New Release: On His Knees by Laura Kaye + Excerpt!

Decadent… Sensual… Forbidden…

Meet the Masters of Blasphemy…

About ON HIS KNEES (Blasphemy #5):

Getting on his knees makes him question everything…and want even more…

Another failed relationship has lawyer Jamie Fielding confronting the truth—he’ll never be satisfied with any woman until he admits what he needs…to submit and to be used—hard. When a friend invites him to the exclusive Blasphemy club, Jamie is stunned to find everything he ever wanted—in the fierce, ruthless hands of a man.

Psychiatrist Alex McGarry will play with anyone who craves his rough brand of domination, but what he really wants is to settle down. Which makes the submissive male he meets at his club a bad idea—the man might be hot as hell but he’s also new to everything Alex has to offer. Except that doesn’t keep them from coming together again and again, sating every one of their darkest desires.

Master Alex sets Jamie’s whole world on fire and makes him question everything—and that’s good. Because Alex won’t tolerate hiding what they have for long and he wants much more than just having Jamie on his knees...

    EXCERPT:

Master Alex heaved a breath and peered down at Jamie with a stern, narrowed gaze. “What am I going to do with you, my little masochist?” “Anything you want, Sir.” The response had come right from the gut. Out of his mouth before he’d even debated whether Alex had meant the question rhetorically. “Anything I want. Indeed.” He tilted his head. “Except you’re new to all of this. So I worry—” “No, please,” Jamie blurted out, his hands going to Alex’s knees. “Don’t worry. Don’t be easy. I want to try everything. Do everything. And I want to do it with you.” A storm erupted across Master Alex’s face and settled into those dark eyes, which raked downward to where Jamie still touched him. And then the next thing Jamie knew, Alex launched himself at him, grabbed him by the neck and shoulder, and took him down flat to his back on the floor. With one hand tight around Jamie’s throat and his knees pinning his shoulders and upper body, Master Alex loomed over him, his expression mean. “Let me make clear how this works, little boy. I make the decisions. I set the scene. You telling me what to do is called topping from the bottom. And I won’t have it. Do it again and it’ll earn you a red ass you won’t be able to sit on for days.” Jesus fucking Christ. Yes. Yes. Fucking yes. That was probably not the reaction he was supposed to have. And a little voice in the back of his head whispered that there was something seriously wrong with him for feeling sheer exhilaration instead of fear—to say nothing of the way his pulse throbbed in his rock-hard cock. And Jamie certainly didn’t want to have made Alex feel disrespected. But Jesus fucking yes. He swallowed hard, his throat having to work against the tight grip of Master Alex’s hand. “I’m sorry, Sir.” Master Alex barreled on. “You’re so goddamned sure you can handle this. You don’t even know. I’m going to use you and abuse you. I’m going to hurt you. And I’m going to get off on it.” Jamie’s cock jerked at the decadent words, and Jesus how the dark promise in them reached out to some secret, hidden place inside him. “I don’t know…but I want to.” “Why? Why are you here? What do you want out of this? Why the fuck do you want the pain I’m capable of causing?” That grip tightened, cutting off more of Jamie’s air. He grimaced and choked. “My…my whole life. I can’t—I haven’t been able to…feel. And I…want to finally feel something, Sir. I need it. And I want to please…you,” he managed. Master Alex leaned in, that handsome face so fucking harsh. “Oh, I’ll make you feel something, boy. I’ll light you up good.” God, if Alex was capable of turning his mind and body on so strongly with just two sentences, Jamie almost couldn’t imagine what it might feel like for the man to actually make good on the promises. What if I can’t handle it? But what if I can?

About ROUGH RIDE:

But really, Rosie has long been denying that, as she drifted away from her Bounty, she’s been falling in love with Everett “Snapper” Kavanagh, a Chaos brother. Snap is the biker-boy-next door with the snowy blue eyes, quiet confidence and sweet disposition who was supposed to keep her safe…and fell down on that job.

With Rosalie a casualty of an ongoing war, Snapper has to guide her to trust him, take a shot with him, build a them…

   EXCERPT:

My dad had been a biker. He was a nomad when it came to that kind of thing (or, really, any kind of thing). He accepted being tied down by his woman and his daughter only, not anything else. Not a job. Not a mortgage. Not a membership to a club. He hung with a lot of them, including Chaos (in fact, Hammer, sadly now deceased, but one of the founding members of Chaos, had been my father’s best friend). But he’d never hung with Bounty. “Don’t like the feel of them,” I’d heard him mutter years ago. “If you’re an outlaw, own the outlaw. If you’re not, own that. You can’t wanna be a Gypsy Joker. You either are or you aren’t. They wanna be. But they aren’t. That shit just ain’t right and it could get dangerous.” He’d been right. It got dangerous. I should have known. I should have followed my dad. Mom and me had done it all our lives, job to job, house to house, city to city. Why I stopped… Damn. I knew why I’d stopped. I’d wanted Shy; Shy, who reminded me of Dad. And when I couldn’t have him, I’d gone looking. I’d wanted what my mom had. I’d wanted that sweetness. That love. That devotion. I’d wanted the stability that just seeped down deep into your bones from all that no matter the job changing, the scenery changing, the amount of times you boxed up a house. Stability had nothing to do with income and locale. Stability was all in the heart.

About Kristen Ashley: Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning. Nothing's changed. Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Brooklynaire
by Sarina Bowen

About the book:

A sexy new standalone from USA Today bestseller Sarina Bowen. Book 4 in the Brooklyn Bruisers series.

You’d think a billion dollars, a professional hockey team and a six-bedroom mansion on the Promenade would satisfy a guy. You’d be wrong.

For seven years Rebecca has brightened my office with her wit and her smile. She manages both my hockey team and my sanity. I don’t know when I started waking in the night, craving her. All I know is that one whiff of her perfume ruins my concentration. And her laugh makes me hard.

When Rebecca gets hurt, I step in to help. It’s what friends do. But what friends don’t do is rip off each others’ clothes for a single, wild night together.

Now she’s avoiding me. She says we’re too different, and it can never happen again. So why can’t we keep our hands off each other?

My Review:

3.25- 3.5 stars
***

This was a pretty good book. This is Nate and Becca's story. Their romance has kind of been hinted at and built up over the first three books in the series. Nate's a tech billionaire and owner of the Brooklyn Bruisers NFL team. Becca was his assistant for many years from when his company was just a start up and now helps him run the Bruiser team. The two of them have been friends/co-workers and had feelings for each other, but neither of them have acted on them because of their working relationship. One day, Becca falls on the ice and gets a concussion. She never fully recovers and starts having terrible episodes of imbalance and headaches, which turns out to be a vestibular system problem. Nate decides to get the best doctors to help her recover, moves her into his house and keeps a very close eye on her so she can get well. As they spend more time together, it gets harder to not act on their feelings until they finally admit them to each other. They have a long emotional road until they both feel comfortable being in a relationship with each other, but they do get their HEA.

I had pretty big expectations for Nate and Becca's story. They were both intriguing characters. It was obvious in the other books that they both had feelings for each other, but never acted on them, and that they would be perfect together. I was a little disappointed that this book didn't quite live up to my expectations. I did really love Nate. He was adorable, although slightly clueless about relationships. I expected to love Becca too, but she her behavior made her only okay for me. I did like the story though and I enjoyed the writing. It was also fun to see glimpses of the past couples from the series and the other Bruisers players.

There were a few things that kept this book from going from "pretty good" to "love it" for me. Becca does a lot of pushing away. Her excuses for doing so were pretty flimsy to me. I was frustrated by her behavior. And Nate was pretty beta so he let Becca lead the relationship. Together they were very polite to each other, but were afraid to be open, express their feelings, and let their guard down. There was so much pushing away and not very many happy times together to balance it out. It took them until 88% for both of them to decide to be "all in" together. Overall, I just never fully felt the love between them. It never fully developed for me because of too much hesitation. There is also some OW drama that I didn't love either.

Overall, while I liked this book, some parts more than others. I felt like it missed the mark for me a bit. Still, I really enjoy this series and I look forward to more from the Bruisers and Ms. Bowen!

Excerpt:

I grab a towel off a waiting stack of them and toss it onto the edge. “You can sit and put your feet in.”
She’s wearing a short little knit dress that’s been making me crazy all evening, so it would be easy enough for her to strip off those stockings, sit on the towel, and drop both feet in.
And that’s what she does. She eases one stocking down over a smooth knee and tugs it off.
I don’t want to stand there staring like a middle-school boy. Okay, I do want to. But I don’t want to make her uncomfortable. So I go over to the sound system instead, and I set my phone on the speaker and cue up a really old playlist. One she’ll recognize.
When I turn around again, she’s seated on the towel, both legs hanging down into the churning water. “Ah. Wow.” She looks up at me, her eyes sparkling. “Nice place you got here.”
“Isn’t it?” I toe off my shoes and kick them to the side.
The first song comes on, and it’s a Macklemore tune that we used to play far too often in our first office. Rebecca laughs immediately. “You didn’t! I haven’t heard this playlist in forever. But I’ll bet I still know every transition. Lady Gaga is next.”
“She sure is.”
Rebecca kicks her feet, making a splash. “I have a little confession to make.”
“What’s that?” I loosen my tie and slide the knot out.
“Well…” She grins up at me. “I used to have a crush on you. Back in the early days.”
My hands freeze on the tie silk. “Get out of town. You did not.”
“No, I really did.” Her cheeks are pink. “That first year especially. But you were taken, and you were my boss. Those two things made it pretty easy to tamp down, when you’re a practical girl like me.”
I walk over and drop down beside her, my back to the water, though, because I’m still wearing trousers and socks. “So how does that work, exactly?”
“What?” She gives me a sidelong glance, but then looks away again and won’t meet my eyes.
“How do you stop wanting someone? I’m a practical person, but I don’t see how that makes it any easier. Nothing seems to mute the raging attraction I have for you.”
Her chin turns quickly toward me, and I seize the opportunity to kiss her. And it only takes one kiss—one slide of my lips over hers, and I’m on fire again.
We’re facing opposite directions, so it’s awkward as hell. But I don’t even care. I take greedy sip after greedy sip of her mouth, until she pulls back to stare at me. Her color is high and her eyes are bright and happy. “This is like Twister.”
“It’s better,” I correct. Lady Gaga comes on, just as Becca said she would. “Are we getting into this pool or what?”
Becca kicks a foot in the water. “I’m tempted. But I don’t have a bathing suit.”
“Oh, snap.”
She smiles and shakes her head. “Are you really getting in?”
“We don’t have to.” I’m never going to pressure her.
Her fingers trail across the surface of the bubbling water. “But this is an adventure, right?”
“Right.” I stand up and remove my socks. She’s watching me. And I can’t read her expression. “What?”
“Just wondering what else you’re going to take off.” She smiles.
“Come here.” The order rolls off my tongue.
But Rebecca doesn’t blink. She gets up and turns toward me, curiosity in her eyes.
“You tell me. What am I taking off?”
She puts two hands tentatively on my chest, and I make myself be patient. Everything I ever wanted is on the other side of this moment. I just need us to break through this awkwardness—the “will we or won’t we” tension.
Her fingers find the top button of my shirt. “I’m not getting in the water unless you are.”
That’s a compromise I can live with. I find my lower shirt buttons and work upwards, until we meet in the middle. She pushes the two halves of my shirt apart and runs a hand down my bare chest.
My inner caveman stands up and cheers.

Excerpt:

“All these bruises,” Smoke muses. “And not one of them caused by me.” He trails a hand up my arms and down my flat stomach. “Pity, but I still have time to leave my mark on you yet.” My entire body stiffens. I’m as rigid as a corpse. Smoke chuckles and I’m glad I’m facing away because his laugh is pure torture, causing his erection to vibrate against my folds which are aching for more contact. “You will be punished, hellion. You can be sure of that.” I look over my shoulder and meet his dark eyes which darken even further as his pupils dilate. His lingering gaze rakes me over from my feet to my breasts and back down to the space between my thighs. He licks his full bottom lip. My stomach flips. My will to fight him off doesn’t waiver, but my body isn’t getting the message. My core clenches again. I turn back around to face the tile, digging my teeth into my lower lip until I taste my own blood. His chest presses against my back, and his hardness pulses between my legs, rubbing against my inner thighs. He squirts some shampoo in his hand, working it into my hair. He tilts my head back and rinses my hair then slides his slick and soapy hand down my body. I’m breathing rapidly now. Short quick breaths I can’t control. There’s a deep rumble in his throat. His hand travels lower and lower on my stomach until it’s between my legs. He’s working his thumb over my swollen nub, sending sparks of need, pangs of pleasure, and a wave of self-hatred, surging within my battered body and bruised soul. “What…what are you doing?” I ask, seeing flashes of white hot lust behind my closed eyes. “More questions…” his voice a hearty amused rasp. His fingers circle my clit while he continues to rock his hard cock between my legs. The pressure building is so strong it borders on painful. Tears leak from my eyes. I’m so fucking mad at myself for being turned on. For Smoke being right. I’m so wet. He feels it. There’s no way he can’t feel it. He leans in close. I’m stone still except for the tremors gripping my body. He licks the tear off my cheek and groans. He dips the tip of his finger inside of me and I tighten around the intrusion. It’s a foreign sensation. Strange. It feels both wrong and right. Pleasurable and painful. “Your tight little pussy is weeping too. I wonder if its tears taste the same.” I look over my shoulder as he withdraws his finger and sucks it into his mouth. He groans. “Fear or desire. They both taste real fuckin’ good to me.” He places his hand back between my legs. When I try to squeeze my thighs together to keep him out he parts them with his knee on a grunt and begins circling my clit again. This time harder. Faster. I’m staying as still as I can, but when I feel something begin to happen inside my body. The sparks he ignited within me are all crashing together. I can’t hold back. My face scrunches as I try to fight the orgasm fighting its way out, but it’s no use. I can’t fight it. It’s too fucking strong. I’m so fucking close. I arch my back without thinking, pressing my ass against him, begging for more. For what I need to push me over the edge. Smoke hisses. “Oh, what I could do to this beautiful little pussy.” The pleasure builds and builds as he strokes me harder. Faster. I’m about to come all over his fingers when the feeling is lost. I spin around. Smoke is gone. I can’t see through the steam so I shut off the spray and wipe the water from my eyes only to see Smoke toweling off in front of the sink on the other side of the bathroom. The only proof I have of what just happened between us was real is his cock. Erect. Thick. Huge. The purplish swollen head bobs against his abs, jutting out over the top of the towel he wraps around his waist. “What…what just happened?” I stammer, leaning back against the wall for support. Smoke steps forward, and when I go to jerk back, he reaches out and pinches my nipple painfully hard. I yelp and leap back, slipping on the tile, falling on my ass, taking the shower curtain down with me. Smoke rips the curtain off my head and glares down at me with a triumphant grin on his evil beautiful face. “What just happened was called punishment and you got off easy. Next time I’ll split that tight pussy in two with my fucking cock.” He goes to leave but stops. “You want pain?” he asks. “I’ll give it to you. You want pleasure? Now that’s something you’re gonna have to earn.” He leaves, slamming the door behind him. I release a shaky exhale. I’d hoped the rest of my time with Smoke would be tolerable, but there’s no fucking way that’s going to happen. Not now. Not with my skin crawling with need. I’m losing my mind. About where I am. About what this is all about. About this beautiful horrible evil man. I feel like I’ve already been split in two. What Smoke is doing to me is far more than punishment. It's pure fucking torture.

Excerpt:

“You look beautiful like this.” Kayla didn’t respond because they were in the dungeon. She wasn’t sure of all the protocols Josh would use. Some Doms preferred their subs remain silent in the dungeon. A big hand touched her head, palm covering her scalp. “Naturally you have perfect form. Did you learn this at The Garden? I’ve heard of it, you know. It’s so exclusive even I can’t get in. I was jealous of Jared when he got a membership to Sanctum. I don’t like being left out.” He was an interesting combination of strong Dom and wayward boy. There were major gaps in his history, long periods of time that remained unaccounted for, and that couldn’t mean anything good. A good life tended to be documented carefully. What had happened to him between the time he left his foster home and the moment he showed up on Hollywood’s radar? What had happened that made him forever need to belong, even if it meant buying his way in? “You can talk, pet. Unless I give you specific instructions, I never mean to silence your voice.” “If we go to London or Dallas, I can get you into both,” she offered. “They’re wonderful clubs. Completely different experiences, but both amazing. The Doms in charge are private bastards.” “I belong to a club in Dallas.” His hand came off her head and his feet disappeared. “It’s very nice.” She knew the one he was talking about. “Well, then if we’re in Dallas, you can take me someplace new. I’ve heard The Club is lovely and that Julian Lodge knows how to treat his clients. It’s probably better than Ian Taggart. Ian treats everyone like we’re still in the Army and he’s the general in charge.” “Lodge is polite, but I still feel like I’m on the outside any place other than The Reef.” She heard the door to the closet open and took a long breath. “It’s good to have a place where you belong.” She couldn’t see what he was doing. It was part of the glorious mind fuck that got her adrenaline going. “You seem to belong a lot of places.” “I have a membership to The Garden and Sanctum, but only because of my work status. I feel weird in Sanctum. For a long time I was on the opposite side of Ian Taggart—well, he thought I was on the opposite side. No one was allowed to know my true identity except my handler and his boss. It’s the curse of the double agent. Sometimes you feel like no one believes you at all because you’ve become such a master at lying.” She was surprised that came out as easily as it had. Her former career wasn’t something she liked to talk about, but something about being in the dungeon always made her vulnerable. In many ways, the dungeon was the only place she did talk about what had happened to her. It was her confessional, the one place she could be vulnerable because she knew there would be absolution. “Do you still lie?” “I try not to. In my daily life, I don’t lie at all. I don’t care enough to lie. I can be too harsh at times because I gave all my fucks up a long time ago.” Except that I’ll lie to you. I’ll lie because my job and my friends are all I really care about anymore. Yeah, she didn’t say that part out loud. “I like honesty,” he said. “No, I require it. I can’t stand people blowing sunshine up my ass. I have far too much of that every day. It makes you wonder who to trust. It’s why I like Jared. I don’t think he’s smart enough to lie.” “That feels rough.” “I guess I gave away all my fucks, too. Eyes up.” She brought her eyes to meet his gaze and couldn’t help the shiver of desire that went through her body. He’d shed his shirt and every bit of dietary restraint showed in his perfectly cut body. Wearing nothing but a pair of low-slung jeans, he stared down at her. There was no way to miss the bulge in his denims. Joshua Hunt was built on long, lean lines, but that erection was anything but lean. It was a massive beast restrained by denim. He held a crop in his hand, looking every inch the dark, decadent Dom.

 Excerpt:

“Hello, Cal,” she said evenly. “How are you?” He looked her up and down, his dark blue eyes showing absolutely no expression. Those eyes assessed her, roaming every inch of her body in a decidedly clinical fashion. “I’ve been perfectly fine, Gabrielle. How have you been?” His hand was suddenly on her elbow. Her skin tingled where he touched her. He didn’t pull at her, merely squeezed gently, and she let him lead her. Yes, that was a force of habit, too, but perhaps her Irish friend was right. If they had any hopes of being comfortable around each other, they had to talk. They began walking slowly away from the pool. “I’m well.” That could have come out a little stronger. She sounded like a scared rabbit and that wasn’t at all the impression she wanted to make on Cal. “That’s nice.” Naturally, his voice sounded perfectly even. He could be negotiating a deal rather than talking to an old lover. “From the evil glances I’m getting from some very old friends, I would think I had tried to kill you.” “I’m sorry, what?” This wasn’t the way she’d expected their first meeting to go. She’d kind of avoided thinking about it. His jaw went tight. “I’m talking about all my friends looking at me like I’m some kind of criminal. I’ll admit I haven’t exactly been social lately, but I didn’t expect to walk into a party and find myself completely unwelcome. The only thing that’s changed is the status of our relationship, so I’m wondering what’s been said about me.” Damn Heather and her big mouth. It was supposed to be a secret. She smiled brightly and slipped her arm through Cal’s. Yes, she needed to handle this. She’d never intended to make anyone hate Cal. He simply hadn’t been able to love her. She had no interest in the two of them becoming a focus of gossip. If she seemed comfortable with her ex-lover, perhaps the other guests wouldn’t talk about them. She tried to look nonchalant. “I have no idea why. I haven’t seen any of these people since I left town ten months ago. Maybe it’s me they’re wary of.” “I doubt that, pet,” Cal said, all silky and smooth. His voice had a direct line to her soft parts. “Even my oldest friend seems to have turned on me. Greg barely spoke to me this evening. His friendliest words were to tell me to leave you alone. I swear, Gabrielle, if he didn’t need me to broker his deals, he might not talk to me at all. Now I wonder why that is.” Gaby flushed, guilt flooding her system. She truly hadn’t meant to hurt him, but she didn’t want to rehash the end of their relationship. She’d kept the secret this long. There was no reason he should know about it now. “I don’t know. I have never spoken to Greg about us.” “I’m sure Heather talks enough.” Gaby felt her heels sink into the grass as they left the deck. The evening grew darker as the lights from the torches got further away. The gazebo in the distance seemed to be Cal’s destination. She followed willingly. If they were going to talk, it was best to do it in private. “I can’t control Heather’s mouth. That’s supposed to be Greg’s job. He’s her husband, after all.” Cal helped her up the gazebo’s steps. He was always solicitous. It was one of the first things to attract her. He was a Dom of the first order. Gaby had been looking for someone like Callum since the day she realized there was a whole world out there for people like her. She’d gone through a couple of men who claimed to be Doms but really just used it as an excuse to be selfish. A real Dominant was someone like Cal, who always took care of her, even if he didn’t love her. “Well, as it was pointed out to me recently, a Dom only has as much control as his sub allows him.” His deep blue eyes were almost black in the moonlight and there were lines around them that hadn’t been there before. There was a weariness to his frame that called to her. She fought the urge to smooth down his tie and snuggle in his arms. He wasn’t hers to take care of anymore. He turned to her. “So what have you been up to since you left?” Her hand unconsciously went to her breast, thinking of the pain that centered there. “This and that.” He leaned back, staring at her as though trying to decide something. “I never could figure you out, Gabrielle. I didn’t know if you were simply content to be kept or if there was some ambition lurking under the placid surface.” The darkness was a welcome ally as she felt herself flush. If they’d been under even the soft lights of the party, he would have known how much that hurt. “Well, you weren’t interested in my ambitions.” He shrugged. “I just wondered what you did all day.” Her laugh was bitter and without an ounce of humor. “I ate bonbons and watched soaps. I counted the hours until you got home.” She turned away from him and looked out over the yard. In the distance, her friends mingled and laughed. She still seemed so far away from them. Maybe she would always seem far away now. Distance had given her some perspective, especially when it came to her old Dom. “You weren’t interested in who I was as a person, Callum. You were interested in who I was as a sub. My submissive self was docile and sweet. That was what mattered to you. I didn’t ask questions or make demands. It was a D/s relationship. It wasn’t a love affair.” She knew the difference now. His fingers ran across the exposed skin of her shoulders and she held on to the railing of the gazebo. The spaghetti straps that held her dress up offered little protection against his gentle assault. She shivered at the touch. “And you don’t want that anymore, do you? You don’t want a man to dominate you? You don’t want a man to take charge?” Oh, there were certainly parts of her that did. His hands ran down to her waist, settling on her hips. Push him away. Do it now or this is going to go poorly. You are not capable of handling this. But she’d waited too long. When he pressed his groin against her backside, she could feel the hard ridge of his erection, and she knew she wasn’t going to walk away. It was only sex. Sex with Callum had been mind-blowingly good. There wasn’t any reason she couldn’t enjoy it again as long as she held herself apart. It had been so long. And tomorrow morning, she would be on a flight back to her island, where she was surrounded by gorgeous men she couldn’t fuck because they were either an employee or a guest. She was starting over. Shouldn’t she honor her past with one last nice night? Yeah, her girl parts were super stupid and they were firmly in control. Cal pressed his hard dick against her and her brain no longer mattered. That dick had been the best she’d ever had and her whole body reacted. It was like her body knew what it had been through in the last ten months and was demanding payment. That big, hard dick was payment for all the pain. She could handle it. Hell, after what she’d been through, she could handle anything.

My Review:

4 stars
****

This was a good book. This is Callum and Gabrielle's story. Callum is a widower and a dom. Gabrielle was his submissive but she leaves him. She feels like she can't stay with him any longer because he won't admit he loves her. After almost a year of being apart, both miserable and heartbroken, the two run into each other at a party. Callum says some very hurtful things to Gabrielle and treats her badly. (view spoiler) When he finds out the truth, he feels really terrible and he knows that's why she pushed him away in the past. He decides to follow her to her new job where she runs an island hedonistic resort. Callum won't let Gabbie get away again. He is hell bent on proving he really does love her and will do anything to get her back.

This book was a very engrossing, emotional read. There are some very painful moments to read and both characters really hurt each other at times. It was not an easy or light read. This book has a trope that I don't often enjoy. Callum is a widower and has not seemed to get over his wife's death. Books with this theme don't always work for me, but in this case, I was satisfied with how it was dealt with. I never felt like Gabbie was the consolation prize. If anything, his first marriage was terrible. While I did really enjoy this book, but I wanted more resolution. The ending was kind of abrupt. I needed an epilogue or a later glimpse into the future, because I wanted to see what their future looked like. I did believe that they loved each other very much and would have a HEA. I just wanted more. Still, Away from Me was very good, sexy and angsty. I look forward to more from this series and Lexi Blake!
