, Reborn Yesterday was entertaining, intriguing, sweet, sexy and witty. I enjoyed seeing Ginny and Jonas's relationship unfold. I hope Ms. Bailey continues this world as a series and I look forward to whatever she comes up with next!

Excerpt:

“Will there be a million weeping women at your wake?” She tapped a finger to her lips. “There will be, I’m sure of it. The place will overflow with tears. I better make sure our flood insurance is up to date.”
As she commenced circling the table once more, her white lab coat scratched against the hem of her green plaid dress, which fell sensibly to her knees. It was cold in the funeral home, especially downstairs where P. Lynn Funeral Home’s guests were kept in preparation for their final goodbye, so she’d pulled on thick black stockings with a flower pattern before coming below to work the night shift.
Dressing with care was Ginny’s way of showing respect to the people she worked on—a fact her stepmother and reluctant business partner often scoffed over—but a T-shirt and jeans simply didn’t cut the mustard when she’d been entrusted with a loved one’s care. Ginny had designed and sewn her current ensemble in class and she definitely shouldn’t be wondering what Dreamboat here would think about the cut and fabric. Or if he’d notice she’d fitted it a touch tighter in the hip zone than usually made her comfortable.
“I need help.” She gathered her auburn hair over one shoulder. “You agree, don’t you? Finally, you’ve gotten peace and quiet from your multitude of admirers and here I come, trying to annoy you into reanimation so I can find out the color of your eyes. You must want to die all over again.”
Continuing her journey around the table, Ginny’s gaze ticked to the clock, reminding her she should have started working half an hour ago. Why was she so reluctant to begin? Where did she get off experiencing the weight of loss when she’d never crossed paths with this individual before?
“Anyway, I know what you’re thinking. She’s brought up my legion of female fans three times now. She must be jealous.” Ginny stopped beside Dreamboat and looked down at his regal brow, the masculinity of his jaw, and a horrible welling started in her chest. “I think you’d be right,” she whispered in a red-cheeked rush. “I think if you’d smiled at me even once on the subway a decade ago, I’d be out avenging your death right now. Isn’t that crazy?”
Just to be sure a terrible (wonderful) mistake hadn’t been made, Ginny lifted her right hand, letting two fingers hover over Dreamboat’s pulse. Her heart rate spiked at the prospect of touching him, which didn’t bode well for tonight’s task of filling his veins with formaldehyde. How could she give him the proper care he deserved if she couldn’t stop shaking?
A bracing breath passed between her lips.
She touched her fingers down to his pulse.
Nothing.
There had been no mistake.
He was thoroughly, devastatingly dead.
“I’m so sorry,” Ginny managed, her tears welling at such a rapid pace that one escaped, glopping heavily onto the man’s stone cold torso.
His eyes shot open.
His…eyes shot open?

Do people say they hate someone’s guts so that they can still fall stupidly, head-over-heels in love with the other parts?

Asking for a friend.

Taming Hollywood’s Baddest Boy, an all-new laugh-out-loud standalone romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Max Monroe, is available now!

Taming Hollywood_s Baddest Boy(final cover)

Okay, fine. I’m not asking for a friend.
I’m asking for me—and I’m begging you to tell me that the practice of falling in love with your should-be-enemy is common.
Please tell me that I’m not the only person to track down a guy—who used to be Hollywood’s baddest bad boy before he left LA for good—at his off-the-grid cabin in Alaska, show up unannounced, and find him gloriously naked.
This probably happens all the time…right?
Tell me I’m not alone in my stupidity—that I’m not the only woman who would fall for gorgeous blue eyes and a sexy devilish smirk, even if they belong to a broody, mysterious jerk.
Please. Please. Please. Tell me I’m not alone in this.
For the love of everything, I need all the supportive girl power I can get if I’m going to convince Luca Weaver to come back to Hollywood—otherwise known as the place he hates so much that he ghosted Oscar-level success and escaped to no-man’s-land for the last eight years just to avoid it.
Yeah, don’t worry—that smoke you’re smelling isn’t your house catching fire as you read this…it’s just my career and what was previously known as my heart going up in flames.
Gah. Is it just me, or am I totally, completely, and utterly screwed?

Review:

3.5 stars
***

This was a pretty good book, but not my favorite by Max Monroe. Taming Hollywood's Baddest Boy is a light romp through the Alaskan wilderness and from there to Hollywood. This is Billie and Luca's story. Billie is a production assistant to a big Hollywood producer. Luca is a former child star turned Hollywood actor bad boy, who blazed bright and burned out with a bad reputation. He left Hollywood years ago and moved the wilderness of Alaska. Billie wants to move up in her job and be mentored by her boss, over a brown noser that is her office competition. So she promises that she can get Luca to star in their upcoming film. But she doesn't know Luca at all. She only knows the name of the nearest small town in Alaska that is closest to his remote cabin. She must trek through the wilderness and kayak across a lake, but her hardest task will be convincing Luca to come back to Hollywood. Falling in love was not part of the plan and neither of their lives will be the same.

This was a fun story. I really liked the first half that was set in Alaska the most. There is an enemies to lovers vibe. Luca was gruff and not at all welcoming of Billie barging into his solitary life. Billie was plucky and determined to make the most of her time in Alaska to convince him to return to movie making. Luca wasn't really a bad boy in my eyes and his background wasn't described in enough detail to explain why he had that reputation. He actually seemed like a nice guy, even if he was grouchy at first towards Billie. But Luca has a planned week long hike and camping trip, which Billie, who is definitely a city girl and not an outdoorsman, invites herself on to get more time with him and convince him to read the movie screenplay. They definitely don't like each other for a while, but as they spend more time together and get to know each other, they begin to fall for each other.

I am not a big fan of the enemies to lovers trope, but I ended up liking Luca and Billie together a good bit. Especially their time together in Alaska. But then there is a month long separation and once they got back to Hollywood and the real world things get rocky. The two were not great a communicating. Billie was hurt and prickly towards Luca. The book goes from enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers again. I felt like that threw off the pacing and relationship momentum, which made it hard for me to feel the connection between the couple by the end of the book. I liked Luca and Billie as couple more in Alaska, but their separation and poor communication afterwards lost me a little bit. I also felt like the second half was a bit too light and fluffy, when I wished for more depth and emotion. The complications of real life, and Luca's return to a world that he struggled with before, were glossed over. Still, I did like the book in general. It's entertaining with some funny and cute moments. Luca's dog is a fun side character too. I really liked the Alaskan setting and the time the couple spent getting to know each other there. The story was interesting and kept my attention, too.

Overall, Taming Hollywood's Baddest Boy was an enjoyable read. I was happy that Billie and Luca got their HEA. They were a cute couple. I look forward to more from Max Monroe in the future!

Excerpt

Billie Naked lumberjacks are all the rage. Or is it that they’re full of rage? I’m not entirely sure, but I think maybe, just maybe, it’s a little bit of both. Standing beside a hot tub outside of a rustic Alaskan cabin is a bare-chested, handsome-as-hell lumberjack of a man, and he is as naked as the day he was born. “Who the fuck are you, and what the fuck are you doing here?” the big, burly man with a scruffy beard and piercing blue eyes asks me brusquely. And holy hell, what a question that is. I started this journey in a meeting in LA, promising my boss the world, continued it with a plane, a car, a hike and kayaking adventure in a cold, rainy Alaskan setting, and in a highly unanticipated twist, I’m ending it in what must be an issue of Playgirl magazine come to life. And boy oh boy is the centerfold pissed… Hello?” he questions harshly. “I said, who the hell are you?” As hard as it is, given his clothes-less state, I force myself to take a good, scrutinizing look at the rest of his face. I’m here for a reason, and with nothing more than a ramshackle convenience store owner named Earl’s vague instructions to go on, I can only hope that the here I’m at is the here I’ve spent days in a plane, car, and kayak looking for. In addition to a remarkably carved line on the inside of each hipbone, the angry man standing boldly above me has a strong jaw covered by a beard, a little scar above his right eye, miles of muscular, tanned skin, and messy, light-brown hair. I have to look a little closer to confirm my conclusion through the rolling waves of distrust and hatred coming off him, but when I focus hard enough, the star-quality glimmer in his eyes is undeniable. For the love of pancakes at a Sunday morning breakfast, it’s really him. Luca Weaver, Hollywood’s former baddest boy—the man I’ve nearly killed myself to find—is right in front of me, and he is naked. At my non-answer, his jaw turns to stone. “I asked you a question. Either answer it or get fucking moving.” I jolt at the rumble of his voice, but my feet do nothing to take me in any direction. I am rooted to the spot, utterly awed over the fact that I’ve actually managed something as impossible as finding Luca Weaver and all of my normal functions are rendered useless. He scowls, unimpressed with all the hard work I’ve put in—work that he obviously doesn’t know about. “You have five seconds before I come back out here with my shotgun.” “Uh…” I fumble, trying like hell to grasp the English language once again. I may be distracted, but on some level, I understand the importance of getting my shit together enough to at least prevent a shotgun from joining our little meet-and-greet. But my brain is bus-y. And slow. Because Luca Weaver looks damn good without any clothes. Eight years older since the last time he graced the covers of Hollywood gossip magazines, Luca is a man to whom time has been seriously kind. Either his genetics are just that good, or there’s some kind of sexy voodoo in the Alaskan water. I mean…his penis is right in front of me, and I can’t find a single thing wrong with it. It’s straight and veiny and perfectly pink. “What’s the matter with you? You have a death wish or something?” he spits at the statue formerly known as my body. “This is private property.” His words are serious and firm, and it seems that maybe I do have a dream that’s reminiscent of the movie Fargofingers crossed there are no wood chippers nearby. Because for as much as I try, I can’t stop looking at my new phallic friend, even to form a few simple words. But, come on. Luca Weaver’s freaking dick is right there! It’s not hard, but still, it’s…big—so big it’s not even a dick. It’s a Richard. Sir Richard. King Richard, really. Shit, I’m in the presence of penis royalty, and I suddenly have the urge to curtsy. He is a lumberjack fantasy come to life. Instantly, my brain starts thinking about pine-scented flannel and chopping wood and giving a blow job… Wait…what? Stop being a moron and speak words! “Uh…so…you’re…naked.” Oh god, those aren’t the right words! He glances down, mutters something to himself, snags a towel from a few feet away, and wraps it around his waist. “I didn’t invite you here,” he says, his voice gritty with irritation—and maybe, a little with disuse. Which would make sense. It’s taken me an entire season of Running Wild with Bear Grylls to get here. I can’t imagine he’s having book clubs and dinner parties and gabbing with his pals on the regular. Towel adjusted and glorious goods hidden from view, he studies me with frigid blue eyes and a glare worthy of a scorned woman. I shiver. “I’m only going to ask you one more time. What in the hell are you doing here?” I fiddle with the edges of my shirt as I finally find my vocal cords. “I’m Billie…Billie Harris.” And I am in way over my head.
