A Note from Laura:

Dear Readers, I’m so excited to share my new standalone romance, Fighting the Fire! This is the fourth book in my Warrior Fight Club contemporary romance series, which mixes military and sports romance elements to tell the story of an MMA training club which creates a found family for veterans transitioning to civilian life and dealing with their war-borne demons. In Fighting the Fire, Sean and Daniela are two of my favorite characters I've ever written--they're both strong, loyal, snarky, and hiding some pretty deep hurts that in the end make them so perfect for each other. And all that frenemies tension makes the chemistry between them hot AF! I hope you love them as much as I do!   xx Laura Kaye

About Fighting the Fire:

One night is never enough… For firefighter Sean Riddick, Warrior Fight Club keeps the demons of his past at bay, even though it means seeing Daniela England. Her ball-busting sarcasm drives him nuts, and he knows he’s damaged goods anyway, but he can’t help but remember how good they were together that one time. Now he wants to take her to the mats no matter how much they go toe to toe. ER nurse Daniela England has lost so much that she’s vowed never to need anyone again. Fight club helps her beat back her survivor’s guilt, but it means dealing with Riddick. The hot-but-infuriating firefighter is everything she wants to avoid, which is why their one-night stand was a mistake. Now she needs to keep her distance so it doesn’t happen again. But when Dani witnesses Sean’s motorcycle accident, she steps up to help him recover. One on one, they get beneath all the snark and find a connection neither expected. As Sean heals, the sparks between them burst into red-hot passion—and ignite old wounds. Now there are fires all around—and they have to decide which they’ll fight and which they’ll let consume them.

Exclusive Excerpt:

As Daniela dropped her bag on the bleachers at Full Contact MMA, her bad day had her sighing. “Maybe I just need to beat the crap out of something—or someone.”   A warm breath at her ear was all the warning she got. “Got anyone in mind, Daniela?”   Sean Riddick said her name as if his tongue caressed every letter, and she cursed the shiver that raced up her spine—the shiver that resulted from knowing exactly how damn good his tongue felt. She turned slowly, lazily, as if she were bored to tears. No way was she letting him know he got to her. So she gave him a once-over that she hoped read as full of disdain.   Even though, damn. DAMN.   So tall she had to tilt her head back to roll her eyes at him. Dark hair cut short because it curled when he let it get even a little length to it. With scars near his eye and hairline and a nose that had been broken, his face was too beat up to be handsome. But it was even more interesting for having character—of the fearless, I-run-into-burning-buildings-to-save-people-and-sometimes-get-hurt-doing-it variety. And then there were the tattoos—on his neck, shoulders, arms, the back of one hand, not to mention the hard muscles underneath, because of course the guy was freaking cut, with shoulders like mountains and thighs like tree trunks. Sean oozed unquestionable strength and a fierce masculinity.   He knew he looked good.   He wasn’t wrong. Damn him.   And damn her for being stupid enough to find out just how good he was. Just that once.   But it’d been enough to keep her body attuned to him even as her head screamed been there, done that, shouldn’t have done it the first time and ain’t doing it again.   Dani sniffed. “Not you.”   His grin was pure wicked sin. “You sure about that?”   She sighed. “Absolutely.”   He gave a low chuckle. “Well, you’re welcome to try to beat the shit out of me any time.”   “Don’t you have anyone else to irritate?”   “Oh, I irritate you, do I?” he asked, dropping his bag to the floor. He winked at their friend, Tara. “Hey, T.”   “Hey, Sean,” Tara said, amusement plain in her voice.   Just then, one of the few other women who belonged to WFC walked through the door. “Oh, Jayne’s here,” Dani said, surprised because her friend hadn’t attended in weeks.   Without another word to Sean, Dani and Tara left him to greet her.   Halfway across the gym, Tara leaned in close. “Seriously, do you really dislike Riddick or are the two of you in a perpetual state of foreplay?”   Dani threw her a look that made the other woman chuckle. “Ugh, you really can’t tell?”   Tara twisted her lips and shook her head. “Nope. But something’s different between you guys lately, and I’m dying to know the story.”   “There’s no story,” Dani said. Probably too fast. Definitely too fast, given that Tara had also picked up on the heightened friction between them. Because, of course, there was a big freaking story.   So. Big.

Truth: From over a thousand miles away, I watched on the screen of my phone as two men murdered my wife. Consumed by hate and rage, I spent four years running from my memories - until a shattered woman gave me a reason to stop.

Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.

Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.
Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her.

But that’s the thing about lies - you never know who to believe.

The Truth About Us

Truth: Penn Walker entered my life like a summer storm—dark, ominous, and filled with thunder.

After witnessing my husband’s murder, I didn’t have much of a heart left to offer a man.
But Penn took it all.
Every jagged shard.
Every broken bit.
Even the dirty and twisted pieces that I wish never existed.

Lie: I didn’t need him to save me.
Lie: I knew exactly who he was.
Lie: Losing him wouldn’t destroy me.

Review:
3.5-4 stars
****

The Swoony Billionaire: The Kline Brooks Collection is a boxset containing Tapping the Billionaire, Tapping Her, and a new novella, Be My Billionaire Valentine. This set follows Kline and Georgia's romantic journey in all it's swoony and witty glory. Kline and Georgia are sweet and sexy together. This set is a great way to meet them if you have not read their story before!

My review for Tapping the Billionaire: 3.5-3.75 star. This was a good book! It took me a while to get into it. The beginning is rocky. It seemed like the book was trying so hard to be funny. Like every single line was a joke. But that settled down after the first little bit (so if you start this and are unsure, give it a little time to calm down). Once it settled a bit, it turned out to be a really sweet romance. This is Georgia and Kline's story. Georgia is a marketing executive for a large company and Kline is her boss. Kline is handsome, but a perfectly polite, fair boss. He has never shown any interest in anyone at the office, including Georgia. Georgia is funny, smart and quirky though. Kline is a really good, nice guy (no manwhore here) and he is tired of his mom trying to set him up with airhead society women. One night, to get out of date that his mom has set up, he tells her that he has a date and he decides to ask Georgia out. He has started to notice Georgia for the great girl she is and he thinks she is adorable. They have instant chemistry and they begin to date. They really are perfect and totally sweet together. But in the meanwhile, Kline's company has created a dating app called TapNext and requires all of the company's single employees to use it and give feedback. Georgia, using her best friend's photo, has been chatting (as friends only) with a guy (Ruck) on there using the name Rose. This leads to some drama: (view spoiler) But everything works out the way it should. I really liked both Georgia and Kline. Kline was so sweet and totally head over heels for Georgia from their first date. I liked that their chemistry was instant but they took the physical side on a slow(ish) progression (especially since Georgia is a virgin). Georgia was strong, smart and funny. They were really cute together, with great banter and good dirty talk and sexy times. Overall, I really enjoyed how sweet they were together and really enjoyed this book! I look forward to more from the mysterious duo that is Max Monroe!

My review for Tapping Her: 4 stars! A cute, funny novella about Kline and Georgia's honeymoon and about Cassie and Thatch's cat-sitting adventures. Laugh out loud hilarious, sexy and sweet! I can't wait for Cass and Thatch's story next!

My review for Be My Billionaire Valentine: 3.5 stars. This was another cute novella from the couple. I did feel like it was a little repetitive to read directly after Tapping Her, as they are both tropical vacation settings and take place in the same time frame. I did wish for a further jump ahead story, where we see them juggling their kids and stuff. Still, it was cute and witty. I enjoyed getting more of the couple.

Overall, you can't go wrong with Kline and Georgia. They are adorable together and love each other so much! This collection is a great introduction to Max Monroe's work and such a fun read!

Excerpt

Leo stuck his hands in his pockets and sauntered toward her, taking a spot beside her at the edge of the roof. “So. You’re a long way from home. How long have you been in the city?”

Her smile wavered, the reminder of her lies of omission twisting bolts on the sides of her throat. “Oh, not long.” She turned and propped her arms on the wall, looking out over the city blocks. “I wish my mother could see this.”

“You said she owns a dancing school. Was she your teacher?”

“When I was little, yes. Around age ten, she thought I needed something a little more advanced.” She gave him a prim look. “It paid off, too, don’t you know? You might remember me from a certain national Red Rover Yogurt commercial.”

He turned slightly, squinting an eye at her. “Wait a minute. No way.”

Reese pushed off the wall and performed the soft shoe routine she’d done thousands of times—mostly as a party trick—since the age of eleven. “No preservatives or chemicals, we’ve got your all-natural meals,” she sang, “Choose Red Rover products and kick up your heels.”

“Holy shit.” He stared at her, dumbfounded. “The audacity of me to ask out a celebrity.”

“Please.” She fluffed her hair. “I put my pants on one leg at a time like everyone else.”

They seemed to gravitate toward each other naturally, as if there was no other option, until their faces were a handful of inches apart. “How about those shorts?” he said gruffly. “You get those on the same way?”

A hot, fizzy stream of awareness circled and danced in her midsection. This was flirting. But not the kind she was used to. Where she worried about every line out of her mouth, worrying they would come across too desperate. Or if the guy would think she was funny. No, it was easy as breathing to pull back the edge of her coat, drawing his attention downward. “What? These old things?”

“Yeah.” A muscle ticked in his cheek. “Those.”

She leaned in like they were sharing a secret and watched his eyes darken. “I have to wiggle around a little to get these on.”

They exhaled into each other’s space, not bothering to hide the fact that both of them were breathing faster. “Damn, Reese.”

There was a wealth of meaning in those two words. Not just, damn, you look good in those shorts. But damn, this attraction between them was not typical. “I know,” she said in a rush, their mouths almost touching. She wasn’t sure what made her pull away before he could close the distance for a kiss. Maybe it was to gather her wits or a tug from her conscience. But she took a long pull of February air to perform maintenance on her short-circuiting brain. “So, um…” She resisted the urge to fan herself. “How long have you owned the bakery?”

With his own centering breath, Leo slowly settled back in a safe distance away. “Four years,” he said, voice gravelly. “Took me a while after culinary school to build the capital and find the right people. The right place. Didn’t want to rush it.”

“Capital?” Her question hung in the air for several seconds before she realized what a stupid assumption she’d made. “Forget I said that. I just…I thought with your father being who he is…”

“That I would have an automatic investor?” He shrugged a shoulder. “Natural to assume that. Don’t worry about it.” There was an assessing glance in her direction, as if he wasn’t sure whether to say more. She held her breath, hoping he would. “I guess it didn’t feel right taking money for something he doesn’t have a real interest in. Baking. I’m not saying he’s unsupportive. We’re just about different things. Felt better doing it on my own.”

“That’s admirable.” She wanted to tell him how much she could relate. Currently. Trying to grasp something that felt just within reach, refusing any shortcuts. How it could feel scary and unfair one minute, rewarding the next. “And I guess you found the right people. Jackie and Tad.”

Warmth moved in his expression. “Yeah. Tad was actually an usher downstairs when I met him. We interviewed Jackie together. She’d just dropped out of nursing school because the emotional toll was more than she expected.”

“So she went for the exact opposite.”

“Only for a while. I doubt she’ll be at the Cookie Jar forever. But I’ll be glad to have her as long as she puts up with my grumpy ass.”

“You’re not coming across as grumpy as you did Saturday night.”

“That’s because I’m trying to charm you into going out with me. Is it working?”

Her laugh drifted out over the rooftops. “Maybe. How long until the grump returns?”

“I skipped lunch. So…imminently.”

This was a good book! The Sweetest Fix is a standalone book and is Leo and Reese's story. Reese is a dancer from a tiny town in Wisconsin. She has always dreamed of going to NYC and trying to become a Broadway dancer. But she never had the money to spend to make it there and live off of before she can hopefully get a role. She gets the chance of a lifetime when she wins an online video audition contest and she gets the chance to audition in person for a big name Broadway choreographer, Bernard Bexley . But fate has other plans for Reese. Her flight gets delayed and she misses her audition. Determined not to let her chance slip away, she tracks down Bernard by going to his son Leo's bakery. She intends to ask Leo to plead her case to his father and hopefully he will be understanding and let her audition for him. But she never expects to be immediately smitten with Leo (and he with her). She doesn't want to hurt him or make him feel like she is using him. And she doesn't want to lose her chance at love or her chance at her dream career as a Broadway dancer. Reese has to figure out how to stay in the city so she can keep her dreams alive, without hurting Leo when he finds out who she really is.

I really liked this story. The Broadway aspect, the NYC setting, and the yumminess of Leo's bakery goodies were all such fun. Leo was an adorably grumpy, loner, pouty man bear who was not very experienced in love and never dreamed a girl like Reese would be interested in him. Reese also never really dared to hope she would be able to really make it as a Broadway dancer and felt she would always be stuck helping teach dance to toddlers in her podunk town. She never let herself imagine falling in love either, as she always put her dancing first. It was great to see them both begin to dream and hope their wishes could actually be fulfilled. They were really sweet and sexy together with great chemistry. Their story was a great read with just the right amount of angst.

Overall, this was a fun, sweet read. I really enjoyed Leo and Reese's journey to love. I look forward to more from Ms. Bailey in the future!

Review:

3.25-3.5 stars
***

This was a pretty good book. The Forever Girl is book six in the Wildstone series. This is the story of Maze, Caitlyn , Heather and Walker. They spent one memorable year as foster children together until tragedy forever changed their lives and changed them all. They have been in touch sporadically since then and as adults, but they haven't been as in touch and open with each other as they could have been. Now they have come back together for Caitlyn's wedding week. Can they heal old wounds and create a new future with each other as family?

I did enjoy this story. Maze and Walker have a romantic history that neither of them ever really got over. They have a lot of pain to overcome and hurts to work out. Caitlyn has major doubts about her fiance and going through with her wedding. Heather arrives with a baby in tow and is a struggling single mom. I enjoyed all of the storylines. I did think the fact that they were only foster siblings for a year and were that close was not completely believable but I do know that they experienced a tragedy together that truly marked them. The timeline of their relationships over the years was a little vague and confusing. The characters were all fine, but just a little bland and lacking in chemistry, connection and love. The pace was a little slow and there was a little too much pushing away by certain characters.

Overall, I liked this book in general, but it was not my favorite of the series. I really miss Ms. Shalvis's Heartbreaker Bay series. I hope for more books in that series to come in the future.

Until Sadie is a great addition by Sarah Curtis to the Aurora Rose Reynold's Happily Ever Alpha World. This book can be read as a standalone story with a few fun cameos from some favorite past series characters. Until Sadie is Dean and Sadie's story. Dean moves to the city to start a new life and new job after being in the military. He meets his new boss's sister, Sadie, and is immediately smitten. But, of course, everything can't be smooth sailing so the two have a bump or two to make it through on their way to their HEA.

This was a cute, fun story. Dean and Sadie were really sweet together. I liked Dean's protectiveness and possessiveness. I would have liked a tiny bit more chemistry but that's just my personal nitpickiness. Overall, though, I enjoyed this couple's story. It was an entertaining, easy read. Dean and Sadie made a good match and I was happy to read their journey to love. I have enjoyed the Happily Ever Alpha series a lot. I look forward to more to come from it and more to come from Ms. Curtis!
