Upcoming Release: Twist by Kylie Scott + Excerpt Reveal

From New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott comes the second sizzling stand-alone novel in the Dive Bar series! When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot bearded bartender Joe Collins only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her. Alex Parks is funny, fascinating, and pretty much everything he's been looking for in a woman—except that she lives across the country. Soon they're emailing up a storm and telling each other their deepest, darkest secrets...except the one that really matters. When Alex pays Joe a surprise visit, however, they both discover that when it comes to love, it's always better with a twist.

Excerpt:

I watched the streetlights cast shadows on the angle of his cheekbone, the furrow of his brow. Strange how his manly beauty had grown on me, redefining or rather stretching my usual boundaries. Perhaps some people’s allure came from the inside out. A good thing. Their ways and their words did the wooing instead of their physical appeal. Not to diss Joe’s impressive physique. As nice as a pretty face was, though, the personality, the person beneath the skin, should matter more. Anything else was pretty shallow and unlikely to last. Guess that was the difference between my scratching an itch with a stranger and the way this man had me tied up in knots. And not even neat, sea-worthy knots. I’m talking, haven’t washed or brushed your hair in forever and there’s a big old mess back there. Shit. At the bar, he’d flirted with me. Full-on flirted with me, his supposed platonic friend who was not his type. No way did I know what to do. Normally Valerie would be first on my hit list of people to call. But she’d just tell me to jump him, regardless of what else was going on, or any possible consequences. Plus, with him beside me it would be kind of uncool. But a couple of whisky sours or no, I was pretty certain I hadn’t imagined his interest. As Mom had always said, however, best to be sure. “What are the renovating plans for tomorrow?” I asked. “Rip out the old fittings and prepare the space for new.”   I nodded. “So we’ll be doing some pounding and screwing?” “Ah, yeah.” The man cast me a look out of the corner of his eye. “Sound okay?” “Absolutely. Can’t wait to get my hands back on that big hard hammer.” “Great,” he said, throwing me another questioning look. I gave a nice bland smile. Yeah, pal. Two could play at the what-the-fuck-is-going-on flirting game. I turned in my seat, all the better to face him. “Did you want to bang, Joe?” “What did you say?” Wide eyes flashed my way. “Like I did on that wall today. That was fun,” I said with all due sincerity. “Will we be doing more of that?” A pause. “Sure.” “Awesome.” Another quizzical look. “Something wrong?” I inquired politely. “No.” His Adam’s apple dipped as he swallowed hard, shifting in his seat, gaze decidedly unsure. The poor fool couldn’t begin to understand the crazy he’d unleashed with his little taunt. Get rough with the man? My starved libido was well beyond the rough-and-tumble stage. No more hiding or denying, sticking to the sidelines of life. It was my time to step forward and be brave. When it came to Joe Collins, I was more than ready to say yes. “I just . . .” he started. “Never mind.” Neither of us spoke as he pulled into a parking space a short walk down from the hotel. I leaned over, placing my hand on his denim-covered thigh. The muscle tensed beneath my fingers. Shame on me for straying a little close to his loins. “Thanks so much for tonight, Joe. I’m so glad we decided to be friends. Because you, sir, make a great friend.” “Right. Good.” A frown. “How much did you have to drink again?” “Not nearly enough. Quick, let’s get to my hotel room so I can have more!” I threw open my door. “Okay.” Hands stuffed in his pockets, he followed me inside, lingering a step or two behind. Guess he didn’t like it when people’s moods got all mixed up and mercurial either. Funny, that. I nodded to the dude at the front desk and pressed the button on the elevator. It opened immediately. Mirrors and old-timeylooking wooden framing decorated the small space. We both leaned against the back wall as it slowly ascended. “Yeah, sure can’t wait to do some banging, and pounding, and screwing around with you, Joe.” I smiled. “Sound good?” He just gave me a dry look from his superior height. All confusion gone from his handsome face. Confined spaces only made him seem bigger, even more imposing than usual. No way, no day, however, was I crawling back into my shell or turning into a shadow. We’d agreed to work on our issues, so fine, I was putting it out there. Still, my bravado was fading, I could barely meet his eyes. The man affected me in all the ways. “It’s hard, no pun intended this time, because sometimes it feels like you want to be just friends,” I said. “But then other times you flirt with me and I honestly don’t know what’s going on. No huge surprise there, I know. Social awkwardness is my jam. But I thought I mostly understood where you were coming from.” A ding from the elevator and the doors opened at our stop. I walked out, his bearded hotness following slowly behind, stalking me almost. For certain his usual cool, easy-going-guy persona was missing in action. The man radiated tension, intensity, even. And if he didn’t, I definitely did. Inside the hotel room I went for mood lighting, only turning on the table and bedside lamps. I rubbed sweaty hands against the sides of my pants. “What you said back at the bar about me getting rough with you, however. Now, that almost sounded like a dare.” “Did it?” “It did.” Arms hanging loose at his sides, he just watched me, saying nothing. Jerk. “So tell me.” I stood at the foot of the bed, facing him. Every part of me was wired, wide awake. “What’s going on, Joe?” His shoulders rose and fell on a deep breath. “I realized something tonight.” “What?” “That I was falling into old habits. Doing what was easy instead of doing what I wanted.” “Huh?” “It was just before you spilled ice on that guy’s pants.” “Sure. I can see how you’d be seduced by my smooth moves,” I said, voice filled with much doubt. My insides were ready to spontaneously combust. I swear I could feel sweat breaking out all over me, the man was just that hot. Also, my nerves were on high alert. One corner of his lips tipped up. “You know how you said you weren’t jealous?” “Yes?” “Well, I was.” Wow. I had nothing. “This is the part where you’re supposed to admit you were jealous too,” he supplied. “I didn’t think it needed to be said. I’m not that good a liar.” “True,” he said. “Anyway, I made the pass at you and then I was leaving it up to you to figure out what you want. To be brave and make the next move.” Softly, I laughed and shook my head. Men were such idiots. “Make the first move? This isn’t a game. As I said last time the subject of sex came up, previous hurt feelings, etc. It’s going to get complicated.” “Yeah, probably,” he said, voice deeper than I’d ever heard it.

Review Tour: Take Me Back by Meghan March

About the book:

We fell in love on a beach, got married in paradise, and I carried her off into the sunset. It should have been perfect, but saying “I do” doesn’t guarantee a happily-ever-after. Two years later, I barely recognize either of us behind the walls we’ve built. It’s time to bring it full circle. Back to a tropical paradise. Back to find out if we can still make this work. I’m not willing to give her up, but to save us, I have to risk everything. Two damaged people. Countless secrets. The fight of our lives. We might be broken, but we’re not done.

My Review:

4 stars
****

This was a good book! I had no idea what I was getting into other than the fact that this was a book about a married couple, Kat and Dane, trying to rekindle their relationship and save their marriage. Don't read spoilers, please! Let yourself be surprised. I promise the payoff is worth it! I'm so glad I went into it blind and I'm not going to spoil it for you either. So I'll keep this review short and sweet.

I loved Kat and Dane. They were an awesome couple and totally hot together. I could identify all to well with how they let themselves drift apart. They were both sure that they wanted to stay together, but they were both afraid that they had let things go too far to make their way back to each other. Both had secrets that they must confess but their love for each other won out in the end. They both adored each other and weren't willing to give up. The beautiful island paradise of Belize was the perfect setting to work things out with each other, too.

This book is exciting, sexy and a wild, adventurous trip for Kat and Dane. I really loved seeing how their relationship developed. It was at times angsty (but not too angsty), sweet and emotional. This is a really cute epilogue too. I would love if this book is the start of a new series, featuring some of the side characters introduced too. Overall, I definitely recommend this book!

Paperback Release and New Cover Reveal: Three Wishes by Kristen Ashley +Excerpt

THREE WISHES is now available in paperback for the first time! This heartwarming and epic love story from New York Times bestselling author, Kristen Ashley, returns with an amazing new cover!

And that’s not all!

THREE WISHES is being re-released in eBook form with beautiful, new formatting! So make a wish, grab your copy, and prepare to fall in love all over again!

When Lily Jacobs was born, she inherited Fazire – a genie. Her family had three wishes and they’d only ever used one so Fazire was stuck in the human world. This worked since he’d become a member of the family anyway.
Even with a genie, Lily's young life wasn’t perfect. To escape the kids making her miserable at school, Lily buried herself in romance novels. One day, when the teasing was just too much, she used one of her wishes. She told Fazire she wanted to find a man like in her books and she made the most complicated wish Fazire had ever heard. Her wished-for man had to be impossibly handsome, virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless (amongst a dozen other things).
He also had to think she was beautiful and he had to love her more than anything in the world.
Nathaniel McAllister wasn’t born to a life where there were such things as genies granting wishes. His life was filled with drugs, crime and neglect. He was running errands for a gangster before he was in his teens and, even though life and hard work led him to wealth and respectability, he always knew, deep down, he was dirty. When Nate met Lily he knew he was no good for her but as virile, fierce, rugged and ruthless as he was, Nate was no match for the pull of sweet, innocent Lily.
Unfortunately, Lily’s wish included that she and her hero go through trials and tribulations to test their love. And Fazire wasn’t only a good genie, he loved Lily – so he gave her exactly what she wanted.

  EXCERPT:

Nate didn’t know what he wanted but whatever it was, it certainly was not Georgia. He was saved from answering Victor when he spied a youth wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, the hood worn up even though it was a warm day. The boy was slouching down the pavement, head bowed, hands in the front pocket of the sweatshirt, his head swinging this way and that, looking for his mark. Nate’s guard, already on alert—always on alert—went into overdrive. Nate’s eyes narrowed as he watched the youth, and Victor started to get into the Rolls. Then, as expected, the boy darted toward his target and Nate heard a woman’s outraged cry. “Hey!” she yelled. He watched the boy snatch the woman’s purse, his body tensing for action. And then his eyes moved to the woman and uncharacteristically, he froze. “Hey! He stole my purse! Stop him! He stole my purse!” she shouted. Nate vaguely registered she was an American tourist. Nate also absently noticed that no one moved to assist. In that brief moment in time, Nate was too busy drinking in the vision that was her, he himself didn’t move a muscle. She was tall, incredibly tall. And curvy, delectably curvy. She had the most unusual colored hair. Hair that he knew from vast experience living in a house with Laura and Danielle for years came through a supremely talented and expensive stylist’s hands. And she had an exquisite face, flawless skin and a bearing that was extraordinary. She had been given a wide berth around her even on the crowded pavement. Not because she was screaming her head off but instead because she was majestic, radiant, elegant… Untouchable. In a stupor from simply looking at her, the boy with her purse charged right by Nate. Not in a stupor, she realized no one was going to help her, gave up screaming and charged right after the boy. At the noise, Victor turned away from the car and Nate shifted to watch in astonishment as she deftly and agilely dodged the crowd, her long legs a match for the short boy. Then Nate watched in stunned surprise as she jumped onto the thief’s back with a graceful leap. Everyone stared in shock but no one lifted a finger except a few started to take photographs. “Give me back my purse, you thug!” she shouted. Wrapping her long legs around her prey, one arm around his neck, she slapped him around the head with the other hand. The thief staggered back then he staggered with intent and slammed her against the side of the building. Her head snapped back and cracked against the stone so loudly Nate could hear it from where he stood twenty paces away. At the sound Nate jerked out of his stupor and forged forward.

About Kristen Ashley: Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning. Nothing's changed. Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Review: Avenged by Jay Crownover

Avenged
by Jay Crownover

4 stars
****

This novella was so freaking hot! Avenged is a Mackenzie Family novella by Jay Crownover, set in Liliana Hart's Mackenzie Kindle World. This is Echo and Benny's story. Benny is a recovering bad boy from The Point (Jay's Point series) and Echo is the best friend of deceased Zeb's son's mother (from Jay's Saints of Denver series). Benny is in hiding in a cabin the wilderness of Surrender, Montana. He was imprisoned for his crimes, and almost killed, before turning state's witness and informing on his fellow criminals in The Point. The Feds have him stashed there until he can testify. Echo comes crashing into his life when her car literally crashes off the side of the road near his cabin. She has come to Montana seeking revenge for her sister's death. When she wrecks her car and is injured, Ben rescues her and they spend a few days together snowed into his one room cabin during a blizzard. They find they have an instant connection and some off-the-charts chemistry. Neither want to part from each other, but it takes some time and work before they can figure out how they can be together for good.

I highlighted most of this novella as there were so many good parts. Everything I read by Jay Crownover gets better and better. I have always been a fan, but I love each new release more than the last. This novella was no exception. My only complaint was that I wanted more of Echo and Benny together in their everyday life. I know they will last and be happy together, but I'm greedy and I wanted more. I know it's a novella though and it was a pretty long one, so I was still happy with how everything worked out. Echo and Benny are an awesome pair. They were both great characters in their own right, with lots of layers. I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop from strangers to lovers. I loved them together and their chemistry was combustible. Jay can write an sizzling sexy scene, that's for sure! There is a shower scene that nearly set my kindle on fire. They both had some baggage from the past to get over, but it all worked out in the end.

Overall, I really enjoyed this novella! I read several other from this series and this one was my favorite. I liked how Echo and Benny tied back to Jay's other series and that there weren't too many other characters from the Mackenzie world to confuse me (unlike some of the other novellas from this Kindle world series). I am looking forward to more awesome books from Jay Crownover!

  A Letter from Liliana Hart:

  Dear Readers,
I’m thrilled to announce the MacKenzie Family World is returning! I asked four of my favorite authors to create their own characters and put them into the world you all know and love. These amazing authors revisited Surrender, Montana, and through their imagination you’ll get to meet new characters, while reuniting with some of your favorites. These stories are hot, hot, hot and packed with action and adventure—exactly what you’d expect from a MacKenzie story. It was pure pleasure for me to read each and every one of them and see my world through someone else’s eyes. They definitely did the series justice, and I hope you discover four new authors to put on your auto-buy list. Make sure you check out Spies and Stilettos, a brand new, full-length MacKenzie novel written by me. This will be the final installment of the MacKenzie series, featuring Brady Scott and Elena Nayal. After eighteen books of my own and nine books written by other bestselling authors in the MacKenzie World, it’s going to be difficult to say goodbye to a family I know as well as my own. Thank you for falling in love with the MacKenzies. So grab a glass of wine, pour a bubble bath, and prepare to Surrender.

EXCERPT:

When I finally plucked up a bit of courage, I peeped out of the curtains to see Kieran throwing stones at the window.
“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair,” he mock shouted, when he caught my eye. I opened the window to whisper loudly back at him.
“Are you high?” I asked. “Why didn’t you just ring the doorbell or call me?”
“I thought this would be more romantic,” he said.
“If I ignore the fact that my nipples probably have frostbite, I am feeling romanced,” I replied. He looked pained. “What’s wrong?” I asked.
“You said ‘nipples’ and now I can’t think of anything else,” he replied, making me smile.
“Now I’m down here, what’s the chances of seeing an accidental nip slip?” he asked.
“Depends,” I replied.
“On what?” he asked.
“What’s in the bag?” I said.
“Hot chocolate and warm doughnuts,” he said, holding up the bag as if to barter.
“Well, I would have said slim to none, but fresh doughnuts might have just tipped the odds in your favour,” I replied.
“Yesss!” he said, fist bumping the air in victory.
I closed the window and ran to buzz him in. He bounded up the stairwell, his heavy footsteps echoing loudly in the hallway. When he got to my door, he looked me up and down, taking in my short royal blue, silk pyjamas. Dropping the sack, he speared his hands into my hair and pulled me into a kiss that had me melting. Kier didn’t kiss with just his lips; he did it with his whole body. Without shoes on, I was tiny in comparison, but inside of the cage of his huge arms, I felt protected and safe. Despite his size, his lips were so gentle. He didn’t treat me like I was fragile, but like I was precious, as though every touch was one that he was experiencing for the first time and memorizing for later.
Feeling bold, I traced the seam of his mouth with my tongue, and when he parted his lips and touched his tongue against mine, I groaned. Every sensation was too much, and not enough. Breathless, he pulled away from me to nuzzle his face in the crook of my neck. I reached up and gently stroked the short hair at the back of his neck, making him sigh.

With his need to take order of a city spiraling out of control, the last thing he wants is an entanglement with a mouthy dispatcher. But, there’s just one problem. He can’t get enough of her.

As the heat rises between the unlikely pair, so does the tension.

Three months of summer was all it took to shake their foundations, rattle their walls, and bring them crashing down.

It was lust.

It was love.

It was real.

And it would have been perfect . . . if it wasn't already over.

Note to reader: This book has several elements and explores topics that some may consider triggers. For mature audiences only. Explicit sex, violence and language.

This is a good book! This book is a spin off of the Balls in Play series, featuring April's friends Michelle and Rowdy. But it is totally different than those romantic comedies. It is emotional and angsty, gritty and real, heartfelt and full of heat and passion. It put me through the ringer as a reader and made me think. It took me some time after I finished to clarify my feelings about the book, too.

This is Michelle and Rowdy's story. Michelle works at the 911 call center with April and has become her good friend after moving to town from California. She escaped an abusive marriage and has managed to make a new life for herself after starting over with nothing. She meets Rowdy through April. He is April's best friend who she grew up with. Rowdy is a cop, a good one, but he is tormented from the past trauma of losing his sister and his partner. He doesn't let himself have close relationships because of that. Michelle and Rowdy are attracted to each other, but Rowdy doesn't want to go there with her, even though she is obviously willing. But his restraint can only hold on for so long. They begin a wild, crazy, emotional journey towards love with lots of bumps a long the way. Their reward in love is all the sweeter for the risks they took with their hearts.

Michelle and Rowdy were both good characters. They were very real feeling with real flaws. Michelle was smart, funny and a survivor. She had been through a lot in her past, but still had hope for finding love in the future. She was a big personality, sexy and willing to fight for what she wanted. I liked Michelle right away, but I wasn't sure about Rowdy. He was awfully cocky at first. He came off as a jerk to Michelle at times. It was obvious that he knew Michelle liked him and was eager for his attention. I felt like she needed to play a little harder to get with him so he could be taken down a peg. But after a bit, I came to understand that he did like Michelle and appreciate her after all. He was just afraid. Rowdy was a good man and good at his job, but not very good at relationships because he had spent so long avoiding them. Their relationship is tumultuous and a roller coaster of emotions. They both pushed each other away at different times. It was a times hard to read as they hurt each other. Their chemistry was combustible and their passion could be volatile sometimes too. This book is long and the journey that the couple goes through is emotionally exhausting at times. Rowdy and Michelle's relationship developed slowly and it took a lot of work for them to overcome their pasts and get their HEA. But the reward was worth all the work they put in. They both deserved to find love and be happy. Michelle and Rowdy found they were stronger and better together.

The call center and police work aspect of the story was at times heart-wrenching. It is definitely the
most realistic portrayal of the field I have read in a book. I know Ms. Stewart did extensive research, interviewing law enforcement officers, to be able to write this book. The research paid off in spades. Some of it was hard to read, especially the public's reaction, and at times hate, for police officers. Rowdy was a good cop and it felt so unfair for him to be treated poorly when he put his life on the line every day. The feelings he went through, fear of getting into a relationship so he didn't leave a widow behind if he is killed, and the feelings Michelle went through dispatching him to crime scenes, with her fear of losing him, were very heartfelt and emotional. This book was very eye opening as I have never really put much thought into what being in a relationship with a law enforcement officer must really be like. It definitely made me feel more sympathetic towards those in the profession and their families. I enjoyed the side characters, including catching back up with April, too. As always from Ms. Stewart, I love the Charleston setting and all the little details and places I recognize from living there in the past.

Overall, this was a good read. It was not an easy read, but I enjoyed the emotional journey nonetheless. I definitely look forward to more from Ms. Stewart in the future!

New Release: Take Me Back by Meghan March

We fell in love on a beach, got married in paradise, and I carried her off into the sunset. It should have been perfect, but saying “I do” doesn’t guarantee a happily-ever-after. Two years later, I barely recognize either of us behind the walls we’ve built. It’s time to bring it full circle. Back to a tropical paradise. Back to find out if we can still make this work. I’m not willing to give her up, but to save us, I have to risk everything. Two damaged people. Countless secrets. The fight of our lives. We might be broken, but we’re not done.
