In search of more unicorns like herself, Moonlight ventures into the Enchanted Forest, ready for an adventure. Instead of finding unicorns, she discovers a whole new world of fairies, magic, and all kinds of other creatures. At first, the fairies are afraid of Moonlight, but with her kind heart and willingness to help them, they soon warm up to her. It turns out that the fairy flowers that give them their magic is in jeopardy because of a fire breathing dragon that burns them as he flies by. Moonlight offers to find this dragon along with the help of Aleena, a spunky purple-haired fairy not afraid of danger. They set out to find the Mystic Cave which is in the deepest, darkest realms of the forest. Together, they learn how to face their fears, and above all else, the true meaning of friendship.

Moonlight and Aleena: A Tale of Two Friends is a children's book that romance author L. P. Dover wrote with her young daughter, Anna-Grace. This book is full of magic and imagination. It is not my usual genre to review, but I am a mom of five kids so I do read a lot of children's books with them. When I got the chance to review this book, I thought that it would be a fun book to read with my two youngest children and get their opinions. My two youngest kids are Nick, age six, and Maggie, age four. We read the book together and I interviewed them about it. I was going to do a video of them answering the questions, but I'm technically challenged and I couldn't figure out how to edit the video. Whomp whomp. So I am just posting the interview. Here's what they thought!

Q: Tell me a little bit about the book.
N: The story is about Moonlight and she met a fairy named Aleena who was blue. They saved the fairies from the dragon and he became their friend.

Q: Did you guys like the illustrations in the book?
N: Yes, I really liked the colors of Aleena and the unicorn's mane.
M: I liked the unicorn and the fairy because the fairy's dress is blue. I love the fairy and even the unicorn.

Q: What did you guys think of the story?
N: We liked it!

Q: What was your favorite part?
N: My favorite part was when moonlight met Aleena.
M: My favorite part was when they met the dragon, Zippy.

N: Who do you think the main character is? I think It's Moonlight, then Aleena, then Zippy.

Q: Who is your favorite character?
M: The dragon, Zippy.
N: Aleena, because she can fly and she's magical.

Q: Do you want to read more stories about Moonlight and Aleena?
N: Yes! Maybe in the next book they're going to go looking for more unicorns!
Q: Well, good because there will be another book coming soon, Moonlight and Aleena: Journey to the Snowy Forest!
M and N: Yay!

Q: Do you think other children would like this book?
N: Yes, especially girls. Sometimes boys don't like magical stuff that much. But I do! I love magical books like that one!

Q: So tell me how you would rate this book? Would you give it thumbs down, one thumbs up or two thumbs up?
N: A thousand thumbs up!
M: A thousand thumbs up too!
N: No, ten thousand thumbs up! No, a hundred thousand! 😊

So there you have it! Moonlight and Aleena: A Tale of Two Friends was a big hit! I would definitely recommend this cute, well-written, and magical book!

Author Bio

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of ten years and six-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

REVIEW:

4 stars
****

This was a good book! Fighting for What's His is the second book in the Warrior Fight Club series. This is Shayna and Billy's story. Shayna has just moved to Washington, DC for a new job. Her older brother, Ryan, is an Army Ranger deployed overseas. Ryan's best friend and former Army Ranger himself, Billy, has offered to let Shayna live with him until she gets settled and finds her own place. Shayna crushed on Billy over the years, but he has always thought of her as just Ryan's little sister. He is surprised to find her all grown up. The two have instant chemistry and attraction when they meet again. They spend time together, become friends and, eventually, fall for each other. They both have some emotional baggage to work out before they will let themselves fall completely and be happy, but it all works out for them in the end.

I read the first book in the series and enjoyed it, but I enjoyed this one even more. This book was an easy, well-paced read. I really liked Shayna and Billy. They were a good couple who really adored each other. I enjoyed their chemistry and relationship development. I liked that Shayna was a photographer, and could identify with that because I am a former photographer myself.

This book still tackles some serious subjects, but it was a little lighter than the first book in the series, which was a welcome change. There was still emotional moments, but there were also lighter, happier moments. Both Shayna and Billy have been through difficult times and share some of the same feelings because of that. They recognize them in each other and that brings them closer together. I did think the conflict wrapped up a little too close to the end and would have loved an epilogue. Still, this was a good read.

Overall, Fighting for What's His is my favorite book in the series so far. I am intrigued by the other characters in the Warrior Fight Club and I look forward to reading their stories too. Can't wait to read more from Ms. Kaye in the future!

  EXCERPT:

Billy unlocked the door and gestured for her to go first. She hit the lights for the living room, and he dropped their bags onto the living room floor next to the door. She turned and frowned, because it wasn’t like him to— Billy’s hands were suddenly in her hair and his forehead was against hers. “You drive me fucking crazy, Shayna.” “I-I do?” she asked, totally caught off guard but nearly euphoric at his words. “Good crazy, o-or—” He nodded. “Good crazy. Even though, fuck. I should resist wanting you. I know I should.” “No, no you shouldn’t,” she said, nearly breathless. “Why should you?” His eyes were dark fire as they bore into hers. “You’re just starting out in life. Everything ahead of you, full of possibilities. But me…I’m a busted, used-up soldier without an army or a war. And I’m supposed to be looking out for you, not taking advantage of you.” Shayna didn’t know what to respond to first. She hated that he saw himself that way. Shaking her head, she grasped at his wrists, holding him to her. “We had that conversation already. You can’t take advantage of someone who wants what you’re doing. And I…I do. God, you have to know how much I crushed on you when I was younger. Living with you has only made that stronger, Billy. Nothing about you looks busted or used-up to me. Nothing at all.” He came closer, close enough that they touched everywhere, and he searched her eyes. “Ryan wouldn’t approve of this, of me.” The closeness made it clear just how turned on he was, and the demanding press of his erection against her belly nearly stole her breath. “Ryan doesn’t get a say…” Her words trailed off, because as much as she believed them in this moment, they resurrected a memory she didn’t want to recall. Of a time she’d uttered nearly those exact words to Dylan. And the consequences had been catastrophic. “What do you want then?” Billy asked, pulling her from a lane of memories she didn’t want to go down. “I don’t want to assume, and I don’t want you to feel pressured into anything because you live in my house. Jesus, just saying that makes me feel like a lecherous asshole.” “You’re not. And I don’t feel pressured. I just want you.” Suddenly, Billy’s lips were on hers and his tongue was in her mouth and his hands tightened in her hair. She moaned at the suddenness of it, at the goodness of it. He walked her backwards towards the steps. “Is this okay?” “Yes,” she whispered around the edge of a kiss. His hands moved to her waist and went to the hem of her white tank top. “Can I see you?” Shayna nodded, pulling away from their kisses only long enough for the shirt to pass over her head, leaving her standing there in a lacy white bra and her jeans. He dropped her top to the floor. “So fucking beautiful. Can I touch you?” “Yes,” she whispered, sucking in a breath as he spread out his big hand against her throat and then dragged his fingers downward until he was cupping her breast. He caught one of her bra straps and dragged it off her shoulder until he bared her nipple to his fingertips. He hauled an arm around her waist, bringing them closer even as he leaned down to kiss her exposed flesh. “Can I taste you?” Jesus, those questions in that deep rasp were so freaking sexy that she could hardly stand it. “Please.”

Cover Reveal: Fall by Kristen Callihan

The first time I met Jax Blackwood things went a little sideways. In my defense, I didn’t know he was Jax Blackwood—who expects a legendary rock star to be shopping for groceries? More importantly, a blizzard was coming and he was about to grab the last carton of mint-chocolate chip. Still, I might have walked away, but then he smugly dared me to try and take the coveted ice cream. So I kissed him. And distracted that mint-chip right out of his hands. Okay, it was a dirty move, but desperate times and all that. Besides, I never expected he’d be my new neighbor. An annoying neighbor who takes great pleasure in reminding me that I owe him ice cream but would happily accept more kisses as payment. An irresistible neighbor who keeps me up while playing guitar naked–spectacularly naked–in his living room. Clearly, avoidance is key. Except nothing about Jax is easy to ignore—not the way he makes me laugh, or that his particular brand of darkness matches mine, or how one look from him melts me faster than butter under a hot sun. Neither of us believes in love or forever. Yet we’re quickly becoming each other’s addiction. But we could be more. We could be everything. All we have to do is trust enough to fall.

Excerpt:

“Oh.” She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. “What, um . . .” Her fingers fiddled with the clip on the board. “What’s up?” “You read my note?” She nodded. “I did.” “Good.” That meant we could move on from the whole me-calling-her-by-the-wrong-name thing and get to the days where she wasn’t slamming doors in my face. “Come to the bar and have dinner with me tonight.” “Was that an invitation or a command?” I shrugged. “Does it matter?” She frowned and I knew immediately that wasn’t the right thing to say. Without a word, she marched toward the building between the bunkhouses marked SHOWERS. “Hey, wait!” I ran after her, but she was walking fast. “What about dinner?” She didn’t answer. She just kept on marching all the way to the women’s side, disappearing inside without hesitation. Well, fuck. I guess my note hadn’t worked after all. I debated going inside the showers but didn’t want to terrify a young girl if Willa wasn’t alone. So with a grumble and a kick at the dirt, I went back toward the parking lot. I didn’t miss Hazel watching from a window in the lodge, laughing her ass off. At least I was entertaining her. She’d be in for another show soon, because I’d be back again tomorrow.

Review:

3.75-4 stars
****

This was a really cute and refreshing book! I was a little weary going into Kiss the Girl. The Disney princess theme could have turned out cheesy and sometimes the humor in Ms. Sivec's books is a little OTT and potty humor-esque. But I was pleasantly surprised and happy I gave this book a try!

This is Ariel and Eric's story. Ariel went through a bad divorce from her ex that left her broke. She and her two friends, Belle and Cindy, started the Naughty Princess Club to make money. They started a mobile-stripping business dressed as Disney princesses. The business is still getting off the ground and not making money yet. Also, Ariel's self esteem is in tatters from her ex's treatment and she finds herself so broke she loses her home. Eric is a businessman and friend of Belle and Cindy's boyfriends. He is interested in Ariel from the moment he meets her and he offers to let her stay on a yacht he owns, which is next door to the yacht he lives on. That leads to friendship and then romance between Ariel and Eric.

Kiss the Girl was a fun read! At first, I wasn't sure if I liked Ariel. She seemed very negative and mean to everyone. But it soon became clear why she acted that way and her attitude improved. I ended up liking her a lot. She was spunky and funny. Eric, I liked from the get-go. He was a perfect hero. He adored Ariel. There were so many subtle (and some obvious) Little Mermaid references. I loved that the story was not an exact modernized copy, but more of a loose interpretation. I thought the Little Mermaid theme was so cute and funny, without being OTT silly. This was an easy, low angst read, too. I never doubted Eric's love for Ariel from the moment they got together. They were definitely made for each other.

Overall, Kiss the Girl was a fun, entertaining read! I will definitely go back and read the first two books in the series, as I loved the glimpses I got of the other two couples. I look forward to reading more from the Naughty Princess Club in the future!
