Just five months ago, Valentine O'Dell started working at a very special kind of nightclub – one where you can dance the night away, or live out your greatest fantasy. She's learned to lose herself to her nights, forgetting all her day time woes as she charms every man she meets. It's easy enough to do when she doesn't let her feelings get involved.

Then Ari Sharapov walks in and changes everything.

Working for his father's law firm has left Ari with very little control over his life, so when he sees Valentine for the first time, he sees a girl who is desperate for someone to take care of her. To take over her. So what he can't get for himself in the day time, he'll simply take for himself at night. But when power struggles lead to real feelings, who's actually controlling whom?

Some relationships are better left in the dark.

This was a good book! What We Do in the Night is book one in the Day to Night duet. This is the beginning of Valentine and Ari's story. Valentine lives a double life. During the day, she cares for her elderly grandmother, lives with her and goes to college for fashion design. At night, she works in the exclusive underground club, Cache. The club is fantasy world for adults, with adventure, excitement, games, drugs, sex... you name it you can get it at Cache. Val works as an escort there. She hosts clients there for money and shows them the time of their lives to pay her and her grandmothers bills. (She does not sleep with her clients) Ari is a rich, arrogant lawyer. He comes to Cache with some friends and meets Val. They have immediate chemistry, Ari decides he wants Val to work for him exclusively, doing what she does at Cache for him for two weeks. Val is reluctant but the money he offers her would help her so much to pay her bills. So Ari and Val begin a paid relationship of sorts, which leads to feelings (and denial of those feelings) on both parts, and the situation blows up in their faces.

I really enjoyed this book. I adored Valentine. She was relatable and her problems were easy to sympathize with. She was an awesome heroine- funny, strong, not a bitch, sweet and vulnerable. I liked Ari too. He could be a jerk, but he wasn't too bad. He wasn't cold or unfeeling. Ari had a lot of pressure at work and from his father. He needed Val to lighten up his life and give him what he needed. It was obvious these two were perfect for each other. They had great chemistry, matching kinks, but also humor and a true connection. They were falling in love, despite trying not to, because it didn't fit into their life plans. Ari makes a mistake by saying something he didn't mean which Val overhears. He knows he screwed up. There is a cliffhanger, but I didn't think it was awful. I have faith that Ari and Val are meant to be and can work everything out between them.

Overall, this was a good book! Sexy, a little suspenseful and totally addictive. I enjoyed seeing Ari and Val's story develop. I really liked these two as a couple and I look forward to the next book and conclusion to their story!

*Just a safety FYI- Ari does have a girlfriend at the beginning of the book, but breaks up with her quickly. She is in Val's college class and is a huge bitch, especially to her, so there is some drama with that throughout the book. There is no cheating.

Author Bio

Crazy woman from a remote location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ... forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.
