Six Dark Tales. Six Sensual Stories. Six Page Turners.

EASY FOR KEEPS: A Boudreaux Novella by Kristen Proby Adam Spencer loves women. He’s comfortable with his lifestyle and sees no reason to change it. Sarah Cox has just moved to New Orleans, having accepted a position as a social worker. It’s a demanding, sometimes dangerous job, but Sarah can handle just about anything that comes at her, even the attentions of one sexy Adam Spencer. But the more time she spends with the enchanting man, the more he begins to sway her into believing in forever.

UNCHAINED: An Eternal Guardians Novella by Elisabeth Naughton For thousands of years, Prometheus’s only certainty was his daily torture at Zeus’s hand. Now, unchained by the Eternal Guardians, he spends his days in solitude, trying to forget the past. He’s vowed no allegiance in the war between mortal and immortal, but when a beautiful maiden seeks him out and begs for his help, he’s once again powerless to say no. Soon, Prometheus is drawn into the very conflict he swore to avoid.

HARD TO SERVE: A Hard Ink Novella by Laura Kaye When Internal Affairs investigates Detective Kyler Vance as part of the new police commissioner’s bid to oust corruption, everything is on the line. Mia Breslin’s career is golden. Now if only she could find a man to dominate her nights and set her body—and her heart—on fire. When a scorching scene with a hard-bodied, brooding Dom at Blasphemy promises just that, Mia is lured to serve Kyler again and again.

DRAGON FEVER: A Dark Kings Novella by Donna Grant Rachel Marek intends to expose the truth about dragons to the world – and her target is within sight. Nothing matters but getting the truth, especially not the ruggedly handsome, roguishly thrilling Highlander who oozes danger and charm. Asher is more than just a man. He’s a Dragon King – a being who has roamed this planet since the beginning of time. With everything on the line, Asher must choose to trust an enemy in the form of an all too alluring woman whose tenacity and passion captivate him.

BENEATH THESE SHADOWS by Meghan March The only permanent thing in my life is the ink I put on my clients. I drift from city to city, in and out of beds, from one tattoo shop to the next. Every time I start to put down roots, I rip them up. Until New Orleans. Until her. She’s everything I’m not. Full of fire and life. An innocent where I’m a sinner. I want to consume her. Protect her. Keep her. But first, I have to escape from beneath these shadows.

BEFORE I FALL: A Falling Novel by Jessica Scott Beth Lamont knows too much about the harsh realities of life. She’ll do whatever it takes to take care of her father, even if that means tutoring a guy like Noah. Noah Warren doesn’t know how to be a student. All he knows is war. But he’s going to college now to fulfill a promise and he doesn’t break his promises. Except he doesn’t count on his tutor being drop dead gorgeous.

Every Dark Nights tale is breathtakingly sexy and magically romantic.

MY REVIEW:

4 stars overall! A good little collection of novellas and novels!

Easy for Keeps by Kristen Proby - 3.5 stars

This is Sarah and Adam's story. Sarah is a widow, a single mom, and a social worker in New Orleans. Adam runs a bar in the French Quarter and lives the bachelor life. He has no plans to ever get married or settle down. One day, Sarah's daughter, Hailey, got lost in the grocery store and Adam helped her find her mom. Sarah's car ran out of battery and Adam gives her a ride to work. Adam. Hailey leaves her stuffed bear in Adam's car by accident. So Sarah has to go to his bar to get it back. Sparks fly. He asks her out, which leads to a casual relationship. It turns into something deeper quickly and they fall in love.

This novella started off on a little bit of a rough foot. When Sarah meets Adam she is kind of a bitch, which doesn't fit with her character for the rest of the book. But she was having a bad day and she does apologize later. I ended up really liking Sarah and Adam. They were both great characters and were sexy and sweet together. They were both mature and there were no silly miscommunication or pushing away. Adam was great with Hailey too. I have read and enjoyed another book by this author, but this novella was even better. This was an enjoyable, quick and easy read!

Unchained by Elisabeth Naughton - 3 stars

This novella was only okay for me. It is novella from the Eternal Guardian's series. I have not read this series and I think it is necessary to read the series to understand all of the world building and relationships at play. I didn't really love either Prometheus or Circe. They were both just okay characters for me and the story was just okay too. I probably would have enjoyed the novella more if I had read the series first.

Hard to Serve by Laura Kaye - 3.75-4 stars

This novella was a re-read for me. I had previously read this book in June, 2016. Here is my review from that time:

This was a really good novella! It is the first book in Laura Kaye's new BDSM series, Blasphemy. This is the story of Kyler Vance. He was in the Hard Ink series and he was shot. He is recovering from that and is on desk duty at his job as a cop. He is also being investigated by internal affairs for the incident in which he was shot. He is innocent of any wrong doing, but he is stressed and just trying to get back to his normal life. In his normal life, he is also a Master and part owner at Blasphemy, a BDSM club. During his first night back, he meets Mia. Mia has just moved to town a few months ago to be closer to her father, who is the police commissioner, and is trying out Blasphemy to see if it is a fit for her. She has been in the lifestyle for years, but hasn't found a long term relationship like she wanted. Kyler is attracted to Mia, but he only does one night hookups at the club. But they have great chemistry and find it hard to stay away from each other. Kyler doesn't know Mia's dad is his boss and once he does find out, things get tricky for them. But everything works out in the end.

I have read Ms. Kaye's romantic suspense Hard Ink series. I enjoyed that series but there is a lot going on. I liked this book more because it's focused on the couple. I liked the BDSM aspect and I felt like it was done well. I liked Mia and Kyler a lot. Kyler pushed Mia away because of his misgivings about her father and his job. But she was strong, and while she was hurt, she did her best to not dwell and to try to move on. I was glad that she didn't beg or wait around for Kyler to change his mind. He had to be the one to realize love was worth the risk and come to her for forgiveness. I felt like they were a good match. The club and the side characters there intrigue me and I see a lot of potential. I'm really looking forward to more from this series!

Dragon Fever by Donna Grant - 4 stars

This was my first time reading a book by this author and I really enjoyed it! This novella is from the Dark Kings series, which is a dragon shifter series. This is Rachel and Asher's story. Asher is one of the ancient dragon kings of Scotland. He is in Paris for a convention concerning the whiskey company that he helps run with his fellow kings. Rumors of the dragon kings existence have surfaced with the public. Rachel is a journalist who is trying to get close to Asher to find out the truth. It doesn't hurt that Asher is hot with a Scottish brogue. When they meet sparks fly and the truth comes out. Rachel gives up her quest for a news story to find love with Asher.

This was a good novella! I easily understood the world building. I really enjoyed the dragon shifters and the Scottish aspect. Rachel and Asher were super hot together. Asher was a sexy alpha and sweet and Rachel was strong and sweet too. This author was new to me and I'm glad to find a whole back library to catch up on!

Beneath these Shadows by Meghan March  - 4 stars

This is a full-length book. I have read a few books from this series but it has been awhile. This was the best one so far and I was pleasantly surprised! This is Bishop and Eden's story. Eden's father is a mob boss in NYC. She has led a very sheltered, controlled life there. But something happens with her father that requires Eden to go on the run and hide out. She heads to a place she has always dreamed of visiting, New Orleans. There she meets Bishop, a tattoo artist, and a whole new group of friends. Bishop is drawn to her innocence and beauty, but her naivety in the big city gets her into trouble, which infuriates him. He decides to help her and they fall in love. But Eden's past comes back to haunt her, threatening their happily ever after. Everything turns out in the end though.

I really liked both Bishop and Eden. Bishop was the strong, silent type. He was not a manwhore, even though women threw themselves at him, which was refreshing. Eden was innocent and sweet. I really loved the New Orleans setting and everything involved in that aspect. I loved that there was no big blow up or miscommunication/pushing away. This book was just a really easy read, sweet, sexy and a little suspenseful. I really enjoyed it and look forward to catching up on this series!
Overall, this book is great collection of stories and I really enjoyed it!

About the 1001 Dark Nights: Bundle Eleven Authors-

Kristen Proby was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years. During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list. Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series. Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.

Elisabeth Naughton is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Elisabeth: “I was never one of those people who knew they wanted to be an author at the age of six. I didn’t have imaginary friends. I didn’t write stories in my journal or entertain my relatives by firelight after Thanksgiving dinner. For the most part, I was just a normal, everyday kid. I liked to read, but I wasn’t exceptional at it. And when my teachers complimented me on my writing abilities, I brushed them off. I did, however, always have a penchant for the unique and absurd. And as my mother told me all throughout my childhood, I should have been an actress—I was a drama queen before my time. “Years ago, my husband bought me Scarlett: The Sequel to Gone With The Wind. If you ever saw the book, you know it’s a long one. I sat and read that thing from cover to cover, and dreamed of one day being a writer. But I didn’t actually try my hand at writing until years later when I quit my teaching job to stay home with my kids. And my husband? After that week of reading where I neglected him and everything else until I finished Scarlett, he vowed never to buy me another book again. Little did he know I’d one day end up sitting at a keyboard all day drafting my own stories. “My writing journey has not been easy. I didn’t just sit down one day, decide I was going to write a book and voila! sell my very first attempt. As most authors will probably agree, the path to publication is filled with hours of work, pulling all-nighters I thought I’d given up in college, sacrifices, rejections, but a love I discovered along the way I just can’t live without. Instead of a big, thick book to read by lamplight (I do read much smaller ones when I get the chance), I’ve traded in my reading obsession for a laptop. And I’ve never been happier. “I’m one of the lucky ones. I have a wonderful family and fabulous husband who put up with my writing—and obsessive personality—even when life is chaotic. More than once my kids have been late to swimming or baseball because I needed just five more minutes to finish a scene. Their support and encouragement mean the world to me. I also have amazing friends and a support network I couldn’t survive without. So to all of you out there who have encouraged me along the way, sent me emails and fan letters, phone calls and congratulations, I just want to say, thank you. You make this whole writing gig that much more enjoyable. I truly wouldn’t be here without you.”
