About FALLEN INK

The Montgomery Ink series continues with a spin-off in Colorado Springs, where a familiar Montgomery finds her place in a new tattoo shop, and in the arms of her best friend.
Adrienne Montgomery is finally living her dreams. She’s opened a tattoo shop with her brother, Shep, and two of her cousins from Denver and she’s ready to take the city by storm with her art—as long as she can handle the pressure. When her new neighbors decide her shop isn’t a great fit for the community, however, she’ll have to lean on the one person she didn’t expect to fall for along the way…her best friend.
Mace Knight takes pride in two things: his art and his daughter. He knows he’s taking a risk by starting over in a new shop with the Montgomerys, but the stakes are even higher when he finds himself wanting Adrienne more than he thought possible.
The two fall fast and hard but they know the rules; they can’t risk their friendship, no matter how hot it is between the sheets and how many people try to stand in their way.

REVIEW:

3.25-3.5 stars

This was a pretty good book. This is Adrienne and Mace's friends to lovers story. Adrienne Montgomery has just opened her own tattoo shop with her best friend Mace. They are very close, leaning on each other for everything. The two have been best friends for years, and have secretly been attracted to each other but never acted on it. But now as they spend more time together their attraction has grown and they decide to explore it. Still, there is a lot going on in their lives. Besides the busyness of opening their new shop, there are threats and vandalism to it, as someone wants their shop closed and out of the downtown area as it "brings down the tone of the neighborhood". Also, Mace's ex and mother of his child, who has not let him see his daughter Daisy very much over her four years, abruptly drops her off on his doorstep so that she can move overseas for work. Now Mace is also dealing with being a full time single dad. So they are dealing with all of that along with testing out a relationship and figuring out what their future holds. But somehow it all comes together for them and they get their HEA.

There is a lot going on in this book. The story seemed a bit disorganized. There was a lot of internal angst and worrying about their relationship, but not as much actual time together. There was many side characters from other series by this author, but I felt it was overkill. It confused me to have every single character mentioned, what they were up to, etc., and it just cluttered the story. Sometimes less is more. Also one of the main things that kept me from completely connecting to this book was that there were lots of little time jumps.

I liked Adrienne and Mace in general. Mace did annoy me at times with his immaturity and wishy washy behavior. He made some dumb mistakes with Adrienne. Neither of them came off as people in their late 30s, especially Mace. I didn't feel a ton of chemistry between them, either, and I didn't feel a lot of the emotions and feelings I was being lead to feel. Also, we didn't get to see very much time with Adrienne and Daisy together, but we are told they did spend time together. I would have liked to have seen that. But the story was pretty good and definitely entertaining. I liked the friends to lovers story line and I liked where they ended up together.

Overall, this book was a "liked it", not a "loved it". But I definitely enjoyed the story, despite a few nitpicky things. I like Ms. Ryan's writing. Her characters, stories and sense of family are fun and entertaining. I look forward to more from this author in the future!

Read an Excerpt from FALLEN INK

Mace was making a fucking mistake, and he didn’t care. Adrienne tasted like sin and seduction, and he knew if he stopped kissing her, he’d let his mind wander to what the hell he was doing, and he’d fuck up everything even more. So, he kept kissing her. And then he took it deeper. His fingers tangled in her hair, and she slid her hands up his chest, digging into his flesh. Their moans were lost in the wind and rain outside as it beat down on the bathroom window, and he couldn’t help but explore her mouth. He’d thought about doing this countless times; thought about tasting her, having her. He’d imagined himself licking up her neck and down between her breasts before devouring her everywhere else. He’d thought about how she’d arch into him as he plunged into her, and they’d both come, panting and sweaty. He’d thought about all of it because he’d been attracted to Addi from day one, but had never wanted to hurt their friendship. That was still the case because she was the most important adult in his life, the strongest relationship he had with another person besides Daisy. So why was he still kissing her? Mace was about to pull back when she leaned in closer, her breasts pressing into his chest. And when her hands slid around to his back to cling to him, he knew there would be no getting out of this mistake just then. They’d deal with the consequences later because that’s what they did. They were strong enough to deal with anything, and right then, all he wanted to do was bury himself inside his best friend and never stop. So, he didn’t.
