Pucked Love, the final sexy and emotional standalone in the NYT bestselling Pucked Series from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting, is available NOW!

PUCKEDLOVE_full_trim (1).jpg

As an NHL player, relationships haven’t been my thing. Shrouded in secrecy and speculation, they never last very long. But then that’s what happens when you require an NDA before the first date.
Until Charlene. She’s like a firefly. She’s elusive, and if you catch her she’ll burn bright, but keeping her trapped dulls her fire and dims her beauty.
I caught her. And as much as I might want to keep her, I’ll never put the lid on her jar. Not at the risk of losing her. So I've let her set the rules in our relationship.
But as long hidden secrets expose us both, I discover exactly how fragile Charlene is, and how much I need her.
We’re all broken. We’re all messed up. Some more than others. Me more than most.

REVIEW:

3.5-3.75 stars
****

This was a pretty good book. Pucked Love is Darren and Charlene's story. They have been dating for two years, but as their close friends can see, their relationship is different than the other couples. We soon find out that their relationship is missing something. They want to go to the next level but both had strange childhoods. They are afraid and not sure how to move forward. This book is the couple's journey to a real, normal, loving relationship.

This story was good. I liked Charlene and Darren. They can see that their relationship is not normal. Their couple friends are moving on to marriage and babies. But Charlene and Darren don't call or text each other unless to set up when they see each other again. They rarely spend the night together and they don't really know each that well for a couple who have been in a two year relationship. Their friends thought they had some kinky secret, but really they just both had terrible childhoods that affected the way they act in their relationship. Charlene has anxiety and Darren is worried he will be traded to the new expansion team, which leaves a lot of fear and uncertainty between them. They both know they like each other, but have never said I love you or discussed feelings. This book is about the couple figuring out that they want more from their relationship and being brave enough to take the chance. It is a more subtle, less angsty book, but both characters do have real fear of losing each other. I understood why they were the way they were and I sympathized. Neither of them wanted to break up and I never thought they would. They just had to figure out how to move forward. Darren was very sweet with Charlene. He was patient and careful with her so she felt safe, never faltering,

I do think the book could have used a flashback to them falling in love. I think that hurt the book a little. We missed seeing the first two years of their relationship from their perspective. I felt like something was off a bit to keep me from totally loving this book. It was maybe the pacing or lack of tension. I do recommend this book to be read after the full series and not as a standalone. Still, I did enjoy this book. It had the series' trademark humor. There was funny moments, sexy and sweet moments, and emotional ones. It was great to catch up with the whole gang and I'm sorry to see the series end.

I enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend the Pucked series. I look forward to whatever comes next from Ms. Hunting!

Excerpt:

You’re turning twenty-six. It’s your champagne birthday, so we need to do something fun.” Violet bounces, making her boobs shake and my mimosa slosh perilously. “It should be themed! We can all wear leather chaps!” “Could you be any more clichΓ©?” I roll my eyes. “Just to be clear, Darren doesn’t own chaps.” “Just a ball gag and a mask with no eye holes, according to Alex.” And we’re back to my sex life. I knew I was getting off so easy. I wonder if Darren is catching this kind of heat today. I seriously doubt it’s worse than what I’m getting since I don’t think his friends are likely to push his buttons, but I’ll have to ask when I speak to him next. I’m not sure when that will be, either. The message I sent about Gertrude was pretty straightforward and doesn’t necessarily require a response. Maybe I should’ve worded it differently. Sunny raises her hand, like we’re all still in middle school and she’s waiting her turn to speak. “Wouldn’t a mask with no eyeholes be dangerous? You wouldn’t be able to see where you’re going.” Her eyes widen, and she looks around the room. “And what’s a ball gag?” I honestly love that Sunny has grown up in this highly overinformed society and still manages to be innocent. “Yeah, Char, wouldn’t a mask with no eyeholes be dangerous?” Violet props her fist on her chin and smiles. “And please, do explain what a ball gag is.” “I’m not sure you really want the answer to that, Sunny.” Poppy gives me a look I can’t quite decipher. Sunny twirls her hair around her finger. “Why not?” “Where’s the harm in a little bondage-sex education? It’s not like Miller’s ever going to go out and buy either item for her. First of all, Alex would murder him, and secondly, I don’t think that’s Miller’s thing.” Sunny’s face lights up, and she does jazz hands. “Oh! I think I know what Miller’s thing is!” Lily grins. “Eating your cookie?” “He really likes to do that, a lot. When my belly gets too big I’ll have to watch from the mirror.” She gets a faraway look in her eyes. “But he has another thing! Kind of like how you and Randy are always getting it on in bathrooms, except I think it’s a bit more sanitary.” “And it doesn’t cause thousands of dollars of damage,” Violet adds. Lily throws her hands up in the air. “That sink was already falling off the wall. It’s not my fault it broke!” “That was one expensive orgasm,” I say. “And Randy says it was worth every penny.” Lily’s smile is devious as she bites her knuckle, then turns to Sunny. “Anyway, back to Miller’s thing.” Sunny wiggles around excitedly in her chair. “So Miller paints my toenails for me.” “Miller’s thing is painting your toenails?” “Yes. Well, no. I think he likes my toes.” Her fingers go to her lips, and she looks around the room, her cheeks flushing. “Say what now?” Violet asks. ”Sometimes he kisses them.” She covers her mouth with her palm and says something unintelligible. Violet sits forward in her chair. “Hold on a second, does Buck have a foot fetish?” “Um, I don’t know.” Sunny looks worried now. “Is that weird? Is it, like, mask with no eyeholes kind of weird?”

Fireworks
(True North #6)
by Sarina Bowen

Blurb:

Skye Copeland is on paid leave from her broadcasting job after accidentally drawing a pecker on the traffic map.

Let that sink in. Like it’s her fault the traffic pattern created a perfect schlong?

Skye isn’t laughing. She needs this job. And that’s the only reason she’s willing to chase down a story in her least favorite place—that hell on earth known as Vermont.

A quick trip. In and out. Much like - never mind. She can sneak into the town that once tried to break her, get the story and slide back into the good graces of her producer. Easy peasy.

But things go sideways the moment she steps over the county line. Her stepsister is running from a violent drug dealer. And the cop on the case is none other than Benito Rossi, the man who broke Skye’s teenage heart.

His dark brown eyes still tear her apart. And even as she steels herself to finally tell him off after twelve years, the old fireworks are still there.

Things are about to go boom.

Review:

3.75-4 stars
****

This was a good book. Fireworks is Benito and Skye/Skyler's story. Benito is Zara's twin brother, from earlier books in the series. Skye is from the same small Vermont town. She had a rough childhood, moving around with her mother to various boyfriends in different trailer parks. In high school, they moved to Vermont and in with an abusive, mean stepfather. Benito's family lived next door. They became best friends and he helped protect her and be an escape for her. Skye had a major crush on him, and just when she thinks they were becoming more than friends, something awful happens that leaves her heartbroken. She runs away to live with her aunt, leaving Vermont for twelve years. Now, she is a news reporter in New York. She had an embarrassing snafu on the air, which leads to her being put on-leave until the incident blows over. Her stepsister, Rayanne, calls her back home to Vermont for the first time since high school as a favor to help her with something mysterious. Skye takes the chance to go back, hoping not to run into anyone she once knew, but Rayanne flakes out on her and leaves her hanging. One of the first people she sees is Benito. He is now a police detective investigating drugs in the area, including Skye's stepfather and stepsister. Benito is happy to see Skye again to work out what went wrong between them. They spend time together while he investigates and get to know each other again. There is some suspense, some really sweet and sexy moments, and some emotional times, but it all works out for them in the end.

I loved Benito and Skye. They might be my favorite couple from this series. Benito was swoony and very close to perfect. Skye was great too. I very much felt like they loved each other and were meant to be together. They had a great connection and chemistry. There was very little pushing away. The story was good and different from the others. It is a bit lighter and there was more happy times between the couple as they got to know each other again and healed old wounds. I loved catching back up with the other characters in the series too.

I really liked this book in general, but there was one thing that bothered me and kept me from totally 100% loving it. I was really loving Benito. I felt like he was pretty much perfect. But near the end, there is a instance of OW drama that knocked him down a peg. I hated that it happened and I especially hated who the person was that was involved. Don't get me wrong. There is no cheating. Benito completely adored Skye and wanted a future with her alone. That's why I was shocked at the drama and felt like it served no purpose. If it wasn't for this OW drama, especially so late in the book which left a bad taste in my mouth, this book would have been higher rated.

In general though, if I ignore the OW drama, I really liked most of this book. I love Sarina Bowen's writing and this series. I did really love Benito, Skye, and their journey to their happy ever after. They definitely belonged together and deserved their happiness. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this series and Ms. Bowen in the future.

REVIEW:

3 stars
***

I really enjoyed book one in this trilogy, Perversion, but I didn't quite enjoy this book as much. Possession is the second book in the trilogy and the continuation of Grim and Tricks/ Emma Jean's story. The previous book left us with a big cliffhanger and this book picks up right there, full speed ahead. I can't go much into the plot without spoiling the story so I'll leave it at that.

I still love the world Ms. Frazier has built in this series. I like Emma Jean and Grim. This book is fast paced and action filled, with a lot crammed into a short book. At times I felt the drama was OTT, which kept me from feeling a strong connection to the characters. The pace was so fast I didn't feel the emotions like I expected to. This series is not for the faint of heart. There are several triggers: a good bit of rape, gang rape, torture, and a f/f non-con scene that I did not enjoy at all. I felt that scene was possibly added just for shock value and did not need to be so detailed and descriptive. Not many problems were solved in the book, only more problems made for the couple. I enjoyed the story in general, but hope that the final book has more happier times and less darkness. Grim and Tricks have definitely got their hands full in getting themselves out of trouble in the final book.

Overall, while this book isn't my favorite in the series, I still enjoyed it. I can't wait to see how Ms. Frazier wraps it up!

BLURB

A hot summer night is perfect for feeling your way in the dark…
For urban-legend hunter and television host Gabe Powers, it’s business—investigate the most notorious haunted places in Savannah. Then he meets his new sound engineer, a dewy Georgia peach who may just turn this gig into (im)pure pleasure. All it takes is one night for them to conjure floor-rattling, wall-banging moans…but they’re not from the ghosts.
Blame the rippling abs, the cocky swagger, the granite jawline, the whole muscle-bulging package, but Gabe is bringing out good-girl Lily Jameson’s dirty side. Damn her code-of-conduct contract—this isn’t just a molten-hot fling.
There’s just one kink in the relationship they’ve been avoiding: soon they’ll be going their separate ways. Lily’s home is in Savannah, and Gabe is a globe-trotter at heart. For them to be together, they’ll both have to upend their so-very-different worlds and face their fears in the process. And suddenly things don’t feel so Georgia peachy keen at all.

EXCERPT

Halfway up the steps, I slid my hand around her waist from behind. She stopped and I took one more step up so my hips were even with hers. I was rock hard in my pants, and I let her feel it between her ass cheeks. She groaned and held on to the railing more tightly. White knuckles. Fuck yes.
“You’re going to need to keep doing that,” I told her as I sheltered her with my body, the curve of my abs and chest pressed against her back. I slid my hand up to her tits and pinched her nipple through her dress.
“Keep doing what?” she asked. Her voice was thick with heat and desire. Not so soft and gentle anymore. I placed my hand over hers on the banister. “Keep hanging on tight.”
She let her head drop down, and I swept her hair over one shoulder. I placed my lips at the curve where her neck met her shoulder and looked down into her cleavage. I was torn—part of me wanted to ravage her, part of me wanted to worship her.
There was plenty of time for both.
I undid her delicate zipper tooth by tooth. It sounded every bit as good as I’d imagined it would. She was holding her breath as I did it, tipping her head to the side to get me to keep kissing her. Fuck knew I wanted to. But I needed her to know that this wasn’t going to be all tenderness either, and I needed there to be no doubt that no matter how bad I wanted her, I was the one running this show. Once I had her zipper undone, I hiked her dress up and yanked her hips back into mine, making her gasp. The ripples of the impact made her ass tremble. She bent forward as her dress slid from her shoulders. She supported herself with her palms on the stairs, her fingertips on the edge of the step. Her dress slid off her into a flowery circle at her feet, revealing a black thong. With a tiny red bow that I hadn’t been able to see earlier.
“I’m keeping these.”

Cover Reveal: Across the Horizon by Aly Martinez

“Sometimes love happens when you least expect it.” That was what my husband’s mistress told me the day I found out about their affair.

I didn’t believe it until five minutes later when mouth-watering celebrity chef Tanner Reese walked up, tossed his arm around my shoulders, and told my cheating husband to take a hike. Tanner and I couldn’t have been more different. He spent his weekends at clubs, rubbing elbows with fellow A-listers. I spent mine in yoga pants with cheese boards and a glass of wine—or six. Our relationship shouldn’t have worked, but it did. That is until Tanner proved to me that even though love happens when you least expect it... So does heartbreak.
