Ho. Lee. Sh!t! This was a really good book! This book is full of surprises and twists. There is not a lot I can say without spoiling though. This story is about 2 people, Charlotte and Parker, who have lost so much in life and are stumbling through the darkness trying to survive. When they meet, they feel an instant connection and can see themselves in the other. Both of them can see the pain in each other. They do not want to heal each other, they don't think they are capable of being healed, but they want the company of each other in the dark. This book has all of the emotions! Pain, guilt, humor, joy, love, suspense, and hope.
They both have been drowning in guilt for not changing the circumstances that led to the tragedies in their lives. I really felt for both of them. I was very happy they were able to find each other and find some comfort and the beginning of a love that neither of them had ever felt before or dreamed they could find. I really loved them together. They had a great connection. Humorous, sexy, emotional and sweet.
This book does have a trope that I am usually very picky about but I was not bothered by in this case.
Things are not always what they seem in this book. The surprises the couple had coming were totally unpredictable. I could feel something was coming, but it felt very real and not gimicky for shock value.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I could not put it down and ended up reading it in one sitting. I have read and enjoyed Ms. Martinez's books in the past, but this is the best by far! I can. not. wait. for book 2 in this duet, The Brightest Sunset!

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.
