3.5-4 stars

The story continues and the intrigue unfolds in The Obsession by Nikki Sloane! This is the second book in the Filthy Americans trilogy and the continuation of Marist's story. I can't tell much about the story without giving anything away, but I will say that after the cliffhanger book one ended on, things get even more twisty and turny.

This book pushes the limits and knocked me out of my comfort zone. There were a few scenes that I was not happy about, but I still love the overall series story. There is a lot of angst and Marist doesn't know who she can trust. I am really pulling for her to get a happy ending with her fiance, Royce, but I'm worried it may not happen. The first book left us with many questions and they are not really answered in this book, just more questions added. I still really liked Marist and felt for her when she was put in such terrible situations. I still like Royce as he does appear to be on her side, I'm just hoping he does not truly betray her.

While I didn't quite enjoy this book as much as book one, I am very much looking forward to the conclusion of the trilogy. I hope Marist comes out on top with a real love and a happy future!

  Excerpt:

Royce wasn’t amused. “What are you doing?” I’d run my palms up his spread thighs until I found what I wanted. He made a half-hearted attempt to push my hands away, but I was persistent, and he began to grow hard under my touch. He both did and didn’t want me to keep going. “I thought that wasn’t allowed.” I stroked the bulge thickening down one leg of his suit pants. “Technically, I only agreed not to while we’re at the house.” When I reached for his belt, his grip on my wrist was more serious. “My door’s not locked.” “But it’s closed.” There was office etiquette—a closed door was treated as a locked one. Plus, Royce was a Hale and sat on the board of directors. “Only someone with career suicide would walk in here.” I undid his belt buckle with one hand while cupping him with the other, and a nearly inaudible groan came from him. God, it was hot. He stared at me with his beautifully conflicted eyes, silently pleading for me to stop but also to hurry up already and get his zipper down. My unpracticed hands shook, but it was mostly with excitement. Outside the office window, sunlight bounced off the brownish-blue bay far below. He had Boston and his fiancĂ©e at his feet, and his fingers curled tight around his throne as I pulled him free from his pants. A big part of me was thrilled with this plan, no matter how risky it was. Macalister’s constant supervision and inappropriateness had left me feeling weak and powerless. I needed to take some control back. I’d push the rules just as I pushed Royce now. “There you go, Medusa,” he muttered. He tipped his head toward his lap and his rock-hard erection. “Turning me into stone again.” A half-laugh bubbled from my chest, but then I closed my hands around him and stroked downward. Last time I’d done this, he’d told me to do it like I meant it, and so I did now. I slid my firm grip up and down, wringing another moan from him. This was his purest self. The only time I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt he was being true. His body wouldn’t let him lie. He was breathing hard, and his maroon tie rode his heaving chest like it weighed fifty pounds. It was undeniable how we looked. The prince being serviced by one of his subjects. His heavy cock throbbed in my hands, and I relished the way it felt. So soft and yet hard. “Oh, fuck,” he said appreciatively, but then he glanced at his watch and torment twisted his face. “Fuck.” Rather than pick up the pace, I slowed my tempo. “You’re making me late.” An evil smile bloomed on my face. “Then go. I’m not making you stay.” “Oh, you aren’t, huh?” He gripped my hands and urged me to pump on him faster, both with his action and his furious eyes. “Harder,” he barked, “and faster. Finish what you started.” “I’ll do it how I want, thank you very much.”

New Release: So Steady by Eve Dangerfield + Review!

So Steady
by Eve Dangerfield

Nicole DaSilva keeps her mind on the future. That’s where her perfect life is. At least it will be if she can sort out her broken engagement, get her tattoo removed, control her wayward sisters and catch the person stealing from their business…but that’s easier said than done. Especially when there’s a huge, strangely attractive tattooist in her way...

Noah Newcomb keeps his mind on the past. It’s where the demons come loose. He trusts no one and his only plans are for a vasectomy. He and Nicole make as much sense together as, well, an ex-con and a former school captain, but he's never been one to turn down a rebound thing. Especially not with a girl as Type A hot as her.

It's your standard ‘say anything to my sisters and I'll call the Australian Tax Office and tell them there's $500,000 in cash under your bed' affair, but as Nicole and Noah hook up it's clear they’re falling for each other. Can they meet in the present? Do they have a shot at something steady?

This was a good book! So Steady is book two in the Silver Daughters Ink series. This book is Nicole and Noah's story. Nicole is the twin sister of the heroine from book one and a seemingly straight laced accountant. She is back in town to help her sisters save their father's tattoo parlor after he goes missing, leaving behind her cheating fiance. Noah is a tattoo artist that works in the parlor who is hiding a secret past. He is Nicole's opposite, a bad boy who doesn't trust anyone or make connections with people easily. The two have an undeniable, combustible chemistry, though, and find that opposites attract.

I really liked Nicole and Noah. Back with her sisters, away from her fiance, Nicole begins to discover who she really is. The two of them were deep, complicated characters with lots of layers. They had such great chemistry and connection. I enjoyed both of them coming into their own and opening up to begin truly living. I really enjoyed the story. It was sexy, funny and emotional. I am loving this series and the way the ongoing series story arc is heading. I would have liked a little bit more resolution and more time spent seeing Nicole and Noah in a real relationship. But, still, this was a good read.

Overall, this was an enjoyable and entertaining book! I love the DeSilva sisters and I am really looking forward to book three in the series!

But in the end, Lottie and Mo don’t only have to find some way to keep hands off until the threat is over, they have to negotiate the overprotective Hot Bunch, Lottie’s crazy stepdad, Tex, Mo’s crew of frat-boy commandos, not to mention his nutty sisters. Excerpt:

He picked up the paper, turned it over and read it again.
It stated, plainly, he was fucked.
More alarmingly, it stated, chillingly, Mac was in danger.
This was a problem more than it was already a colossal motherfucking problem.
Any other one of his girls, he’d pick up the phone to Lee Nightingale, the man behind Nightingale Investigations, the commander of the baddest badass motherfuckers in Denver. He’d hand over this letter and he’d get this problem solved.
But Mac was Charlotte McAlister, Jet McAlister Chavez’s little sister. Jet was married to Eddie Chavez. Eddie was Lee’s best friend. And Jet worked for Indy, Lee’s wife, the Queen of the Rock Chicks, and thus Jet Chavez was a bona fide Rock Chick.
Mac might not be a card-carrying member of the Rock Chicks, mostly because she had a job where she worked nights, the time those crazy bitches instigated the most fucked-up of their varying antics. Though they weren’t averse to mornings and afternoons. It was just that the stun-gunnings, kidnappings and the like mostly took place at night, and Mac was busy then.
She was still a Rock Chick, or at least she was by association.
Considering the Rock Chick link and the blood ties to Jet, if Lee knew Mac was in danger, he’d tear the town apart to put a stop to it.
And Eddie…
Now Eddie, Smithie didn’t even want to think about it. The man was a cop. The shit Lee and his boys did with flair and a flagrant disregard to just about anything, Eddie could not do.
But Eddie wouldn’t blink at doing whatever he had to do to make his sister-in-law safe.
And the man had mouths to feed.
So yeah.
This was a problem even more than it already was a colossal motherfucking problem because Smithie couldn’t call Lee.
Which meant Smithie had to find a different set of badasses to deal with it.
His first call would normally be the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Mac wasn’t one of theirs, neither was Smithie, but they had ties to Lee, they could keep a secret, and they didn’t dick around when it came to women and their safety.
But they’d just come out of a war, and like any war, that had been some serious fucked-up shit.
They needed a breather.
Lee, and Chaos, also had ties to…
“Well, hell,” Smithie muttered, the words on the letter blurring, the sick feeling in the back of his throat easing.
He dropped the letter and picked up his cell.
If you couldn’t call a badass…
Then it was far from second best to call a commando.

3.25 stars

This was a pretty good read for me. Quiet Man is Lottie, Jet's sister/stripper and calender queen, and Mo's, one of Hawk's commandos, book. Lottie has not had luck finding love and has decided to give up and focus on her dream of becoming a mother via a sperm donor. But Smithie convinces her that she has time and should wait a year before going that route. In the meantime, she has a crazy stalker who is writing threatening letters to Smithie about her. Smithie hires her round the clock protection, through Hawk's commando company, and she is assigned Mo. He is the strong silent type, but as they spend all their time together, the two fall for each other and Lottie gets her much longed for HEA.

This was not a bad story, but I never fully connected with this book. Lottie and Mo were fine characters, but they didn't have strong personalities and were very similar to many other KA characters. It felt like Lottie just decided he would be the one for her. She pursues him. I don't think he would have pursued her otherwise. It was instalove but I never felt it. There was not much chemistry and I didn't really feel them falling in love. The book also did not have much tension and was mostly one note. The stalker/suspense storyline was very vague and not suspenseful at all, with it mainly being a catalyst for Mo and Lottie spending time together. Some of the timelines felt wonky. For example, Mo is not a manwhore, but one month before he met Lottie, he broke up with a woman who he was dating/living with for two years. Since then he has slept with two others too. I didn't love that. I also found the book a little slow moving and the much of dialogue felt forced and unnatural.

Still, this was a pretty entertaining read. The story was interesting and I really like the set up for the new Dream Girl series. Lottie sets up Mo's friends/fellow commandos with her stripper friends. I think the new series hold promise, especially the first book, Dream Maker, with the heroine, Evie. She sounds like a different kind of KA character, not a clone, as an engineering student/genius/self-described nerd/stripper. So I'm looking forward to that.

Overall, this was an easy, sweet read. While, Quiet Man is not my favorite KA book, but I still found it entertaining in general. I have hopes that the new series will be even better!

  About KRISTEN ASHLEY:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning. Nothing’s changed. Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Lost in You teaser 4

Excerpt:

He led Ariel out. Down the hall he saw Dante outside the media room, a beer in his hand. He’d been turned toward the kitchen at the opposite end of the hall, as though he’d been standing there staring at it. Had he been listening to the happy couples? There was something dark in Dante that always gave him pause. Dante turned without a word and disappeared behind the doors where he would likely drink himself to sleep. It seemed to be the way he and Sasha operated. But he wasn’t thinking about that tonight. Tomorrow would be soon enough to sit everyone down and talk about the problems they were having. He would get Jax on the phone. He wasn’t leaving him out because he was in London. “Are you all right?” Ariel had stopped beside him. “Is Dante giving you trouble?” He was glad she’d been upstairs when they’d gone on their rant. “I think the pressure is starting to get to him. But we can talk about that tomorrow. I think after we get back to London we should have a big group meeting and get some things out in the open.” “They think Damon and Ian are keeping things from them?” No. He did not want to go there. He stopped in the middle of the hall and got into her personal space. She backed up against the wall and he loomed over her. It was time to move from reality to a place where they might be able to play out a few fantasies, if she was ready. “No work talk. If you want to go to sleep, I’ll kiss you now and see you in the morning. Tucker and I are in the room next to you. If you need anything I’ll be there. If you aren’t tired and you want to talk some more, we can go down to the bar and have another glass of wine with the full knowledge we don’t have to go any further than that. I’m more than willing to sit up talking to you all night long.” She tilted her head up to him. “And if I want to go to bed but not to sleep?” His heart rate ticked up, blood starting to thrum through his system as he invaded further, brushing his chest against hers. He reached for her wrists and gently brought them up and over her head, pinning her to the wall. “Then we need to make a few things clear.” She took a deep breath, her lips curling up as though she liked the way he smelled. “Me sub, you Dom. Got it.” He leaned over. “Hey, I’m trying to make sure I take care of you the way you like to be taken care of. I’ve watched you play. I don’t think your play partners realized how much you like being dominated. I think they view you as a woman who enjoys a spanking from time to time. They don’t get how much you need to know your partner is thinking about how to handle you. They don’t understand that you need to stop thinking. You need a place where you obey your partner.” “In their defense, I had no interest in sex with any of them. I was looking for a spanking, some physical play that wouldn’t lead to real intimacy. You watched me?” “I always watch you,” he admitted. “It’s why my brothers insist I’m your stalker. I watch you because I can’t not watch you when you’re in a room. If I thought for a second that it made you uncomfortable, I would make myself stop, but I think you like it.” She watched him, too, and not in a way that made him think she was wary of him. It had always been there between them—the crackle and fire of sexual chemistry. “You’re going to be a talky one, aren’t you?” she asked. And she was going to be a brat.

REVIEW:

4 stars
****

This was a good book! Lost in You is book three of The Forgotten series, a spin-off of the the Masters and Mercenaries series about the Lost Boys. This is Robert and Ariel's story. Robert is one of the Lost boys who had his memory erased by the evil Dr. McDonald several years ago. He has been working for McKay Taggart since then, as they work to find out who they all are, what happened to them and how to restore their memory. Ariel is the psychologist that has worked with their team, but has gradually moved away from treating the Lost boys herself as she has become closer to them, become their friend and has gotten too close to be objective. She and Robert felt a connection and an attraction as soon as they met, have grown closer and are finally ready to give a relationship between them a shot. But nothing is that simple. The group is on a mission in Munich, when things get complicated and dangerous. People from the past show up to threaten their future and no one's lives will ever be the same again.

I really enjoyed this book. This series has been building up to and foreshadowing a big, tragic event that happens in Munich. In this book, we finally know what happened. There is a lot of emotion, excitement and suspense. The story is fast paced and an easy read. I did find the second half of the book to be heavier on the suspense than the romance. I felt like the romantic resolution was kind of vague, but I'm sure we will have more resolution in future books. I really liked Ariel and Robert together and found them a good match. I would have liked a more detailed communication between the couple to feel that all of their issues were resolved. Still, I was okay with how it all worked out.

Overall, Lost in You was a great addition to this exciting, suspenseful, sexy series. This book adds good progress to the ongoing series story arc. I can't wait for more from this series and from Lexi Blake in the future.
