I haven’t always been this bad… Up until recently, I was the kind of girl who wore white cotton panties and bent at the knees rather than the waist. Pomp and circumstance changed all that. Jaxson Cassidy was my first taste of bad, and I liked it more than I should have. Just not in the way I was meant to. I couldn’t help myself though. I found him irresistible. That sexy grin, those skilled fingers, and that dirty, dirty mouth were a lethal combination. I wasn’t supposed to want him. I wasn’t supposed to let him put his hands on me. I wasn’t supposed to do a lot of things…but I did. He wants to keep me close. I should push him away. He says he can help me. I’m not so sure. For some reason, he thinks there’s good left in me. What if he’s wrong? Everyone knows a good boy can’t turn a bad girl around. Everyone knows it’s always the other way. Everyone…except him.

Review:

This was a good book. This is Sadie and Jaxson's book. Sadie is having a rough time. She lost her job as a magazine writer/blogger when her assistant used a stock photo of a random hot guy without permission going against the company rules. Then she goes home to pack up belongings of her beloved "uncle"/family friend who recently passed away and gets into a serious mess when she has an accident. Without getting into too much detail and spoiling it, that night leads to a series of events, forcing her to do something she never wanted to do. As luck would have it, she runs into that random hot guy from the stock photo, who turns out to be Jaxson. He is a up and coming photographer on his way to shoot the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition photoshoot in the Carribean. Fate throws the two of them together. Sadie ends up running from her problems. and running into Jaxson on a tropical island. He can see how messed up Sadie is and vows to help her. They start to fall for each other and with Jaxson's help, she is able to face her problems by going back home to take responsibility for her actions.

This book was a slow started for me. The first third of the book seemed like a series of a bunch of random events. Too much was going on and I couldn't make sense of it. I wasn't drawn into the story because I had very little idea what was going on and wasn't sure I liked the characters. I think the story took too long to hook me in, but I'm glad I hung in there. The pieces started to come together in a way that was pretty genius. After that, I couldn't put it down. The book was pretty angsty and I don't normally love really angsty books, but I didn't mind the angst factor here.

I liked Jaxson and Sadie, even though they were both flawed characters. Jaxson was closed off and hurt from the past, when his ex-fiance dumped him. He has vowed off women after that. Sadie also has some serious baggage from her past. Her father was an alcoholic, her mother was murdered by a lover, her father went to prison and then died at sea right after he got out. Sadie's own accident that got her into this mess really messed her up even more and plagued her with guilt. Several times she drank too much as an escape and did impulsive, not very smart things. I was surprised she let herself drink so much because, as the child of an alcoholic, she claimed she never drank more than one or two drinks. She didn't follow that rule here and it got her into trouble. The 12 AA steps were listed in the book verbatim, even. Still, together, they both started to heal from their pasts. Jaxson learned to trust again. Once he made up his mind that he wanted a future with Sadie, he never wavered and he went after what he wanted. I definitely felt the connection between the two of them.

This book was not a very light book, unlike most of Kim Karr's books that I have read. It deals with some heavy subjects, like alcoholism, murder, stealing, etc. It was emotional, suspenseful, with some hot sexy times and great chemistry. The book was engrossing and un-put-downable. It does end at 89%, so be aware of that. Overall, I definitely recommend this book. It left me with the best kind of book hangover. I look forward to more from Kim Karr in the future!
