Blog Tour: Bond of Passion by Larissa Ione + Review & Excerpt!

She’s back from the dead and looking for vengeance.

Bond of Passion, an enthralling second-chance paranormal romance novella in the Demonica series from New York Times bestselling author Larissa Ione is out now!

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Larissa Ione returns with a new story in her Demonica series…

He was an assassin. She was his lover.
And his victim.
Now, years later, she’s back from the dead and looking for vengeance.

Thanks to an unexpected and fortuitous disaster, Tavin’s contract with the underworld’s Assassin Guild was broken decades early. But instead of freedom, he’s suffocated by guilt and regret. In many ways, he’s more trapped than he was before. In an attempt to numb his pain, he works at Underworld General Hospital, saving people instead of killing them. But nothing can diminish the memory of assassinating the female he loved…not even the knowledge that he’d done it to spare her an even worse fate.

Deja remembers all of her dozens of former lives, and she knows that she only found love in one of them…until her lover murdered her. As a soul locked inside the nightmarish boundaries of demon hell, she stewed in hatred until a single, fateful event gave her one more shot at life.
And at revenge.

Now another specter from the past is threatening them both. Can two damaged people overcome their history to save not only themselves, but a second chance at love?

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

“Hey.” Lore jabbed him in the ribs with his elbow. “You’re being eye-fucked. Check your two o’clock.”

Tavin glanced over at the buffet table, where two of the hospital’s cafeteria workers were volunteering. Evi, a curvy brunette lion shifter in a scarlet bikini, gave him a sultry smile and a flirty wave. Next to her, Churla, a fangy, pointy-eared succubus who looked too much like a Neethul for comfort, flicked her forked tongue at him in a way that made it clear what she wanted to use it for.

He nodded in acknowledgment but didn’t offer any encouragement. He’d hooked up with Evi a couple of times, but he wasn’t in the mood right now. As for Churla? Yeah, no. Her platinum hair and pale, iridescent skin reminded him of someone he didn’t deserve to think about.

Tavin turned back to his friend. “It still freaks me out to see Tier-Five demons working at UG.”

“That’s kind of the assassin calling the executioner a killer, isn’t it?” At Tavin’s reluctant shrug, Lore continued. “Why are you working there, anyway? You used to kill people for a living.”

“So did you,” Tavin pointed out. “But now you’re working in the same hospital I am.”

“Yeah, but I work in the morgue. The people I have to deal with are mostly dead.”

Tavin grinned. “Only mostly dead? Not all the way dead?”

“What?”

“The Princess Bride?” Tavin prompted. “It’s a reference. Your dead people are only mostly dead?” When Lore stared at him as if he’d lost his mind, he shook his head. “The movie is a classic, man. Watch it sometime.”

“You sound like Wraith,” Lore said flatly. “Always talking about movies. And you didn’t answer the question. After the Horsemen destroyed the slave and assassin bonds, you were free. You could have done anything. Why did you decide to save lives?”

Tavin watched a hellhound block one of the kids from going into the water. When he tried to run around the hound, the big beast picked up the boy by the seat of his swim trunks and plopped him down near a group of adults. Damn. They were great babysitters.

When Tavin looked back at Lore, he saw the guy was waiting for an answer. “I decided to save lives because I have red in my ledger.”

“For real? You keep a ledger?”

“Dude, seriously? The Avengers? Black Widow? Watch a movie someday.”

“I have a kid. I don’t have time for movies that aren’t animated.”

As always, I love Larissa Ione's Demonica world and this book was a good addition to the series. Bond of Passion is Deja/Gristlen and Tavin's story. A demon, Tavin was forced to work off a debt many years ago as an assassin. He met Gristlen when she was one of his assigned targets. They fell for each other quickly, but, while Tavin tried to get out of his assignment, he eventually was forced to kill her in order to save her from worse fates. Now, all those who Tavin killed have had their soul's brought back to life with the reopening of Sheoul-gra. Tavin is now working to save lives at the Underworld General hospital. Gristlen has come back to life in a new body and is bent on revenge against Tavin. She gets a job as a nurse at the hospital, posing as "Deja", in an effort to get close to Tavin and get her revenge on him. But there is more to what happened between them than either of them know. When they are together, they feel like they are meant to be.. Can they work through their past to make a future together?

I was happy to see a new book from Ms. Ione as I love this series and the world she created. But I am not a huge fan of enemies to lovers where the hate is so strong between the couple. I understood Gristlen's need for revenge, but I really liked Tavin and felt sorry for him. I also wanted more resolution after he found out who Deja was. Still, the story was good and I liked Tavin. Overall this wasn't my favorite book in the series, but I am looking forward to more from Ms. Ione and the Demonica world in the future.

New Release: Levi by Brynne Asher + Review!

Levi by Brynne Asher is now available!

From USA Today Bestselling Author Brynne Asher…
Life and death … they have a way of tainting fairy tales in the ugliest way.

You know the sugary-sweet romances where the new girl moves to a small town, falls in love with the most popular guy in school, and they live happily ever after?
I wish my story were that simple.
Levi Hollingsworth is the most popular guy in school. He’s stoic, mysterious, and aloof. A man among boys. He claims attention wherever he goes, whether he wants it or not. And he doesn’t want it.
The broody grump wants nothing to do with anyone. Especially me—the new girl who’s failing chemistry.
And Levi is my new tutor.
Little does he know, my grades are the least of my problems. Being forced to move to Virginia has everything to do with dirty politics, sex scandals, and cold cases.
I already thought my life was complicated when I landed in the commonwealth and was forced to live with my horrid grandmother.
But when the guy wants the girl, he’ll do everything to make her his.
I just hope I don’t take Levi down with me.

****

This was a really good book. Levi is a standalone book set in the world of the Killers series. This is Levi and Carissa's story. I didn't read the blurb very carefully so, while I knew this was a second generation book with Levi being the son of Asa (the hero in Gifts), I didn't realize he was still in high school while the book takes place. But the characters felt mature and there was not a lot of silly, immature high school drama.

After her politician father gets exposed in a scandal, Carissa moved to town with her twin brother to stay with their Grandmother until the scandal is resolved. She starts at the local high school as a junior, but her grades have plummeted because of her family drama. A senior, Levi is a shoe-in for Valedictorian, a star lacrosse player, and a well-liked, popular guy with a loner side. He had a bad disaster of a relationship in the past so he has kept to himself after that and focused on grades. When Levi is assigned to tutor Carissa to get her grades up, sparks fly between them. They begin a relationship and together, with an unlikely group of friends, they delve into the mystery of Carissa's family's political scandal and past.

This was a good story with great characters. I liked Carissa and Levi a lot. They were a good match and were definitely "it" for each other despite their young ages. I enjoyed their slow-ish burn romance which was sweet and sexy with the angst being outside of that relationship. I liked the mystery and suspense storyline too. Also, I enjoyed Carissa's brother and their group of friends. I would love to see them all grow a little older and get books of their own.

Overall, Levi was a good, easy, entertaining read. It has the same feel of the books in the Killers series with good suspense and sweet, spicy romance. I look forward to seeing where Ms. Asher goes with this and what she comes up with next!

New Release: A Little Too Late by Sarina Bowen + Review!

A Little Too Late by Sarina Bowen is now available!

Sarina has teamed up again with Rebecca Yarros and Devney Perry to bring you a trilogy of standalones in the Madigan Mountain series.

Blurb:

How to behave when the guy who broke your heart two thousand miles away turns up in your office:

One: Don’t drop your lucky coffee cup in shock, even though it’s been ten years.

Two: Don’t get defensive when he asks how you ended up working his family’s ski mountain… and why you kept it a secret.

Three: Give him the worst room in the resort. He deserves it for suddenly waltzing back in like he owns the place. (Which he kind of does.)

Four, five, six, seven, eight and nine: Do not kiss him in the hot tub.

Ten: Try to keep your heart intact after you break all of your rules.

Because Reed is leaving again. Hate can't turn back into love. And it’s a little too late…

Review:
4 stars****
This was a really good book! Folk Around and Find Out is the second book in the Good Folk series and is Hank Weller and Charlotte's book. Hank is a good (but misunderstood) and at-times-grumpy guy and the owner of The Pink Pony, a strip club in Green Valley. Charlotte is a busy, single mom of 4 kids, working hard and trying to do it all on her own. They have mutual friends in the Winstons and they live in the same small town so they have crossed paths, but both have misjudged each other over the years. When Charlotte's cousin goes missing, she decides to go undercover and get a job at her cousin's last place of work, Hank's strip club. But Hank is not hiring her for that job, no way. Still, once he sees her desperation, he decides to hire Charlotte as a bookkeeper there. Charlotte and Hank have a serious attraction, but must get over their past misconceptions about each other and their own personal relationship hang-ups. Their romance is sweet, sexy and has an everyday, easy-to-identify-with feel.

I enjoyed this story a lot. Hank and Charlotte were great together. I was happy they both found each other. Their everyday problems, with kids and normal life, were very easy to identify with. Charlotte's four kids were cute, well-written and age appropriate. This was a sweet, sexy, easy read with the perfect amount of angst for me. I appreciated how not-sleazy the strip club location was and how good of a club owner and boss Hank was. I enjoyed the small town quality and seeing other couples from previous books from Charlotte and Hank's perspective. The jump ahead epilogue was super cute too.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read and is my favorite of the series so far. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, which I think is Isaac and Hannah's book. I am sad to see the series end after that, as I think it's hitting it's stride and I'm not ready to leave Green Valley and the Winstons behind. This book is definitely a good book with a fun story and sweet couple. I look forward to what Ms. Reid comes up with next.

New Release: Folk Around and Find Out by Penny Reid

He needs to get her out of his system. Just once...

Folk Around and Find out, a small town, second chance contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author Penny Reid is now available!

Hank Weller doesn’t help people. He leaves that do-gooder nonsense to his best friend, Beau Winston. Hank does what he wants, when he wants, with whomever he wants—and Hank does not want to hire Charlotte Mitchell to be an exotic dancer at his club, The Pink Pony. Sure, he can’t help noticing the dips and curves of her, how shrewd, smart, and funny she is, the fire in her hazel eyes. He's always noticed. She’d probably draw a crowd and entice the regulars. But after Charlotte's messy, public divorce made Hank’s club out to be the culprit—and made her the single mother of four kids—he doesn’t need or want any additional bad press courtesy of Charlotte Mitchell. Or the distraction. Unfortunately for him, the town’s prettiest charity case doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words nope, no, and never.

Charlotte Mitchell doesn’t much like Hank Weller. Once upon a time, she used to. Years ago, she liked him a whole heckofalot despite other folks in town labeling him as “eccentric” and “nonconformist,” which were polite southern alternatives to "filthy rich" and "self-centered douchebag." Her opinion of him changed dramatically after he volunteered to be her date to junior prom and then promptly stood her up. They haven't so much as acknowledged each other in over a decade. But a sudden family emergency means Charlotte needs access to Hank’s club ASAP. Unfortunately for her, the narcissistic fancy-pants doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words help, generosity, and compassion.

But he’s about to find himself schooled. Charlotte is going to teach Hank a lesson once and for all about basic human decency, whether he likes it or not.

Spoiler alert. . . he likes it. ;-)

After fighting her way across another plane of existence and facing off against ancient witches, there should be nothing more satisfying than coming home. Unfortunately, Kelsey Atwood had a different experience. The world she returned to has changed. Twelve years have passed, and they’ve been twelve hard years for the friends and family she never meant to leave behind. The little boy she adopted is now a grown man. Review:

3.5 stars

This was a pretty good book, while not my favorite in the series. The Rebel Guardian is the latest addition to the Thieves/Outlaws series. In this installment, we get Kelsey's POV in the aftermath after she returns through the painting to discover she lost twelve years of time and deals with everything that has changed in that time.

Overall, I enjoyed the forward movement in the series storyline in this book, although I wanted even more movement. I liked the way that Kelsey dealt with the changes she faced. She didn't dwell on the things she missed too much and was determined to focus on the future and taking down Myrradin in the coming war. I enjoyed catching back up with characters we have missed, like Fenrir and Evangeline. Also, I'm very excited about seeing the relationships develop for the next generation of royals in the future. But I did think the book was a little slow moving. I also wanted a bit more heat and love feeling between Kelsey and her men, which I felt got a little lost at times. Still, I did enjoy this book and I love this series. I cannot wait to see what Ms. Blake comes up with for this gang in the future!

New Release: Butt-Dialing the Billionaire by Annika Martin

My imitation of our billionaire boss had everyone ROFL. Well...almost everyone. Worst. Butt-dial. Ever!

Butt-dialing the Billionaire by Annika Martin is now live!

It was just some silly fun. A goofy imitation of the faceless mega-billionaire who owns our faceless international mega-corporation.

And yes, there was laughter. Possibly a few hoots and screams.

How was I to know that Dave from accounting had sat on the speakerphone, butt-dialing said mega-billionaire? Or that he'd listen to me make fun of him for ten straight minutes.

Ummm...he could've announced himself!

They say he's a notorious rake. A paparazzi-punching scoundrel. An international jet-set bad boy.

And now I hear he's determined to track down the jokester. Me.

Eep!

But we're tight like family in this office—no way will my co-workers rat me out, in spite of the pressure from the top. Plus, who brings the cookies? Moi!

Things die down after a few months, and I'm pretty sure I'm safe.

Thank goodness, because I have my hands full with our lazy, arrogant new office gopher. He has the worst work ethic I've ever seen—how did he even get hired? He doesn't know how to work a vending machine, and he's baffled when we send around a card to be signed for somebody's birthday. It's as if he's never set foot in a place of business in his life.

But little by little, we're drawing closer. He's funny. Sexy. Wicked. Still, he's all wrong for me. I like respectable men with a work ethic.

Also, I can't shake the feeling that he's hiding something…
