Six Dark Tales. Six Sensual Stories. Six Page Turners.

ROUGH RHYTHM: A Made In Jersey Novella by Tessa Bailey

Band manager James Brandon never expected to find the satisfaction he’d been chasing, let alone stumble upon it in some sleezy Hollywood meat market. Yet the girl’s quiet pride spoke to him from across the bar. But after losing the grip on his dark desires that one fateful night, James has spent the last four years atoning for letting her down. Rock band drummer Lita Regina has had enough of James’s guilt. She wants the explosive man she met that night in Hollywood. And she’ll stop at nothing to revive him.

DEVOTED: A Masters and Mercenaries Novella by Lexi Blake

Amy Slaten has devoted her life to Slaten Industries. After ousting her corrupt father and taking over the CEO role, she thought she could relax and enjoy taking her company to the next level. But an old business rivalry rears its ugly head. When Flynn Adler realizes the woman he’s falling for is none other than the CEO of the firm he needs to take down, he has to make a choice. Does he take care of the woman he’s falling in love with or the business he’s worked a lifetime to build?

Z: A Demonica Novella by Larissa Ione

Zhubaal has spent decades searching for the angel he loved and lost nearly a century ago. Not even her death can keep him from trying to find her. But as time passes, he’s losing hope… As an emim, Vex has always felt like a second-class citizen. But if she manages to secure a deal with the Grim Reaper she will have earned her place in the world. The only obstacle in the way of her plan is a sexy hardass called Z. Soon it becomes clear that they have a powerful connection rooted in the past…

FALLING UNDER YOU: A Fixed Trilogy Novella by Laurelin Paige

Norma Anders has always prided herself on her intelligence and determination. She climbed out of poverty, put herself through school and is now a chief financial advisor at Pierce Industries. She’s certainly a woman who won’t be topped. Not in business anyway. But she’s pretty sure she’d like to be topped in the bedroom. Unfortunately most men see independence and ambition in a woman and they run. Then the most unlikely candidate steps up. Boyd, her much-too-young and oh-so-hot assistant surprises her one night with bold suggestions and an authoritative demeanor he’s never shown her in the office.

CRAVING HIS COMMAND: A Doms of Genesis Novella by Jenna Jacob

Mercy O’Connor—known as Symoné at Club Genesis—craves the chance to experience true surrender. The only problem is, she’s set her sights on sexy, commanding Sir Justice, who studies her with his dissecting, arousing stare…but never offers to show her his ropes. If Kellan Graham let himself believe in love at first sight, Symoné would own his heart. After having his life ripped apart, he’s spent years inventing ways to resist simple lust, but each time this beautiful submissive turns her pleading eyes to him, she ignites a complicated conflagration of desire Kellan can’t fight.

AMERICAN QUEEN by Sierra Simone

It starts with a stolen kiss under an English sky, and it ends with a walk down the aisle. It starts with the President sending his best friend to woo me on his behalf, and it ends with my heart split in two. It starts with buried secrets and dangerous desires…and ends with the three of us bound together with a hateful love sharper than any barbed wire.

Every Dark Nights tale is breathtakingly sexy and magically romantic.

My Reviews:

Overall, this was a good group of novellas! They were all different and interesting in their own ways. I very much enjoyed this bundle!

Rough Rhythm by Tessa Bailey - 3.5 stars

This was pretty good, but I saw the potential for it to be better. The story was interesting, but there was a lot of time hopping (4 years), which makes it hard for me to connect with the characters in a novella. I didn't really love either the hero or heroine. The couple enjoys rape fantasy play, which was a bit out of my comfort zone. All of the sexy scenes play out as rape fantasies. I personally needed a bit of balance that a scene of regular old lovemaking would have brought. It is mentioned that they do like that too, but it was enough out of my comfort zone that I needed to see firsthand that every time they got together, it wasn't just to act out rapes. These two had a pretty screwed up, almost toxic, relationship for years before this book. The hero was the band manager for the heroine's band. He controlled all aspects of her life and treated her like a child, which caused her to act out and be a brat to get his attention. I felt like their relationship needed a lot of work to be a functional, mature relationship. This was hard to fit into a novella. I felt like between that and the rape play fetish, it was too angsty and complicated to be resolved in a novella. But I did like the novella in general. I love Tessa Bailey's writing. The sexy times were hot and I did feel a connection between the couple. I will continue to read anything Ms. Bailey writes, even though this novella was not a favorite.

Devoted by Lexi Blake- 3.75 stars.

This was a novella from the Masters and Mercenaries series and I really enjoyed it! It was short but still packed the emotional punch that the full length novels from the series do. This was Amy and Flynn's story. Amy is a CEO for her family's company, Slaten Enterprises. She battled her evil father for control of the company and had him ousted. She is recently divorced from her gay best friend, who she married as part of saving her company and merging it with his. Now she is finally ready to get away from the stress of her life and she enters the submissive training program at Sanctum. Flynn owns a larger major rival company of Amy's and he is horrified to know that he has been matched up as a dom to her. He thinks she may be playing him in order to sabotage his company, but she appears to not know who he is. But he is attracted to her and he decides he still wants to work with her at Sanctum, despite the fact that he doesn't know if he can trust her. Amy has no clue who he is and she really likes him. From the beginning they have great chemistry and they spend more and more time together. Flynn realizes that Amy is not playing him pretty quickly, but he is afraid to tell her who he really is. They find themselves falling in love, but drama hits the fan when Amy finds out who he is. She is upset that he lied to her and she thinks he was doing it to bring her company down. But Flynn goes the "grand gesture" route and proves to her that he loves her and will do anything for her. I really liked Flynn and Amy together. They were a sweet couple and I enjoyed watching their relationship develop. Amy is really sweet, somewhat naive and innocent. She doesn't have a lot of experience with men or with relationships. Flynn was swoon-worthy, funny and charming with her. Overall, this was an enjoyable, quick read!

Z by Larissa Ione - 3 stars

This book was not my favorite by Ms. Ione. One of my least favorite romance tropes is the "dead ex" trope. It has to be done really well for me to enjoy the book. That is not exactly the scenario here, but without spoiling the book, it is a similar scenario. I liked Z and Vex. But I felt really bad for Vex. I felt like she deserved someone to love her and appreciate her for her. There was just too many things that bothered me to really love this book. But it was still an enjoyable read. I still enjoy Ms. Ione's writing and the fantastic world she has built as well.

Falling Under You by Laurelin Paige-  3.25- 3.5 stars

This was my first read by Ms. Paige and I enjoyed it. I did feel like the novella started off strong, but it somewhat fizzled out towards the end. The beginning of Norma and Boyd's relationship was really good and emotional, but it was a very slow moving relationship. There were also lots of time jumps, months at a time, that I felt messed up the momentum of the story. I did really enjoy the idea of a female boss being submissive and in a D/s relationship with her male assistant. However, as the story moved on, we saw less and less of Boyd's dominant side, which contributed to the "fizzling out" feeling I had about the novella. I did really enjoy the story, though, and the writing. I definitely felt the connection between the characters. I will try more of Ms. Paige's work in the future.

American Queen by Sierra Simone- 4 stars

I had wanted to read this book when all three books in the trilogy were released so that I could read them back to back. So even though this book was in this bundle, I was not going to read it because only two books in the trilogy were released so far. But... then I decided to read a few pages and I was soon totally sucked in! This was a really good book! This is an MMF story between a woman, the president and the vice president. All three had separate relationships with each other that eventually lead to one relationship between the three of them. Their relationships were complicated, messy, emotional and very sexy. I loved the King Arthur references and all of Sierra Simone's religious references. It was a little hard to believe that the men loved Greer as much as they loved each other, because they loved each other first and seemed to be each other's first choice. But I hope that will become more clear in the next two books. I am really looking forward to the rest of the trilogy and hopefully I can hold out until the third book is released without going crazy!

About the 1001 Dark Nights: Bundle Ten Authors-

Tessa Bailey Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention. She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.
