For years, he was a part of my life. I watched him rush to the hospital countless times, his beautiful surgeon hands racing to save lives.

After all this time, I can’t escape the truth.

I want Dr. Lowe.

Lust chokes each moment we’re together. He promises to fulfill my fantasies—every dirty, naughty desire we can dream up.

Only, I can’t have him.

He’s confident. Experienced. Seductive.

And he’s my ex-boyfriend’s father.

The Doctor is something different from Nikki Sloane. This is Cassidy and Greg/Dr. Lowe's story. Nineteen year old Cassidy has been dating Preston for a few years in high school and her first year of college. He was her first real relationship. When the relationship runs its course, Cassidy breaks up with Preston and very quickly finds herself in a taboo, secret relationship with his dad, Greg, a doctor who has starred in her fantasies.

I am a big fan of Nikki Sloane. I have liked everything she has written. I love the way she marries strong emotion, angst, chemistry between characters and hot sexy times. The Doctor is a little bit of a departure from her normal writing style, in my opinion. The story is not so different. It is hot as all her books are and taboo as some of hers' are as well. But, this book felt more like straight erotica for me, rather than romance. There is not the usual strong emotions to go along with the hot sex scenes. I don't mind erotica when I know that's what I'm reading before I begin, but I wasn't expecting it in this book. There was a lot of extremely hot scenes, but I wanted a bit more emotion, character depth and connection. Greg and Cassidy seemed like nice people, although a little bland. Cassidy did act immature a few times and it was hard to see why Greg liked her so much besides physical attraction. It was not that there was too much sex, I will never say that, but there wasn't enough of anything else besides sex. It was hard for me to connect to or sympathize with either Greg or Cassidy. Their actions were not ones I could understand easily. Greg perved on Cassidy a lot while she dated his son. He even watched them have sex, imagining it was him, and later they reenacted that scene. Some of the other characters' reactions to their relationship were not realistic to me. I had a hard time believing in a HEA for these two, mostly because I didn't feel like their relationship was beyond surface level.

Still, I did enjoy this book for what it was, despite it not being what I expected. Cassidy and Dr. Lowe share some very hot moments. If you are in the mood for an erotic book with a taboo story, this one is for you! I will forever be a fan of Nikki Sloane and I look forward to more from her in the future!

  About the Author:

Nikki Sloane landed in graphic design after her careers as a waitress, a screenwriter, and a ballroom dance instructor fell through. For eight years she worked for a design firm in that extremely tall, black, and tiered building in Chicago that went through an unfortunate name change during her time there. Now she lives in Kentucky and manages a team of graphic artists. She is a member of the Romance Writers of America, is married with two sons, writes dirty books, and couldn’t be any happier.
