Blurb:

It’s an enchanting Christmas in the Highlands with some of your favorite Historical Romance authors!

It’s Christmas Eve 1747, and the Highlands are snowy. In the village of Calvine, north of Tay Forest, along a road that leads straight into Inverness, the only tavern in town is packed to the rafters with travelers.

Eight months after the disastrous defeat at Culloden, the people haven’t recovered, nor has the land, and it’s a bad winter. But inside the tavern known as Balthazar’s Inn, the magic that is Christmas is about to happen.

A blustery innkeeper, his sensitive daughter, and a cast of unique characters passing through the careworn tavern will bring you six captivating stories of reflection, joy, and enthrallment that is the very spirit of the holiday season.

Welcome to an enchanting limited-edition collection you won’t soon forget!

The Knight of Christmas Future by Kathryn Le Veque - When James de Lohr heads into the wilds of Scotland to discover what happened to his brother at the Battle of Culloden, his stay at Balthazar’s Tavern has an unexpected twist. On a night when angels walk the earth, James comes face to face with his very own guardian angel.

Fiona and the Three Wise Highlanders by Jennifer Ashley - Fiona McDonald is overjoyed to see Stuart Cameron alive and well after his imprisonment by the English, but her worries are not over. Stuart Cameron owes his safety to a pair of smugglers who have come to collect on their debt, and Stuart will need her help to win himself free.

One Knight’s Stand by Tanya Anne Crosby - Lady Elizabeth Easton finds herself suffering a terrible case of wedding nerves. She feigns illness, stopping to recover at a highland inn where she signs in as the “MacKinnon's bride.” Presumed dead at Culloden, Callum MacKinnon stops at the inn, intending to clean up before his return as the prodigal son. Imagine his surprise to find his “bride to be” has already procured them a room.

The Earl of Christmas Past by Kerrigan Bryne - A solstice blizzard drives Victorian photographer Vanessa Latimer to a crowded Highland Inn where the only available room is haunted by the ghost of a fallen warrior unwilling to give up his side of the bed.

Highland Hearts by Darcy Burke - When Tavish Crawford learns treasure hunter Elspeth Marshall is on the trail of his family’s missing legacy, he swears to prevent her at any cost. As nefarious forces threaten them both, he realizes he must not only protect the mystical sword, but the woman who has stolen his heart.

The Highlander Who Nearly Stole Christmas by Eliza Knight - For eight months, Thane Menzies has patiently waited to enact his revenge against the Campbells, and finally, he can’t resist the opportunity that’s presented itself: stealing their most precious treasure for his own—Lady Sarah.

From our families to yours, we wish you the very best of the holiday season!

Review:

3.5 stars

***

A Very Highland Christmas is a fun, holiday themed, historical romance anthology from some of the best authors of the genre. This was a pretty good anthology with enjoyable stories. This anthology's stories all take place after the battle of Culloden and the Jacobite rebellion. They each have scenes set in an inn in Scotland run by a quirky family of characters and many of the stories have a paranormal element. There are a several stories I really liked and a few that were just okay to me, so I am rating this 3.5 stars. In general, I liked this anthology and felt it was worth reading.

Here are my thoughts about the stories:

The Knight of Christmas Future by Kathryn Le Veque - 3.25 stars. This was an interesting story, but I found it dragged in parts. It felt a little lacking in chemistry and depth. Still, it was entertaining, in general.

Fiona and the Three Wise Highlanders by Jennifer Ashley - 3.25 stars. This story was an okay read. I thought it was interesting, but I didn't feel any chemistry or love. This was a long story and I felt like it was long enough to feel more of the emotions having built up, but I never felt it.

One Knight’s Stand by Tanya Anne Crosby - 3.25 stars. This story was only okay for me. It was interesting enough, but was nothing extra special. I didn't really feel the love between the couple. Still, it was not bad.

The Earl of Christmas Past by Kerrigan Byrne - 3.5-3.75 stars. This was my favorite of the stories in this anthology. I enjoyed this story. The couple had great chemistry. I wanted to read more about them.

Highland Hearts by Darcy Burke - 2 stars. This was my least favorite of the bunch. This story felt too long. There was too much paranormal stuff going on and not enough romance. There was also too many extra characters, which left the story feeling chaotic without enough focus on the love story. I didn't really enjoy this story.

The Highlander Who Nearly Stole Christmas by Eliza Knight - 3.5 stars. This was a quick, easy reading story. It was low angst, low heat and chemistry, but entertaining enough.

Overall, this was an enjoyable book with lots of Holiday cheer. There is a lot of variety of stories and authors in this anthology so there is something for everyone. It is definitely worth picking up!

Sneak Peek: Little Lies by H. Hunting + Excerpt!

"Helena Hunting takes your breath and your heart with equal force in this incredible, important novel. This book is a hug and a lesson, as well as a hell of a ride" -- Debra Anastasia, author

From New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting writing as H. Hunting, comes a beautifully written and emotional new adult romance, Little Lies, November 16th and we have the first peek inside this unforgettable romance.

Sneak Peek

Lavender finally looks my way. “You can go back to your bunnies, Kodiak. I don’t need a bodyguard or a babysitter.”
Clarke laughs and smirks at me. “You heard her. We’re good.” He slings his arm over her shoulder and pulls her into his side. I’m pretty sure her ass cheek is pressed up against his leg, and his fingers dangle perilously close to her boob.
My control slips. The frustration over not being able to have what I want is wearing me down. Everyone has an opinion on what’s good for me—how I have to manage all the impulses, how I can’t let the obsessions rule me the way they often do. But this is more than I can take. It’s been weeks and weeks of fighting the need of being an asshole because the alternative is to dive right back into that fixation—and if I do, I’m very worried it’s going to consume me. And her.

Synopsis

I don’t want you.
You mean nothing to me.
I never loved you.
I turned my words into swords.
And I cut her down.
Shoved the blade in and watched her fall.
I said I’d never hurt her, and I did.
Years later, I’m faced with all the little lies, the untruths, the false realities, the damage I inflicted, when all I wanted was to indulge my obsession.
Lavender Waters is the princess in the tower. Even her name is the thing fairy tales are made of.
I used to be the one who saved her.
Over and over again.
But I don’t want to save her anymore.
I just want to pretend the lies are still the truth.

New Release: Blacklisted by Jay Crownover + Review!

Blacklisted by Jay Crownover is now available! Check it out!

Blurb:

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men series comes an irresistible and suspenseful romance between a doctor who plays by the rules and the outlaw who breaks them in order to protect her.

Dr. Presley Baskin has always lived a quiet, calm life. Unfortunately, nothing about her life in Loveless, Texas---especially not the wild, rowdy, and impossibly close-knit Lawton family who've claimed her---is quiet or calm. Which is how loner Presley finds herself roped into patching up local bad boy Shot Caldwell against her better judgment. Presley wants nothing to do with the dangerous, brooding leader of the local outlaw motorcycle club. But when someone starts stalking her, Shot is the only person she trusts to help. Plus he owes her one...

Palmer 'Shot' Caldwell has always known his life isn't made for relationships. At least until shy, secretive, Presley reluctantly pulled a bullet out of him. He's oddly protective of the pretty doctor, so when she comes to him for help, hard-hearted Shot suddenly realizes there's nothing he wouldn't do to keep her safe.

Review:

3.5 stars
***

This was a pretty good book. Blacklisted was Shot and Presley's book. Presley is the half sister of the Lawton family, who they discovered existed in the other books in the series. Pres has been through the wringer. The woman, who she thought was her best friend, has ruined her life, may have had a hand in her parents' deaths, and is stalking her. Presley is tired of hiding and wants her life back, even if that means drawing out her stalker so that she can be arrested. Shot is the president of the local MC and a good friend (used to be friend with benefits) with Presley's half sister Cody. When Shot is shot one night by a MC enemy, Presley (a doctor and medical examiner) is called in to save his life. After that, the two have a connection and attraction. Shot wants to help protect her and the two explore their feelings for each, while threats come at Presley. There is action, suspense and romance while Presley and Shot fall for each other along the way.

I liked this book and I think it was my favorite of the series. I did want a bit more firsthand resolution. I felt like the climax was a bit too close to the end and the resolution was told/not shown and felt rushed. I wanted more. But I liked Shot and Presley and thought they were good together. Pres had been through so much, yet was still open and vulnerable. I was slightly bothered that Shot used to sleep with Cody. Even though it wasn't serious and they didn't love each other, it was slightly icky. I was curious to know more about Shot's MC and what they did that was so illegal. Overall, though, I did enjoy this book. I was happy that two lonely souls were able to get their HEA. I look forward to more from Ms. Crownover in the future!

Blog Tour: Who's the Boss? by Erin McCarthy + Excerpt & Review!

Who’s the Boss, an all-new, sizzling enemies-to-lovers workplace romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Erin McCarthy is available now!

Arrogant, charming and sexy as hell, Master chef Sean Kincaid is legendary both in the kitchen and in the bedroom. So of course it only took five minutes for him to get me overheated. My temper that is.

Because Sean Kincaid is my new boss. Who has strolled into my kitchen demanding I follow his rules. I don’t like taking orders from anyone but certainly not from a grumpy man who knows how to push all of my buttons.

And when a Best Chef competition pits the two of us against each other, it’s either going to be a sizzler--or a recipe for disaster.

This was a pretty good book. Who's the Boss is Isla and Sean's story. Sean is a chef and is the brother to Michael, the hero in Forty Day Fiancé . Isla is best friend's with Michael's wife, Felicia. Sean and Isla meet in the elevator on the way up to Michael and Felicia's baby shower. The elevator gets stuck and the couple bickers about it, but sparks fly and they end up kissing. A few months later, Isla is expecting a promotion to head chef at the restaurant she works at. Instead, Sean gets the job. The two are in for a bit of a roller coaster- disliking each other, but coming to see they misjudged the other person, and finding that they have great chemistry and have feelings for each other, which leads to love.

This book has a trope that isn't my favorite. This story is enemies to lovers and I don't love when a couple doesn't like each other at first meeting. But they hate doesn't last too long and the way it is written didn't hinder my enjoyment. I liked Isla and Sean together. Isla was a tough cookie and had trouble opening up, but she did eventually soften up for Sean. He had a manwhore past that was a turn off to me, but he wasn't interested in anyone else after he met Isla. He soon saw he was ready to settle down with her. Isla and Sean had good chemistry and emotion between them. I definitely felt their love. They were really cute together in the end. I thought the chef and cooking aspect was fun to read about, as well.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read! I liked Isla and Sean's story and was happy to see them together. They were definitely each other's person and deserved their HEA. I really enjoy this series and look forward to more from it and Ms. McCarthy!

Excerpt

The first time I met Sean Kincaid it was hate at first sight.
I didn’t know who he was at the time, but he annoyed me from the very first second he entered the same air space as me.
The feeling had clearly been mutual.
On my way to my friend Felicia’s engagement party, I was already in the elevator reaching for the button when a very tall, very attractive guy threw his arm up to stop the door from closing. The door bounced back open and he stepped in the elevator with a victorious smile on his face.
Then he stopped. Mid-smile, he just cut it off. Like once he’d taken in the view of me and made eye contact, he’d decided I no longer was worthy of his teeth being displayed.
It was so shockingly obvious that I had an immediate intense negative reaction in return. Boom. Insta-hate.
I had a reputation of being something of a cynic because I don’t think couples should jump into moving in together or say, get married after a couple of weeks. I believe in taking it slow and background checks, so sue me. Proceed with caution or get your heart shattered into a million pieces. Or worse, you wind up with a restraining order. But I wasn’t unfriendly. I liked people. I was open to giving everyone a shot. It was rare for me to dislike a guy on sight.
But that dismissive glance made me want to build a wall brick by brick between us so I didn’t have to look at his arrogant face.
“What floor?” I asked, to be polite, because even though I couldn’t shake that flicker of irritation, I wasn’t going to be a bitch.
“Four. I’m going to my brother’s engagement party.” He made a sound of disgust, shaking his head. “He’s marrying some psycho he met on a dating app a hot minute ago.”
We were going to the same party. Fabulous. I actually agreed with him that the engagement was too fast. Which it definitely was. Felicia and Michael had been dating all of three weeks. But that psycho was my best friend, and why was she the crazy one and his brother wasn’t when both of them had jumped into the engagement?
“I’m going to the same apartment,” I said, studiously staring at the numbers panel. Do not engage. Do not argue with a total stranger, I coached myself.
We were only on the second floor. Slowest. Elevator. Ever.
“Oh, you know Michael? Do you work with him? Can you talk him out of this ridiculous engagement?”
I had never met Michael (because as mentioned, Felicia and Michael had basically just met themselves) but it wasn’t reassuring that I would adore Felicia’s fiancé if he shared DNA with this guy standing next to me.
“No, I don’t work with Michael.” I turned and gave him a hard stare. “Felicia is one of my best friends. You know, the psycho marrying your brother.”
Understanding dawned, but he merely grinned. He didn’t look even remotely apologetic. “No kidding? Small world.”
“How does that make it a small world?” I asked, unable to contain myself. “There are eight units in this building, two on the first floor, and we’re on the elevator together. Odds are we’d be going to the same party.”
His eyebrows shot up. “It’s called small talk. A non sequitur.”
Was that mansplaining? My vow to be polite disintegrated. “Small world, small talk… what else in your world is small?” I asked, giving him a questioning stare.
He just gave a laugh. “Wouldn’t you like to know.”
“No. I wouldn’t.” Because I doubted he had a small anything, in spite of my jab.
Because unfortunately, he was actually a hot piece of man candy. I could admit that. He was tall, broad shouldered, with a strong jaw. He had light green eyes that gave off an icy coolness and cheekbones that women spent hours watching YouTube videos to try to achieve with contouring. He hadn’t shaved recently, but it wasn’t a full beard. Just a few days of caramel-colored stubble that I had no doubt most women would enjoy running their fingers through.
He was gorgeous and muscular and probably had a cock to back up all that confidence. Which made me dislike him even more.
“What do you think of this engagement?” he asked. “Seriously. No offense, but there has to be something wrong with your friend.”
“Are you serious?” Because again, Felicia was defective, but that made his brother normal? I wasn’t going to be a bitch on my own behalf, but if you mess with my friends, I will bring it. I opened my mouth to annihilate him, but got distracted when the elevator jerked to a sudden halt.
“Why are we stopping?” he asked, looking up.
The second-floor button was still lit up. “Maybe someone is going up from the second floor,” I said, because duh. That’s what elevators do. They stop at floors.
“But the doors aren’t opening.” He reached out and jammed his finger repeatedly into the “open door” button.
Fighting the urge to sigh, I just stood there and watched him pull back from the panel and run his hand through his hair.
“Nothing is happening.”
No, it wasn’t. I unfurled my scarf so it wasn’t covering my neck. It was December and I was bundled up from the commute from Brooklyn to SoHo. It was getting stuffy in the elevator. I had my purse over my shoulder and across my midsection so I didn’t have to carry it and I shifted so that I could unzip my winter coat.
Michael’s brother turned to me, panic clear on his face. “What the hell do we do?”
“It might start up again in a minute,” I said, not really that worried. I’d been on enough trains that had stopped and started again without any reason or explanation. I’d also been trapped in an elevator once about four years earlier and that had lasted three hours. Once we got past ten minutes, I would start to get concerned, but for now I wasn’t going to freak out. “Push the help button.”
That seemed an obvious course of action to me.
But he dismissed that idea. “No one is going to respond to that.”
Okay, Mr. Elevator Expert.
“I’ll push it, then.” I tried to shift around him, but he wasn’t moving. “Excuse me.” I was determined to keep my cool.
He wrinkled his nose and frowned down at me. “What? Why?”
“So I can push the button.”
The frown deepened. His mouth was sensual, with lips that probably could do amazing things to a woman’s inner thighs, after he stripped her naked.

4 stars

****

This was a good read! Love Song is a fun addition to the Stage Dive series. It is Adam and Jill's story. Adam is an up and coming rock star in the band that opens for Stage Dive. Jill is his ex-girlfriend. She broke up with Adam because he seemed to only focus on his music, instead of getting a job or letting her know how he felt about her. Soon after their breakup, Adam made it big in the music business and wrote an album of angry songs about her. When Jill receives a huge check in the mail from him and no explanation, she shows up to demand answers from him. The couple hashes out their problems and figures out why they didn't work out the first time. Along the way, they find they really still love each other and are meant to be together.

This was a quick, enjoyable read. I really liked Jill and Adam. I was glad they were able to get back together and find happiness even better than before with more communication. They were romantic and sweet. I did wonder how long the couple had been broken up. I also wanted a bit more remembering of the good times between them before they broke up to see why they would want to get back together. If this was a bit longer of a novella, those questions might could have been answered. Still, I did enjoy this book. I also enjoyed catching back up with the Stage Dive band member couples.

Overall, this was an entertaining book. I still really enjoy this series and look forward to more from Ms. Scott in the future!

Excerpt

“No,” said the bodyguard.
“But—”
“Miss, do you have any idea how many people try to get backstage by claiming they have some sort of relationship with Mr. Dillon?” Face a careful blank, the man in the slick black suit stared down at me. He had a point. I’d pushed through a crush of fans, getting my toes stomped on several times, along with taking an elbow to the kidney, just to talk to this guy. God only knew what it took to get near the star of the show.
“I’d imagine a lot,” I yelled back at him. Necessary given the volume of the music filling the space. “The difference here is I’m not lying.”
“But since everyone says that, you can see from my perspective how that’s not actually a point of difference.”
Adam Dillon, rock star extraordinaire, gyrated his slim denim-clad hips like an Alt-Rock Elvis on the nearby stage. He pouted and crooned about the woman who’d done him wrong. Me. That’s right, I was the big bad ex who’d broken him and woke him to the dangers of love. Or so the song said.
The song lied and then some.
According to the lyrics he was currently wailing, I’d ground his heart beneath my five-inch heels before blowing him a kiss goodbye. From memory, there’d been a lot of shouting, but no blowing of kisses. And having just kicked off the flats I wore for work, I’d been barefoot, my legs and back aching. No way had I been strutting around in stilettos. Home from a hard day at the hair salon, I’d returned to find Adam on the couch. The same place he’d been when I’d left for work approximately eleven hours earlier. The same place he’d been for what felt like months as I worked my ass off to pay the rent. That’s when all hell broke loose. However, it wasn’t the only issue that had caused our relationship to bomb. Nothing’s ever simple.
But back to the here and now. I grabbed the slip of paper out of my front pocket, holding it up for his perusal. “My name is Jill Schwartz. How many of those people claiming to know him have one of these?”
His eyes widened as he scanned the name on the check, before widening again at the amount. And fair enough too. I’d had a mild panic attack myself when it had first arrived. When Adam decided to make a statement, he didn’t bother with subtle. If only I could figure out what it all meant. If it meant anything at all, of course. And that question was what had brought me here tonight.

Cover Reveal: Submission Impossible by Lexi Blake

He loves the sweet life
She’s ready for the future
A twist they never saw coming

Submission Impossible, the first in the new Masters and Mercenaries: Reloaded series from New York Times bestselling author Lexi Blake is coming February 16th, 2021, and we have the irresistible cover!

He loves the sweet life

Greg Hutchins is reluctantly adulting these days. He’s settled in his job, recently bought his first house, and has a network of friends he can call family. But there’s something missing in his life, and he can’t quite put his finger on it. When he’s assigned to a case that involves investigating a biochemical company, he meets a woman who’s sweeter than any candy. Maybe she’s just the thing to make him feel complete.

She’s ready for the future

Noelle LaVigne has faced plenty of tragedy in her life, but she’s on the right path now. Between her new job and settling into a new city, she’s got no time for dating or relationships. She’s worked hard to get where she is, and no man is going to push her off track. Except the minute Hutch crosses her path she can’t seem to think about anything but the handsome security expert. He’s there to find a corporate spy, but late-night work sessions make her think they’ve both found something much more meaningful.

A twist they never saw coming

When the case becomes dangerous, both of their futures are on the line. And when the bullets start flying, they will have to learn to trust in each other if they hope to survive.
