Cover Reveal: Three Guilty Pleasures by Nikki Sloane

Three Guilty Pleasures by Nikki Sloane releases on DECEMBER 30th!
Have you experienced The Blindfold Club?

I didn’t expect to fall off the stage and land in the powerful arms of this gorgeous man. He’s a brutal warrior on the rugby field and a delicate artist with the cello, and the combination is irresistible. His music seduces. It inspires my dancing and demands my surrender. I gave up on my dream once, and I’ll need his help to resume the chase. He’s the only one who sees the real me, and when we take the stage together, I’m willing to give him everything. My submission. The dark secret I’ve been keeping. Even my tenuous heart. But will he want any of it once he knows the truth?

New Release: Jock Rule by Sara Ney + Review!

Kip Carmichael is no pretty boy.

He's a rough. Dirty. Giant. Hair so unruly, and a beard so thick, his friends on the team call him Sasquatch.

The first time Sasquatch lays eyes on Theodora "Teddy" Johnson across the keg at a party one night on Jock Row, she'd been relegated to the sidelines by her jock hungry "friends."

Week-after-week, he watches beautiful but bashful Teddy getting overshadowed, and overlooked. Sasquatch finally broad shoulders his way through the crowd, offering to to be her hairy godmother. But the minute their eyes meet? He's a goner.

Teaching her the RULES for winning a jock will be the easy part. Not falling in love with her is going to be a losing game.

REVIEW:

3.5 stars
***

This was a cute book! Jock Rule is Teddy and Kip's story. Teddy is a college student without much experience with guys and a bitchy best friend who strands her at parties. Se keeps getting dragged to parties at the Rugby team house and stranded by her friend. There she meets Kip, a member of the Rugby team and a loner who has sworn off women. Kip has a big bushy beard and a man bun. He observes Teddy at the parties and decides to help her become better at talking to guys by becoming her "hairy godmother". They become friends and it eventually develops into a relationship.

I enjoyed this book, although I felt it took a little too long to get going. At almost half way, very little had happened and I didn't see how a romance would unfold. I didn't feel any chemistry between Teddy and Kip for the first half of the book where they friend-zoned each other. Their physical relationship seemed to come out of nowhere. The book did feel pretty YAish in general. There was no sexy times until the last few pages. Teddy was a naive virgin who was pretty clueless about the opposite sex. I did like her, though, as well as Kip. I felt like they ended up being a good couple. And I did end up liking the book, despite it's slow start for me. There was no real deep emotions, but I was entertained and it was funny.

Overall, Jock Rule is not quite as good as the first book in the series, Jock Row, which I really liked. But, it is still a light, easy, fun read! I look forward to more from this series and Ms. Ney!

New Release: Across the Horizon by Aly Martinez + Review & Excerpt!

“Sometimes love happens when you least expect it.” That was what my husband’s mistress told me the day I found out about their affair.

I didn’t believe it until five minutes later when mouth-watering celebrity chef Tanner Reese walked up, tossed his arm around my shoulders, and told my cheating husband to take a hike. Tanner and I couldn’t have been more different. He spent his weekends at clubs, rubbing elbows with fellow A-listers. I spent mine in yoga pants with cheese boards and a glass of wine—or six. Our relationship shouldn’t have worked, but it did. That is until Tanner proved to me that even though love happens when you least expect it... So does heartbreak.

EXCERPT:

I shifted the phone to my other ear and asked her, “Did you just get in bed?” “If, by bed, you mean carrying a glass of wine out back to swing in the hammock, maybe.” I bit my bottom lip, my head falling back against the headrest. For most men, this would have been an innocuous statement. But for a hammock connoisseur like myself, this was the normal guy equivalent of her saying that she liked to give blowjobs during halftime. “You have a hammock out back?” There was a delay in her response, which was followed by a subtle kiss of her lips on what I assumed was a wine glass. “Don’t knock it until you try it. It’s one of the most underrated luxuries in outdoor furniture.” “Oh, I’m not knocking anything. Rope or quilted?” “Mayan, actually.” “Oh, sweet heavenly baby Jesus, she’s beautiful and knows her hammocks. I’ve never been so turned on in my life.” She giggled, pausing for another sip. “You know, if you leaked this hammock fetish to the press, you could probably increase demand by five million percent and singlehandedly lower the country’s unemployment rate.” Okay, so at some point during the day, she’d figured out who I was. But! Even with this knowledge, she was trying to avoid a date with me and was not elbow-deep in planning our televised wedding. This was a definite plus in my book. “Yeah, but then, when I talked to beautiful women like yourself, I’d have no idea if the hammock was your idea or a ploy to impress me.” “Jeez, that’s sad, Tanner,” she said, her sweet Southern accent like a wave rolling over my name. I’d meant it as a joke, but it was the absolute truth when it came to dating. Early on in my career, I’d done a rapid-fire interview about my personal life. One of the questions had been: What would your ideal woman order on the first date? Truth be told, the only thing I hoped my ideal woman would order was something she wanted. I didn’t factor into that. But I’d been on my last question in my last interview of the last day of a month-long press tour. My face had hurt from fake smiling, I’d been in desperate need of a shower, a smoke, and sleep, and my mind had been mush, so I’d prattled off the first thing that had come to mind: shrimp and grits. That one little answer somehow made it onto my Wiki page, and after that, every woman I’d taken out ordered shrimp and grits. One of them even had a shellfish allergy and nearly ended up in the hospital. And this insanity was not limited to women outside of the spotlight. I’d once gone on a date with America’s princess of pop, Levee Williams. We’d hit it off at a charity event. For one of the most famous women in the world, she was a surprisingly nice girl, gorgeous, and funny as all get out. But the first time I took her out? One guess what she ordered. I was at the end of my rope with dating and lost my freaking mind before storming out like an asshole. That night, as I was reporting shrimp and fucking grits as an error to Wiki, I noticed that her page listed it as her favorite food. I’d never had the balls to contact her again, and I once hid behind a palm tree on Rodeo Drive when I heard the clamoring of paparazzi calling her name. But that’s neither here nor there. In short, while finding a woman was all too easy, dating was hard. But that wasn’t about to stop me from trying with Rita.

REVIEW:

3.5 stars
***

This was a pretty good book. Across the Horizon is Tanner's (brother of Porter in the Darkest Sunrise duet) and Rita's book. Tanner is a very famous, hot chef with his own cooking show on tv. He is getting tired of the fame, crazy exes, and women only wanting him for his money and celebrity. Rita, who is friends with Charlotte who is dating Porter, just found out her doctor husband cheated on her and is in the midst of a big breakup. She meets Tanner at a charity function she helped plan for work that he is helping cater. The sparks fly between them. But it is terrible timing for a new relationship for them both. Still, Tanner is determined to pursue her, because he sees that Rita treats him like a normal guy and he loves it. Things get very complicated because of drama from their exes and their own insecurities and fears, but they manage to work it all out and fall in love.

I really liked Tanner and Rita, but their timing really sucked for both of them. This book started off more light, sweet and funny, despite the circumstances, but as it went along it got more depressing and the characters more bogged down with insecurities. There is a separation that stopped the momentum and relationship progression and I never felt like it got it back or felt the love again. Still, I did like the book. The story is interesting and pretty dramatic. I liked the couple, as well as the side characters, and felt they were a good match.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, even if it is not my favorite by Ms. Martinez. I look forward to what she comes up with next!

New release: My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren + Review!

 My Favorite Half-night Stand
by Christina Lauren

By the New York Times bestselling author who “hilariously depicts modern dating” (Us Weekly), My Favorite Half-Night Standis a laugh-out-loud romp through online dating and its many, many fails.

Millie Morris has always been one of the guys. A UC Santa Barbara professor, she’s a female-serial-killer expert who’s quick with a deflection joke and terrible at getting personal. And she, just like her four best guy friends and fellow professors, is perma-single.

So when a routine university function turns into a black tie gala, Mille and her circle make a pact that they’ll join an online dating service to find plus-ones for the event. There’s only one hitch: after making the pact, Millie and one of the guys, Reid Campbell, secretly spend the sexiest half-night of their lives together, but mutually decide the friendship would be better off strictly platonic.

But online dating isn’t for the faint of heart. While the guys are inundated with quality matches and potential dates, Millie’s first profile attempt garners nothing but dick pics and creepers. Enter “Catherine”—Millie’s fictional profile persona, in whose make-believe shoes she can be more vulnerable than she’s ever been in person. Soon “Catherine” and Reid strike up a digital pen-pal-ship...but Millie can’t resist temptation in real life, either. Soon, Millie will have to face her worst fear—intimacy—or risk losing her best friend, forever.

Perfect for fans of Roxanne and She’s the Man, Christina Lauren’s latest romantic comedy is full of mistaken identities, hijinks, and a classic love story with a modern twist. Funny and fresh, you’ll want to swipe right on My Favorite Half-Night Stand.

Review:

3.5-3.75 stars
***

This was a pretty good book. My favorite half-night stand is Reid and Millie's book. Millie and Reid are friends and colleagues, both professors at a university. They are part of a friend group with 3 other male professors that spend all their time together, with Millie being just another one of the guys. They are all single, so the friends decide to join an online dating website to find dates to a faculty party. One night, while drunk, Millie makes a move on Reid and they have a "half-night stand", where they hook up, but don't spend the night together. They both agree it was a one-time thing, and it came out of nowhere seemingly, as they had never thought of each other romantically before. They both enter the world of online dating, and Millie begins mistakenly "catfishing" Reid. Things get really complicated between them, fast. But they manage to work it all out between them and fall for each other.

As someone who didn't love the last few Christina Lauren books, I did feel this book was an improvement. I do think it's worth reading. It is a good story, has emotion and complicated characters with depth, as well as good writing. It is not a bad book at all. For me, though, what's missing was chemistry. I wanted to feel more of a spark between Reid and Millie. I also wanted to see them actually together in a relationship before the epilogue. I did like Reid and Millie. They're likable, easy to identify with characters. I do think that when the big conflict came to light, Reid was a bit rougher on Millie than I wanted. I felt pretty bad for her. I thought if he loved her and understood why she was the way she was, he should be a little more understanding. Still, I did enjoy the book. It had some serious moments, some emotional ones, and some lighter, funny ones.

Overall, I do think this is a book worth reading. I just didn't totally fall in love with it. Still, you should read it for yourself and see what you think. In the meantime, I will just keep holding out hope that Christina Lauren will write another sexy couple with good chemistry that I can really truly love. I need another Will and Hannah.

EXCERPT:

“How does that make you feel, Gray?” Felix Day was in full-on shrink mode as we sat in his office, the late afternoon light illuminating the soothing interior. “It makes me feel like murdering Trent.” Gray was using his calmest tone. Well, his most sarcastic tone, but it was also calm. Mostly. He wasn’t pleased with his current occupation. “And Trent, how does that make you feel?” Felix asked. “It makes me feel like I’m wasting my day pass, man.” There was nothing calm about Trent. He was perfectly exasperated. It was obvious the day had not gone according to plan. But then what had he expected? Probably not thruples therapy. As for me, I just wanted my guys to get along. It had been a full six months since my wolf guy had killed my demon guy’s brother. Now that sounds worse than it really is, a fact I’ve been trying my damnedest to get Gray—the demon hottie—to see. Gray’s brother had gone by many names on the Earth plane, but Stewart had been his most frequent alias. On the demonic plane, he’d been known as Nemcox and had been totally evil. He’d learned a secret about the king’s son… I’m moving too fast. Like I said, it’s been a while. I should catch you up. I’m Kelsey Owens. I’m this weird thing that happens when a lone wolf forgets to wear a condom and humps a human lady. I’m what’s known as a Hunter. It basically means that I’m pretty strong and have a lot of werewolf senses, but I can’t actually turn into a wolf, though I do have a demon arm—and that’s another story entirely. I work for the King of all Vampire, who also happens to be the king of the supernatural world. I’m his Nex Apparatus. It’s kind of like a combo sheriff and assassin, with a dash of therapist thrown in. I’m involved with a gorgeous half-demon named Grayson Sloan and an insanely hot alpha wolf named Trent Wilcox. We had a few super-sexy encounters together and then came the aforementioned murder. But I didn’t see why that had to mean the end of our threesome. After all, the king and his wife and partner had gone through a ton worse and still got it on all the time, and in fairly public places. I might be horny. Super horny. And my bio clock had started ticking. I wanted some baby making, and I couldn’t do that while my men were fighting, hence the therapy. “You’re here on sufferance, wolf.” Gray was using his super-superior voice, the one he used when he knew a suspect was guilty and he could prove it. In the last few months, he’d gone back to his original job. Gray is a Texas Ranger. Not the baseball-playing kind. He’s a cop of the highest order and he works in the Ranger’s specialized crimes unit. By special they mean weird shit no one else wants to work. Basically he deals with supernatural crimes. We’re kind of coworkers when you think about it. It was his other job that worried me. Gray is also a dark prophet. Every now and then his eyes go midnight black and he starts to speak in what I like to call prophet rap. It’s usually a jumble of crap that doesn’t actually make any sense at all until you’re on the other side of it, but it impresses the other demons. Especially Gray’s dad, and he’s the one I worried about. “I thought I was here to discuss potential parole,” Trent shot back with a shake of his head. “I thought you were willing to talk to me and find a way to work this out.” Trent used to be the head of the king’s security. He had a great career, benefits, job security. Then he met a girl. Yeah, I kind of wrecked that for him. Again, hence the therapy. “This? You refer to the murder of my brother as this? I don’t want to work this out with you,” Gray replied, sitting back. “You misunderstand me, wolf. There is no parole. The king is high if he thinks my father will allow that to happen. The only reason you weren’t killed in the first place was to keep the peace. You will never be allowed your former place. And I have my reasons for helping Kelsey see you on a regular basis. I want Kelsey to fuck you out of her system so we can go back to normal.” We were far from normal. “I don’t think that’s going to happen,” Felix said, taking in the three of us with an academic air. “Kelsey is dual natured, as you know. Unlike most were creatures, she’s not fully integrated. I know werewolves like to talk about their ‘wolf’ as being something that lives inside them, but that’s a euphemism. For Kelsey the ‘she-wolf’ part of her soul is separate, and she has different needs from the human portion.” Not exactly. Honestly, the longer I live and accept the fact that I’ve got this gift, the more the she-wolf and I get along. I totally don’t lose control and try to kill people anymore. She-wolf and I kill people with purpose now, and we’re in total agreement on what we needed and that was sex. “I’m perfectly willing to take care of all her needs.” Trent got that smirk on his face, the alpha wolf smirk. I shouldn’t find it sexy, but I do. “How about you go and talk to your father about this bullshit punishment and I’ll spend the few hours I have here in bed with our woman.” I was actually all on board with that plan with the exception of losing Gray. I’d had a taste of symmetrical fucking and I wanted more. Not that I didn’t enjoy my sexy times with each of them, but there’s something about having four hands on my body that does it for me.

REVIEW:

4 stars

This book is a great addition to the Hunter series. Outcast contines Kelsey's story and her menage relationship with Trent, a werewolf, and Gray, a half-demon. I can't go too much into the story without spoiling anything, but I will say that in this book, Kelsey continues to struggle to get her relationship on track and happy, while juggling her duties as the Nex Apparatus.

I love Kelsey, Trent and Gray together. They have all been through so much and they deserve to be happy. I do wish there would be more happy times between them, where at least their relationship is secure and they can fight outside forces as a unit. There is still some struggle in this book between them. Still, this was an enjoyable addition to their story. I loved the side characters, especially Kelsey's strong friendship with Lee. There were a few slow moving parts, but overall, I really enjoyed this book.

This series is one of my favorite PNR series. The world building is great. The story is intricate and interesting. I love the complex characters and the romance too. The next book in the series looks to be a doozie. I can't wait for more from the Hunters series and Ms. Blake!

How to make a reluctant fiancĂ©e happy:

 *Buy her a huge-ass diamond ring. ✔
 *Throw a balls-out engagement party. ✔
*Make the wedding a quickie. ✔

Every girl dreams of getting married. Right? Not Paris Elizabeth Hollis Fairchild. And especially not to me. She says this party boy is anything but husband material. Cocky. Arrogant. Presumptuous. And even manipulative. Hey, those are all perfectly acceptable traits. When it turns out she doesn't have a choice, the arranged nuptials go off without a hitch. But that doesn't mean we're riding off into the sunset anytime soon. With both of our failing wineries merging and a contract that states only one family business can survive, we're spending a lot of time negotiating. And not the kind I prefer. The truth is it's just a matter of who will come out on top, her or me? I wish I meant that literally. In the meantime, she demands separate bedrooms. I insist we break in our new bed. She says she hates me. I think it's love. She believes our marriage won't last. I know it will. She tells me not to bother popping the champagne. I disagree. In fact, I think it's time to get this party started.

It's the birthday I'd been expecting...

 Turn 27.
 Move back to my hometown.
 Inherit my grandfather's winery.
Marry my old high school sweetheart.

Wait, what? We hate each other's guts. But I only have thirty days to turn my company around or lose it forever, so I don't have time to worry about that. Besides, she's days away from declaring bankruptcy, and merging with me is her last chance. There's a big problem, though--only one winery can survive. Before we even entertain a little game of survival of the fittest, I have to put a ring on her finger. Easy. Right? Not so much. Paris Elizabeth Hollis Fairchild isn't interested in my plan, and it really pisses me off. Apparently, she doesn't know me as well as she thinks. Doesn't understand I've changed. Doesn't realize her rejection only spurs me on. Proving her wrong becomes my mission, a mission I won't fail. There's a thin line between love and hate...and she's about to find out just how fine it is. Paris was my first And I'm going to make sure I'm her last. Just wait and see.
