BLURB

A hot summer night is perfect for feeling your way in the dark…
For urban-legend hunter and television host Gabe Powers, it’s business—investigate the most notorious haunted places in Savannah. Then he meets his new sound engineer, a dewy Georgia peach who may just turn this gig into (im)pure pleasure. All it takes is one night for them to conjure floor-rattling, wall-banging moans…but they’re not from the ghosts.
Blame the rippling abs, the cocky swagger, the granite jawline, the whole muscle-bulging package, but Gabe is bringing out good-girl Lily Jameson’s dirty side. Damn her code-of-conduct contract—this isn’t just a molten-hot fling.
There’s just one kink in the relationship they’ve been avoiding: soon they’ll be going their separate ways. Lily’s home is in Savannah, and Gabe is a globe-trotter at heart. For them to be together, they’ll both have to upend their so-very-different worlds and face their fears in the process. And suddenly things don’t feel so Georgia peachy keen at all.

This collection is jam packed with baby making goodness. It features three, all-new stories from the duo behind Fiona Davenport.

Her Doctor's Baby by Fiona Davenport: She was hoping he could help her get pregnant, but she never expected it to be the old-fashioned way.

Her Neightbor's Baby by Rochelle Paige: She didn’t expect to join her friend's baby craze...until one wild night with her sexy neighbor.

Her Boss's Baby by Elle Christensen: It was hard to keep things professional when her boss offered perks like seeing him naked.

REVIEW:

3.75 stars
***

Baby Daddies is a fun collection of stories from the duo that writes as Fiona Davenport, Rochelle Paige and Elle Christensen. There is one story they wrote together and they each wrote a story on their own. The stories are all tied together as the characters as all friends. And of course, all of the couples get pregnant quickly. The stories are:

Her Doctor's Baby by Fiona Davenport: This story was about a woman who meets a man at a bar and has what she thinks is one a ONS, but the man wants more. She desperately wants a baby and is shocked to find her new fertility doctor is the man from the bar. This was a cute story! There are some funny, sweet, and sexy moments in this quick, easy read.

Her Neighbor's Baby by Rochelle Paige: This story was my favorite. This is the story of Melody and Trace. She meets him at the grocery store and then they discover they are next door apartment neighbors. They spend time falling for each other and getting to know each other before spending one night together, until circumstances keep them apart for a time and they discover they are expecting. I think the reason I liked this story the best was that, even though it is as short as the other stories, I learned more about the characters as they spent time together. I really liked Trace and Melody. They both had distinct personalities. They got to know each other and knew they wanted more without any denial or pushing away.

Her Boss's Baby by Elle Christensen: Another quick, cute story. This one features a receptionist at an OBGYN's office and the doctor who pursues her endlessly.

Overall, this was a fun anthology of entertaining stories. All of them are cute and fun, easy, enjoyable reads. The couples were all sweet and sexy together. Sometimes a quick, instalove surprise pregnancy just hits the spot!

EXCERPT

I opened my office door with my head down, still reading through my next patient’s chart.
“Ethan?”
My head flew up at the sound of the familiar voice and my eyes locked with gorgeous brown ones that I’d seen filled with hunger and fire the night before. Madison stared at me, open-mouthed, and her cheeks flushed.
My first reaction was pleasure at seeing her again, but then I remembered why I’d been acting like an asshole all day. Irritation quickly spread through my body. Then…I remembered what I do for a living and why Madison would be waiting for me in my office.
Oh, fuck no.
Over my dead fucking body.
My hands clenched, crumpling the sides of the folder I was holding. The sound broke through Madison’s frozen shock and drew her attention. When she raised her head to look at my face again, I narrowed my eyes and her blush deepened.
I knew the situation needed to be handled carefully, so I swallowed my rage at the thought of Madison carrying another man’s baby and strolled around my desk. I took a seat and placed her file open in front of me.
Raising a single brow, I trained my penetrating gaze on her face and calmly asked, “How can I help you, Ms. Carlyle?”
Confusion floated across her face and she fiddled with a lock of her midnight hair as her head canted to the side, making the tiny stud in her nose twinkle. “Um…I want to get pregnant,” she mumbled quietly.
I leaned back in my chair and crossed my arms. “You want me to get you pregnant,” I deadpanned.
Madison looked momentarily stunned and stared at me with her mouth slightly open. Then she shook her head and annoyance flickered in her expression before she cleared it. “I suppose that’s one way to look at it.”
I grinned and shuffled through the papers in front of me until I found the one I wanted. “Let’s see. Gynecological history.” I glanced up at Madison who was shifting uncomfortably in her chair.
I read on. “No history of STD. Well, that’s a relief.” I looked up and winked. “I’ve got a clean bill of health too, in case you were wondering.” Her cheeks pinkened but she didn’t say anything. I scanned down until I found the section I was looking for. “Ah, sexual history. Hmmm, this section is mostly blank.” I gave her an admonishing shake of my head. “Why don’t we go over that part now?”
Madison’s face was now beet red and she was twisting her hands nervously in her lap. I wasn’t in the least bit repentant that I was making her squirm. We both knew what was coming.
“Use of lubricants”—I smirked at her and winked again. Then bent over the form and scribbled as I spoke—“I’ll just put ‘unnecessary’.”
Madison rolled her eyes.
“Is your sex drive normal or depressed?” I tapped my chin with my index finger as I pretended to ponder the question. “The answer can change depending on the partner,” I explained. “So, I’ll just write down, extremely eager, according to her most recent lover.”
Madison scoffed, and I pinned her with a hard look, daring her to disagree. We both knew she’d wanted it as much as I had. After a moment, she sighed and gave me a tiny nod.
“History of sexual partners.” I cocked my head to the side and studied her as I asked, “How many notches are on your bed post, Ms. Carlyle?” I frowned, unsure if I really wanted to know the answer. The urge to hunt down every last one was strong. I wanted to beat them until they couldn’t remember what she looked like, or even her name.
She returned my intense stare. “How many are on yours?” she retorted.
“I’m not the one we’re discussing, Madison.” I tapped the paper in front of me. “Every patient has to complete the questionnaire.”
She pinched her lips and scrunched her nose as she thought, considering whether to answer. “Three,” she clipped in a business-like tone. “And before you ask, that’s including my most recent hook-up.”

Excerpt:

Podcast Series: The Day the Jerk Started Falling with Oliver Arsen

Dating is easy, mates. The women are plentiful, the opportunities abundant, and the fun endless. I’ve taken a woman night surfing—only to end up using the board and the motion of the water for another purpose—jetted over to New Zealand for a two-day holiday with another, and given more than one a fair tour of my bedroom. No effort overspent, I enjoyed every moment of it. I live hard and love harder, but it’s the second one that usually gets me in the most trouble. My affection tends to be short-lived—a quality I’ve been assured multiple times by the fairer sex isn’t becoming. Basically, according to the greater population, I’m the ultimate jerk. And if you grouped the lot of my past conquests together and set me ablaze, not one of them would piss on me to save my life. Taking the next step, having a long-term relationship, has never been my forte. Commitment is hard. The thought of a one-woman wank for the rest of my life has barely ever been conceivable, let alone possible, and I have to blame that for how badly it all went. When I look back at my behavior, there has to be a reason. A reason, friends, that when it came to Luciana Wright, I fucked it all up. I’ve been cursed out, stomped on, slapped. Had my balls volleyed, spat on, and punched. And even, on one occasion, nearly run over by a car with a madwoman behind the wheel. But I’ve never been through the brutal torture of love. Until Lucky. She’s an American bombshell and my sister’s best friend—a woman so wrong for me, it should be written in the waves. And she’s the reason we’re all here. The exact reason why I strong-armed the lovely, albeit slightly hard-ass, editor of this fantastic website to let an Aussie bloke like me prattle on about his love woes. [chuckles] Vanessa, if you’re listening, I’m certain your balls are bigger than just about every man out there. And trust me, that is a compliment. [chuckles again] Also, thank you for your hospitality via podcast permission. It is much appreciated. And you, dear listeners, you should know that for the next God only knows how many episodes of this podcast series, I’m going to spend my time talking directly to Lucky. If you’re not her, but you’d like to keep listening, I urge you to help me. Help me by hearing me out. Help me by relating to my story. Help me plead my case. And to really prepare yourself to get the whole tale from both sides, listen to her podcast first. [distinct pause] I had you in my grasp, Lucky, but now it’s fallen apart. And in order to explain how it happened—to explain myself—I feel like I have to go back to the day it all began. To the day the jerk started falling.

REVIEW:

3.5 stars

This book was a cute conclusion to the Jerk duet! In book one, we heard Lucky's side of the story on what happened during her relationship with Ollie, told through a series of podcasts. In this book, we hear Ollie's version of events through his own podcast. Beyond that, I won't go into too much detail about the story so I don't spoil anything. However, while I tried hard not to, this review may contain spoilers, so read at your own risk.

In book one, I liked Ollie, and I didn't really feel like he was that much of a jerk, but I did think he was a little mysterious and his actions weren't that clear. It was nice to hear what he had actually been doing with Lucky. After meeting her, he pretty quickly saw how awesome she was and began pursuing her. But he did it in a way that made it not look like he was pursuing her, because he thought that was what she needed based on a series of articles she wrote for her job to her ex-boyfriends. I liked Ollie even more after hearing everything he had done to make Lucky fall for him and how he much he adored her. I was happy that they got their act together, once their secrets were revealed to each other, and it all worked out for them in the end.

The format of the duet in which both Lucky and Ollie tell their stories through podcasts was fun and fresh. I really loved Lucky's voice in book one and could feel the chemistry between her and Ollie. However, in book two, I think that chemistry was somewhat lost. Ollie's retelling of events is not as descriptive of their time together, it is more of a telling of what he was doing "behind the scenes" between their times together. I think it would have helped to know Lucky's thoughts after each podcast episode to feel like she was more included in the book. We do get to see her impression of his version of events after she listens to the podcast but it is brief and near the end of the book.

My main complaint about the book is that Ollie and Lucky are separated the entire book until the very end. At that point, we get a very brief reunion with barely any details or discussion, no real time together, and not even a kiss. There is a few "bonus scenes" with some more time together, including physical times, but it felt a little "too little, too late". Still, I am glad the bonus scenes were included because they are cute, and without them I would have definitely felt short-changed. In the first book, I could feel the couple falling in love, but because they were separated in this book, that feeling didn't carry over for me. I just wanted more time together. There are sweet gestures and romantic words, but it doesn't make for much without seeing the couple together the entire book.

Now, don't get me wrong, I did enjoy this book. It was cute. The whole duet was cute. The story is cute. It was all cute and funny. Cute is not a bad thing. It isn't a bad book. It just wasn't entirely satisfied with the conclusion. It wasn't an emotional read and I didn't feel a strong connection to the couple. Still, this book was entertaining and enjoyable the way a cute movie is. I liked Lucky and Ollie. They were a fun couple. I am glad it all worked for them and they got their HEA. The podcast format was fun and fresh. I did enjoy this duet and I'm sure you will too. So, while this is not my favorite Max Monroe book/duet, I still liked it and enjoyed it and it's original concept. I still adore this writing duo and look forward to what they will come up with next!
