New Release: Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen + Review!

Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen is now available!

Five nights. Two adversaries. Only one bed in their hotel room.

I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name.
Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job.

But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.

So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?

It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.

Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Expect: a growly hero, a lady boss with no time for his attitude, and a war of wills and hormones. Bonus: a hunk wearing a baby in a sling.

REVIEW:

4 stars
****

This is a good book! Moonlighter is the first book in the new series, The Company, by Sarina Bowen. It focuses on Alex and Eric's story. The two were friends as kids but lost touch as they grew up. Now, Alex is a mega rich CEO of her own company and Eric is a pro hockey player. When they meet again at a party as adults, embarrassingly for them both, Alex does not recognize him and the encounter ends badly. In her defense, she is going through a stressful, hard time. She recently left an abusive relationship and found out she is pregnant. Eric's father and brother run a very successful, exclusive security firm of which Alex is a client. She hires them as protection against her ex and to help her get him to sign over his rights to her unborn child. Eric's father enlists his help to pose as Alex's boyfriend to the public and to attend a big convention in Hawaii as her protection. As the two spend time together, they find they still have a bond from their childhood. They also have great chemistry and an attraction as adults. The two spend time together and fall in love, while dealing with her ex, business industry drama and his hockey injury.

This story was really good. I really liked both Alex and Eric. She was smart, strong and powerful in business, but not bitchy or cold. She showed her vulnerability and could be herself with Eric. He was hot, sweet and loving with her. I found it unique in that Alex was pregnant with another man's child, but that didn't really much factor in to her burgeoning relationship with Eric. There wasn't a ton of focus on the pregnancy, it affect her relationship, or her worry about it. I wanted a little more clarity on how it was going to work with the baby. Was Eric going to be it's dad and be called Dad, etc.? Also, I needed more closure and resolution in general. I wanted more discussion about marriage and their future. I would have loved an epilogue. Still, I liked the story and writing a lot. I loved the security company/suspense/action/mystery aspect combined with hockey, too.

Overall, Moonlighter was a good book. I really liked Alex and Eric together and felt the love between them. This series set up seems really fun and different. I look forward to more from this series and Ms. Bowen in the future!
