 This was a cute, light read. Grumpy Cowboy is Leah and Rhett's story. Leah is a second in command orthopedic doctor for an NFL team. Her boss decides to send her to help out a friend on a Utah ranch during the off-season. Leah thinks that she is coming to help the teenage son of her boss's good friend rehabilitate after knee surgery. But after she arrives for her summer at the ranch, she meets Rhett, who is a grumpy cowboy, former rodeo bullrider, and single dad, and who is definitely not a teenage boy. He also definitely does not want Leah's help and fights her every step of the way on his leg rehabilitiation. He treats her pretty poorly, but gradually he sees she's not the stuck up city girl he imagined. Leah charms everyone on the ranch, especially Rhett's daughter, Joey. And gradually, Leah and Rhett fall for each other.

I thought this story was fun and interesting. I did find a few parts to be overly silly and ridiculous, and not my sense of humor. A few times, Leah acted like she had no common sense and not like a smart doctor. I'm not a big fan of enemies to lovers so I didn't really enjoy the beginning of the couple's relationship very much. I didn't feel any chemistry or attraction, just unnecessary hate from Rhett. There is not hint of attraction from him until nearly half way and I felt it came out of nowhere with no buildup. The second half of the book I enjoyed much more, especially the cute ending. I ended up liking Rhett and Leah as a couple once they got their act together. I liked Rhett's daughter, Joey, too, even if she acted more like a 10 year old than a five year old.

Overall, this was a light, easy read. There are some funny and sweet moments. At times, however, when reading Max Monroe books, they verge into silly/not funny territory and I wish for a little more depth. I enjoy a light read sometimes and I really like these authors, but I feel they have potential to be even better. Still, I will keep reading their books and hoping for a bit more from them in the future.

 This was a good read. Fake is the first book in the West Hollywood series by Kylie Scott and it is Patrick and Norah's story. Patrick is a huge movie star, who finds himself embroiled in some drama with a married co-star. Norah is a waitress at a tiny restaurant where Patrick often escapes to eat alone in anonymity. One day, his agent comes with him to lunch and Norah overhears their conversation in which they are talking about finding him fake girlfriend to get the press off his back and boost his image. Patrick isn't interested in any of his agent's candidates, but he asks Norah if she would be interested. She soon finds herself hired as his fake girlfriend for at least six months and living in his house. Patrick is mysterious, but Norah is determined to get to know him and become friends since they are in this situation. But as they spend time together, their relationship moves from fake to very real and they fall for each other.

I enjoyed this fun story and liked the book. I really liked Norah, while Patrick remained a bit of a mystery (although it was clear he was a good guy). I wanted a bit more discussion between the couple and more communication. A few things were never discussed that I expected to be and I would have liked an epilogue. Still, overall, Fake is a good, easy read. I enjoyed Norah and Patrick's relationship development. I look forward to more from this new series and from Ms. Scott in the future!

Excerpt

CHAPTER ONE

He slunk into the restaurant mid-afternoon wearing his usual scowl. Ignoring the closed sign, he took a booth near the back. No one else was allowed to do this. Just him. Today’s wardrobe consisted of black jeans, Converse, and a button-down shirt. Doubtless designer. And the way those sleeves hugged his biceps . . . why, they should have been ashamed of themselves. I was this close to yelling “get a room.” 

Instead, I asked, “The usual?”

Slumped down in the corner of the booth, he tipped his chin in reply. For such a tall guy, he sure went out of his way to try to hide.

I said no more. Words were neither welcomed nor wanted. Which was fine since (A) I was tired and (B) he tipped well for the peace and quiet.

Out back, Vinnie the cook was busy prepping for tonight, his knife making quick work of an onion.

“He’s here,” I said.

A smile split Vinnie’s face. He was a huge fan of the man’s action films. The ones he’d made before hitting it big time and taking on more serious dramatic roles. Him choosing to visit the restaurant every month or so made Vinnie’s life complete. Especially since the restaurant, Little Italy, was the very definition of a hole in the wall. Not somewhere generally frequented by the Hollywood elite. Meanwhile, I was less of a fan, but still a fan. You know.

“Get him his beer,” Vinnie ordered.

Like I didn’t know my job. Sheesh.

He was busy with his cell by the time I placed the Peroni in front of him. No glass. He drank straight from the bottle like an animal. Just then, a woman in a red sweater dress and tan five-inch-heel booties strode in through the front door.

“I’m sorry, we’re closed,” I said.

“I’m with him.” She headed straight for his booth and slid into the other side, giving the man a dour look. “You can’t just walk out, Patrick. You’re going to have to choose one of them.”

“Nope.” He took a pull from his beer. “They all sucked.”

“There had to be at least one that would do.”

“Not even a little.”

She sighed. “Keep this up and you’ll be obsolete by next week. Beyond help. Forgotten.”

“Go away, Angie.”

“Just another talented but trash male in Hollywood. That’s what they’re saying on social media.” 

“I don’t give a shit.”

“Liar,” she drawled.

I wasn’t quite sure what to do. Obviously they knew each other, but he did not seem to want her here. And she really wasn’t supposed to be here. Vinnie had okayed after-hours entry to only one person. On the other hand, if I asked her to leave, she’d probably sic her lawyers on me. She looked the type.

The woman spied me hovering. “Get me a glass of red.”

“She’s not staying,” countermanded Patrick.

Angie didn’t move an inch. “They were all viable options. Pliant. Young. Pretty. Discreet. Nothing weird or kinky in their backgrounds.”

“That might have made them more interesting.”

“Interesting women is what got you into this mess.” The woman frowned, taking me in. Still hovering. One perfectly shaped brow rose in question. “Yes? Is there a problem?”

Now it was Patrick’s turn to sigh and give me a nod. He was so dreamy with his jaw and cheekbones and his everything. Real classic Hollywood handsome. Especially with his short light brown hair in artful disarray and a hint of stubble. Sometimes it was hard not to stare. Which is probably why his personality tended to scream “leave me alone.”

I headed for the small bar area at the back of the restaurant to fetch the wine like a good little waitress. 

“We shouldn’t be discussing this here,” said Angie, giving the room a disdainful sniff. Talk about judgy. I thought the raw brick walls and chunky wood tables were cool. Give or take Vinnie’s collection of old black-and-white photos of Los Angeles freeways. Who knew what that was about?

Patrick slumped down even further. “I’m not going back there. I’m done with it.”

“This isn’t safe.” Angie looked around nervously. “Let’s—”

“We’re fine. I’ve been coming here for years.”

“You just got dropped from a big-budget film, Patrick,” she said, exasperation in her tone. “The industry may not find you bankable right now, but I’m sure gossip about you is still selling just fine. This week at least.”

 Aww, this was super cute! Dating the Player is the first book in The Legends series and is a spin off of a previous book, Halftime Husband, where we were introduced to this couple. This is Dak/Dakota and Eloise's book. Dak is a playboy football NFL player. He is flirty and charming to everyone (he reminded me of Jimmy Garofalo). Eloise is a hot nerd, who has no idea she's hot. She works in the team's press/marketing department and wears cat sweaters all the time. Everytime Dak comes in the office he flirts with her and calls her "Kitty". Dak keeps getting himself in trouble by going on twitter rants, being irreverant and putting his foot in his mouth. So Eloise is assigned the task of being his "babysitter" and keeping him from getting himself in trouble on the internet. She goes with Dak on a trip to visit his family and hometown and the two fall for each other. Dak is all-in with her and ready to for a relationship, but he must prove to Eloise that he is ready to settle down and can be trusted.

Dak and Eliose were adorable together. I really liked them both. I understood Eloise's fear about giving her heart to Dak and potentially getting hurt. But Dak truly adored her and was smitten from the start. He had to prove himself to her and convince her that he was a good guy and would be a great partner. They had sizzling chemistry and there were so many cute, witty moments between them. This was a low angst read, with no big blowups or OP drama. This was just a fun, sweet, sexy, swoony, easy read.

Dating the Player was just plain fun! I loved Dak and his Kitty and I was so happy to see them find love together. I really look forward to more from this series and from Ms. McCarthy!

As Dak sauntered through, big and cocky, it was like watching the viral video of fainting goats. First all the women sat up straight, tits out, eyelashes fluttering madly, then as soon as he passed them, they collapsed back, drained and dreamy.
Even though I knew for a fact that he’d had sex with at least two of the women at headquarters, he never spoke to anyone in particular.
Except me.
In the cruelest of all damn ironies, he spoke to me on a regular basis.
Wearing track pants that did nothing to hide a huge cock moving freely beneath the cotton, Dak came toward me. And yes, even as a virgin, I had enough experience with penises in general to know that his was nothing short of impressive. He had on a team logo sweatshirt, which also didn’t disguise his broad shoulders and ripped arms. His hands were huge, and I imagined if he spread one across my face, it would block out the sun entirely.  Taggart Family Values is a really fun short story collection featuring Ian and Charlie's happiest and funniest family memories. This book catches us up on our favorite couple from the Masters and Mercenaries series. We get to see the moment Ian met his love, Charlie, and how they spent their first night together. We also get to see the days of each of their kids' births, some funny family scenes, and how they met, adopted, and settled in with their daughter, Tasha. I especially loved the jump ahead scene with Kenzie as an adult and I can't wait for that book to come. I love Ian and Charlie together. They are sexy, funny and sweet. Their family is perfectly imperfect and so much fun. Overall, this was a really good refresher and catch up with the Masters and Mercenaries gang. I love that series so much and can't wait for more from it and Ms. Blake in the future!

 This book was my favorite of the series and so good! Tempting Fate is the final book in the Goode Girls series and, the final sister, Felicity's story. Felicity is the last sister at home left unmarried. In the previous books, Felicity met Gabriel, who is the brother of her sister's husband and is badly disfigured so he wears a mask. When last she saw him, he saved Felicity's life but afterwards she is heartbroken when she is told that he died. Now, in the present, Felicity is expected to marry and for her husband the run the family business, since her parents are gone. Strange things start happening and it seems someone is trying to hurt or kill her. So Felicity decides to hire a bodyguard of sorts to protect her, and in a stroke of fate, Gabriel turns up and takes the job. As they spend time together, their initial connection develops into love and a happily ever after.

I really liked Felicity. Her character was much more relatable to me than her more brash sisters. She is shy and has anxiety. Gabriel is the strong and very silent type and has been fascinated with her from the moment he met her. He absolutely adored her and worshipped the ground she walked on. They were so sweet together and I loved that they were each other's first everything. This was a low angst read with no big blow up. It was a romantic, sweet and sexy story and an easy read. I was so glad to see Felicity and Gabriel, who never imagined they would find love, so happy together. They were a great match.

Overall, this book was a good wrap up to this fun series! I have liked all of the Goode sisters' stories very much. I really enjoyed Gabriel and Felicity's journey to love and I look forward to more from Ms. Byrne in the future!
