Thom is having a hellish week. Not only is he hunting a double agent, but his fiancĂ© dumped him, and thanks to his undercover life, she’s been kidnapped.

Turns out Thom is Operative Thom and he’s got more than a few secrets to share with Betty if he’s going to keep her alive. With both their lives on the line, their lackluster connection is suddenly replaced by an intense one. But in his line of work, feelings aren’t wanted or desired. Because feelings can be a lethal distraction.

This book was pretty good, but not my favorite by Kylie Scott. Lies is Thom and Betty's story. Betty and Thom have been in a relationship, dating and then engaged, for a year. But Betty is unhappy and thinks their relationship is stale. But when she decides to break up with him, and is in the process of leaving the house they share, the house explodes. She is kidnapped and she finds out that Thom is not who she thought he was. Thom is actually a spy. He saves Betty, but they must go on the run from his enemies in order to stay safe. Betty learns who Thom really is and that her relationship is nothing like she thought.

It took me a while to feel the love and chemistry between Thom and Betty. When the book begins they've been in a relationship for a year, but we don't get to see the beginning of the relationship and what made them like each other. Instead, we see that Betty is breaking up with him because she isn't happy with the mediocrity they are settling for. Thom is average in all aspects of life (and we find out later that is on purpose). But as the story unfolds, we see that nothing in their relationship was what she thought. Now Betty must deal with who Thom really is and they must find their way back to each other in the midst of running from danger.

I didn't feel a big connection to either character. Still, Betty seemed nice enough, but Thom had very little personality and came off cold. I liked the story in Lies, even though it has a plot device that I steer clear of. But, once that happened, I never got back the feeling of love. I couldn't really feel any of the emotions in the book, especially at the end. Still, this was not a bad book. It was entertaining, fast paced and cinematic. I enjoyed it in the way I would enjoy a movie- entertaining from a distance.

Overall, Lies was a fast paced, easy read with some action, suspense and a dash of romance. While it was not my favorite, I do still think it is worth reading.
