New Release: Wild Hunger by Suzanne Wright + Review!

Wild Hunger
by Suzanne Wright

When half–wolf shifter Frankie Newman receives an e-mail from a family member she didn’t know existed, a secret is revealed: as a child, Frankie witnessed her father killing her mother…and then himself. Frankie was torn from her pack by her mother’s human relatives, and the trauma was erased from her memory. Realizing that she’s been lied to her entire life, she’s never felt more alone. Until she catches the scent of an old friend—warmly familiar and intoxicating.

Trick Hardy, enforcer of the Phoenix Pack, can sense the rush of mutual attraction when he sees Frankie again. He knows immediately that she’s his true mate. But he also knows that, given her fragile state, he needs to tread with care—no matter how fierce his surging desires.

As aroused as Frankie is by Trick’s darkly dominant air and simmering desire, her priority right now is her past—not her future, no matter how tempting. But as more secrets emerge and Frankie’s life is threatened, Trick must do everything he can to keep her close and safe. After all, it’s their destiny.

Wild Hunger was a good addition to my favorite shifter series! This is Trick and Frankie's story. Frankie and Trick were in the same pack as children. Frankie is a half human/half wolf shifter. Tragedy happened to her parents when she was young, causing her to be raised by her human grandparents outside of the pack. Now, her shifter grandmother is dying, so she has asked to meet Frankie one last time. So some of the pack members, including Trick, go to meet Frankie and invite her to their territory. The minute he lays eyes on Frankie, Trick knows she is his mate. He gradually pursues her, and they spend time together and fall for each other. There is some suspense and mystery regarding the tragedy from Frankie's family past and a threat to her life for them to fight together, but they overcome to get their HEA.

I really liked Trick and Frankie both together and as characters. Frankie was strong and not a pushover, but also kind and open to Trick. She is an amazing sculptor too. Trick is laid back, but determined to win Frankie over and not let her go. I loved that Trick recognized Frankie as his mate on site. I did really enjoy seeing their relationship develop. They were a great couple and I liked that they came together easily, with low angst and no pushing away. All of the drama in the book came from outside forces.

I was really loving the story, but in the end, I felt there was too much OW/OM drama. Trick is bisexual and had some previous partners, male and female. While they were just flings or "scratch my itch" type partners, they popped up too much in the story and caused Frankie to feel hurt and insecure. I know it was used as plot device in the suspense storyline in this situation, but it did bother me. Trick wasn't a manwhore, so why bring so much attention to his meaningless partners from the past. It took away from their relationship a bit and disappointed me. It was obvious that Trick cared only about Frankie and adored her.

Still, I really enjoyed this book as I always do Ms. Wright's books. The book was nice and long with a good, interesting story. There is the trademark humor, sexiness and emotion I expect from this series. I look forward to more from the Phoenix pack in the future!

In her dark and deliciously satisfying Phoenix Pack series, Suzanne Wright proves that paranormal romance may be the most powerful aphrodisiac of all. The sensual and intense tales focus on a group of sexy wolf shifters who live and love among humans. On a passionate hunt for their true mates, these protective Alpha males must constantly navigate a world where anti-shifter sentiment runs high, and claim what is rightfully theirs in order to protect the pack. Shifter romance at its best, the Phoenix Pack series will captivate fans of Nalini Singh and Shelly Laurenston.
