Blog Tour: Hot Stuff by Max Monroe + Excerpt & Review!

Hot Stuff, an all-new sexy and swoon-worthy rom com from New York Times bestselling author Max Monroe is available now!

Have you ever seen a fireman who’s so insanely sexy you’d actually consider DIY-ing a little at-home arson just so he’d show up at your front door?

Dramatic, I know, but hear me out.

Chiseled hot body, bright blue eyes, and the sexiest smile I’ve ever seen, the first time I saw Garrett Alexander in my exam room, it took everything inside me not to do something crazy like mount him during his yearly physical.

Not only is he a total babe, but he’s charming, hilarious, and the kind of single dad that would make your ovaries explode—the total freaking package.

I know you’re probably wondering, What in the heck are you waiting for, girl? Go get yourself a fireman!

But, see, there’s one teeny-tiny (read: huge) problem—if we got together, we’d have to keep our relationship a secret.

I know. Who even am I? Some heroine in a freaking forbidden romance novel?

Let me guess, now you’re probably thinking...Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Don’t do it, girl. Don’t fall for the sexy, off-limits man. It’s not worth it.

Well, too late. I already went and did it.

And I have a feeling this fire of ours is going to go up in a big, mushroom-cloud-worthy, ball of figurative smoke.

Excerpt

Suddenly, the door to Garrett’s room cracks open, and he peeks his head out, damn near startling me into another dimension.

Noticing my hysterical jump and defensive pose, he quiets his voice to a whisper. “Sorry to, um, startle you. I just… I’m ready.”

“Of course. Yeah.” I nod feverishly, follow him into the room, and take a few discreet, calming breaths to slow down the rate at which my heart is sprinting inside my chest. Honestly, for a woman who did gymnastics in her childhood, you’d think my cardiovascular system would be able to tolerate adrenaline a little better than this. A minor startle from a hot fireman and I’m panting like a dog in heat.

His gown covers everything, but it’s strangely anticipatory and it feels like I’m seeing more of him than I should. It’s weird and odd and completely irrational. So, I shut my eyes for a brief moment and force myself into doctor mode.

“Just take a seat on the exam table, please,” I instruct him with a gesture of my hand.

He does without question.

Then I start my assessment.

First, his vital signs. Blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.

All good. All within normal limits.

Next, with my stethoscope, I listen to his heart and lungs and abdomen.

Also, good. Steady, strong, clear.

“Am I going to live to see another day, Dr. Lauren?” he asks once I finish a quick reflex check, smirking up at me from his spot on the exam table, and I can’t not return his expression with a grin.

“Yes, it appears that you will,” I answer and make a few notes in his chart. “Now, if you don’t mind, please stand up in front of the exam table so I can…uh…check…your…uh…te$ticles.”

Okay, Lauren. Be cool. Be. Cool. It’s just another day at the office, and Garrett is just another set of anatomy...

This was a cute book! Hot Stuff is Lauren and Garrett's story. Lauren is a general practitioner doctor. Garrett was introduced in Single Dad Seeks Juliet as the best friend of the hero. He is a hot firefighter, recently divorced and a single dad with two tween kids. He meets Lauren when he comes into her medical practice for a checkup. They are attracted to each other but nothing happens. Later, Lauren's father, the fire chief, invites Garrett for Thanksgiving at their house, since it is his first holiday alone without his kids. They still feel an attraction and soon begin a relationship.

I enjoyed this book. The story was fun. I liked both Garrett and Lauren. I did think they had low chemistry and the book was low heat in general. I also thought there were some cheesy moments, but overall, this was an entertaining, light and easy read. There were no big break ups or misunderstandings. There was a low angst, cute and sweet couple. I did wonder why there was no mention of possible future kids as I thought that might be a conflict at some point, with Garrett having olderish kids already and who knows if he wanted to start over.

Overall, this was a light, easy read. I look forward to more from Max Monroe in the future!

This was a hot book! The Architect is book three in the Nashville Neighborhood series and can be read as a standalone. This is Lillith's story. Lillith is a vet tech and is friends with Cassidy, who was introduced in The Doctor. She lives on the same block as Dr. Lowe, as well, in her parents' pool house. Her next door neighbor is Clay, an architect, who builds BDSM furniture in his spare time. She doesn't know him well, but has met him a few times. One night, Clay knocks on her door late at night in the rain. He knows she works with animals and he needs help. A stray cat tried to run into his house and he shut the door on it's tail by accident. Lillith comes over to help and check the cat over, and an attraction is formed. The cat, Noir, has adopted Clay and refuses to leave, but he travels for work most of the time. So Lillith volunteers to take care of Noir while Clay is out of town. But she is also very interested in Clay as well. She makes a bold move on him and a relationship begins. Clay is into BDSM and is a dom. The couple begins to play together and he even takes her to his sex club. Clay is into voyeurism and he invites a friend and fellow dom, Travis, to share Lillith with at the club. It seems like this is a one time thing. But as Clay travels for work, he decides to invite Travis to act as his surrogate while he is gone. Clay directs scenes via video call while Travis performs them with Lillith. She is really into this and so is Travis, but it makes things really complicated for everyone. Feelings develop and the situation is messy, while Lillith realizes she is falling for both men. It takes compromise and communication, but the three of them are able to form a relationship in the end.

I liked this book. It was super hot and sexy. I did think the romance was only okay. As I found in the other books in this series, it felt more like straight erotica than romance. There was a lot of extremely hot scenes, but I wanted a bit more emotion, character depth and connection. I didn't really feel much romance develop or feel the love that I hoped to by the end. I did like the characters in general, though. Lillith was sweet, if a bit aggressive. Travis was charming and easy going. It was easy to see why Lillith liked him. Clay was only okay for me. He didn't show a lot of emotion and could be a harsh dom. But I did like them all together in a relationship by the end (even though I hate the word "throuple"). This was an MFM relationship, with a dash of MMF on the side. I really would have liked an epilogue to see what their future was like together and to feel more secure in the relationship. I did think this book had an interesting, unique story and I was totally sucked in and entertained.

Overall, I did enjoy this book. Travis, Clay and Lillith share some very hot moments and a few emotional, angsty ones. If you are in the mood for an erotic book, look no further. I will forever be a fan of Nikki Sloane and I look forward to more from her in the future!

This is a good book! Make it Sweet is a standalone book set in the same world as Dear Enemy. This is Emma and Lucian's book. Emma is an actress on a fantasy tv show that seems to be like Game of Thrones. When her character is killed off and there is no more acting jobs on the horizon, Emma is worried about her future career and is feeling a bit lost. She is invited for an extended stay at the lush tropical estate of her grandmother's eccentric friend. There she meets Lucian, the friend's grandson who is also staying there. Lucian is also at a crossroads in life. He was an NHL star, but was forced to retire when he had too many concussions. He lived and breathed hockey and losing it has left him grieving and not sure what to do with his life now. Lucian and Emma met and felt a connection right away. Neither feel like they are in a good place to start a relationship, as they both have healing to do. But they are drawn to each other. Lucian shows his love and feeling through cooking. His grandfather was reknowned pastry chef who taught him how to make amazing recipes. As Emma and Lucian spend time together, he makes her delicious dishes and they fall for each other along the way. The two of them heal from their pasts and make a future together.

Make it Sweet is a low angst, sweet, easy read. All of the food talk was very sensual and the way cooking showed Lucian's feelings for Emma was very romantic. I enjoyed this story. Emma and Lucian were great characters. Both were trying to heal, but they helped each other along the way. The two of them really adored each other and I definitely felt their love and soulmate connection. I did find the book a little slow at times, but the connection and chemistry, along with the sensual food experience kept my attention. I was happy that the couple were able to heal from their pasts and get their HEA.

Overall, this was a good book. It is a slow burn read that is a feast for the senses with descriptions of the beautiful tropical locale and intricate food. Emma and Lucian's story was sweet, romantic and emotional. I enjoyed this book and look forward to more from Ms. Callihan in the future!

Excerpt

“I’ve spent a lot of my evening researching your boss, and she’s dangerous. I think her corporate structure is sketchy, too. I think there’s a good chance she’s under some kind of investigation, and you’re going to get dragged into it. Is there any way you could take a couple of weeks off?”
It was the conclusion he’d come to. He would feel safer if she didn’t go back into that building again.
She shook her head. “I can’t. If I leave, I leave my research behind, and I’m close. If I prove my processes can work I’ll be able to hire on anywhere, and that would be remarkable at my age.”
Well, it was the answer he’d expected. “I want you to keep your eyes open and call me the minute you feel like anything’s weird. Trust your instincts.” He let out a breath and admitted the answer he’d come to. “I’m going to let Kyle go in with you tomorrow.”
“Good, because I have it on the highest authority he was going to take that job anyway.”
It was good to know he was in charge. He closed the screen of his laptop. He should go to bed and let her have some peace. She had to be at work early in the morning. He would lay on her couch and stare at the ceiling.
He was about to stand when Noelle beat him to it. “Hey, you didn’t get your prize.”
“Prize?”
“That’s kind of what you wanted, right? I’m supposed to give you something for opening up to me.”
“I wasn’t thinking about it as a prize, though I can see where you would.” He wanted to explore this thing between them, and having her talk to him or tell him something important about herself would do that. But he wasn’t going to push her. “You don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
He was going to go slow. He was going to get to know her and ease into a friendship that could become something more. He had to be patient.
“I want to.” She crossed the space between them. “I want to give you this.”
She had another Red Vine in her hand. He’d wanted something personal from her. Something that would let him know this woman better. He got his own candy back. Story of his life. Still, he gave her what he hoped was a game smile and reached out. “Thanks.”
She pulled her hand back before he could take the candy. It wasn’t even a full one. It was the last little piece of what he’d given her.
“I want you to take it from me.” She licked her lips and put it in her mouth.
He was fully awake now, and about three thousand reasons this was a bad, bad idea went through his head.
It was too soon. She was sheltered and inexperienced. He was not. He had needs that would shock her. She’d literally said she didn’t do weird sex stuff. He did. A lot of weird sex stuff.
He should wait because she wasn’t doing this because she was in love with him. She was doing it because they had wild chemistry and she couldn’t help herself. He should be the senior partner and end this experiment of hers.
She settled on his lap. Suddenly every muscle in his body was tense and waiting to see if she was doing what he thought she was doing.
“Noelle?”
She lifted her face to his, offering that last bit of sugar, and he gave up the idea of waiting.

Review:

4-4.25 stars
****

This was really good! Submission Impossible is the first book in the rebooted Masters and Mercenaries: Reloaded series. This is Hutch's long awaited story and his lady love is Noelle, the daughter of Armie from Butterfly Bayou. Noelle is now grown up and is a scientist who works at a lab/think tank. She also is differently abled in her legs due to an accident as a child. Hutch is in charge of computer investigations and such at McKay Taggart. Noelle's coworker is killed in a suspicious accident at work and she, herself, starts receiving threatening messages. So her father hooks her up with McKay Taggart for them to help her investigate and to protect her. She soon meets Hutch and Kyle. Hutch plays her boyfriend undercover and Kyle plays his brother. Noelle and Hutch click and make a great match, so their pretending turns real as the heat turns up on their investigation as well.

I really enjoyed this book. The story was fast paced and engrossing. It was hard to put down. I was really happy to see Noelle and Hutch finally get their HEAs together! They had great chemistry and were really sweet and cute together. Noelle was applying for the trainee program at Sanctum before meeting Hutch. He turned out to be a really fun dom for her and didn't take himself too seriously. There was a really good mystery too. This book was interesting and entertaining. I did want a little bit more happy times shown between the couple together at the end for closure. But still, this was a really good read.

Overall, I really enjoyed Noelle and Hutch's story. This was a great start to this reloaded series and I can't wait for more! I truly love the Masters and Mercenaries series world and Lexi Blake's writing is so consistantly great.

Halftime Husband is a standalone book set in the same world as Forty Day Fiance and Who's the Boss?, both books I really enjoyed. While I did enjoy this book, I didn't quite find it as an enjoyable as those previous books.

This book is Dakota and Brandon's story. Dakota is best friends with the women in the previous books. She is a professional dancer, working in music videos and as a previous NFL pro-cheerleader. She meets single dad Brandon by chance when her then-boyfriend plans a surprise wedding that she runs away from in terror. Brandon is a stranger she meets on the street who helps her escape. They have a moment, sharing a carriage ride and a kiss, but they part, not expecting to see each other again. Several months later, they meet again at a New Years Eve party. They have a connection and share a wild, hot night together. Neither of them really want a relationship, but they do want to see each other again. However, a miscommunication leads tmen to part for months. But fate has other plans, when Brandon turns out to be the new coach of the local NFL team and Dakota gets a job as a fill-in cheerleader. She is desperate for a job and about to be evicted. So desperate that she accepts a job as a nanny for Brandon's two daughters on the spur of the moment. Of course, lines get blurred as now they are living together. She and Brandon still want to hookup, but neither of them feel like they can fit a relationship into their lives. Everything gets messy and lines are crossed. Will Brandon and Dakota find love between them in these unusual circumstances?

I did like this story. However, I did feel like this book lacked the charm and chemistry that I felt in the other books I have read by Ms. McCarthy. I did feel like Dakota and Brandon were physically hot for each other, but I never felt love growing between them. Almost to the very end, they hid their relationship and acting like secret friends with benefits, with very little talk of romantic feelings. I didn't feel like they tried very hard to be together or opened up to each other very much. I had a hard time loving Dakota's character as well. She just didn't feel very responsible and she treated Brandon's daughters more like buddies. But the book had some pluses. The story was pretty fun and an easy read. Brandon's daughters were cute. There were some enjoyable moments.

Overall, I did like the book, but it wasn't my favorite by this author. However, I still enjoy the books set in this world and I look forward to more from her in the future.

Excerpt

The plan had a flaw.

I hadn’t counted on someone being right at the bottom of the railing, pressed against it, holding a drink.

There was no way to stop myself. I tried, attempting to jump off the railing, but my timing was off. I was going too fast, and before I could maneuver, I just plowed into the back of him. As if he had sensed movement behind him, he turned exactly at the moment of collision. My center of gravity was off and I was falling head down.

I took an elbow to the chin.

And a martini in the face.

Vodka went into my mouth. Not bad.

Vodka went up my nose. Not great.

Vodka went in my eye. That freaking sucked. “Ow!”

I grabbed the guy around the midsection and tried to find my feet. My eyes were closed against the blinding, stinging liquid. Damn it. It was a dirty martini. Olive juice on top of vodka really was a bad combination. In my eye, anyway. I licked it off my lips.

“Are you okay?”

I couldn’t see shit, eyes watering viciously and still primarily closed, but I managed to right myself to a standing position. “I think so.”

Except for the fact that a giant manhand was on my face, attempting to wipe away the spilled drink. It almost made me lose my balance all over again.

I took a step back to escape the swiping.

“Dakota?”

The man knew my name. Thank God. That would be way less embarrassing than running into a total stranger. Unless it was the landlord because I owed him two hundred bucks. I wasn’t sure I was ever going to know because my eyes were still stinging and I had zero visibility. But I used my knuckle and dried my tears.

My words died when I realized who this guy was.

It was him.

Brandon.

The man who had helped me escape my surprise wedding and taken me ice-skating at Rockefeller Center.

Standing there in a navy button-up shirt over tight black jeans that showed off his muscular build. Looking big and broad and sexy as hell. His eyes were wide in recognition.

“Dakota,” he murmured again, this time without question.

His tone was so pleased, so sensual, so intimate, like we had shared something more than one hot kiss under the mistletoe, that I nearly had an orgasm listening to him.

“It’s you,” I said, because I’ve always wanted to say that. They do it in movies all the time, and never, ever, in real life is there an opportunity to say something as dramatic as “it’s you.” But this was my chance and I took it.

I had been absolutely sure I would never see this man again and yet, here he was standing in front of me.

He loves the sweet life

But there’s something missing in his life, and he can’t quite put his finger on it. When he’s assigned to a case that involves investigating a biochemical company, he meets a woman who’s sweeter than any candy. Maybe she’s just the thing to make him feel complete.

She’s ready for the future

Noelle LaVigne has faced plenty of tragedy in her life, but she’s on the right path now. Between her new job and settling into a new city, she’s got no time for dating or relationships. She’s worked hard to get where she is, and no man is going to push her off track. Except the minute Hutch crosses her path she can’t seem to think about anything but the handsome security expert. He’s there to find a corporate spy, but late-night work sessions make her think they’ve both found something much more meaningful.

A twist they never saw coming

When the case becomes dangerous, both of their futures are on the line. And when the bullets start flying, they will have to learn to trust in each other if they hope to survive.

New Release: holdout by Jaqueline Snowe + Review & Excerpt!

Holdout by Jaqueline Snowe is now available!

Blurb

Jonah Daniels has enough work preparing for his hockey season without spending time interviewing a roommate to help share expenses. So when some dude answers J.D.’s ad and agrees to his terms, he puts a key under the mat and leaves for practice.

What he doesn’t expect is that his new roommate is not a dude at all, but an overtalkative, energetic hottie. What’s worse? She’s the younger sister of his friend on the team, and she’s sworn him to secrecy.

Ryann Reiner needs a place to live, stat. After an incident at the dorms that almost tanked her scholarship, Ryann wants a boring roommate who’ll leave her alone. J.D. almost fits the bill. He lives and breathes hockey, just like her brother, and he wouldn’t know a joke unless it hip-checked him against the boards.

He’s also gorgeous. And broody. And he looks fine on laundry day, in too little clothing. Soon, late-night study sessions turn into dangerous flirting. And then a kiss turns into more. But they’re determined to keep things in the feelings-free zone.

Until lines blur and tensions rise when Ryann’s brother learns the truth. And both their hearts are skating on thin ice...

Moo U Hockey: https://hearteyespress.com/wotn#/moo-u-hockey/

Excerpt:

Without overthinking my decision, I stomped out of my room and snatched a piece of blank paper from the bag hanging from one of the kitchen chairs. “We need rules.”

She tiptoed from her bed to the edge of her room and tilted her head out. “I can stay?”

A growl escaped before I could stop it. “Yes.”

“You sound thrilled,” she said, her annoyingly upbeat voice making everything worse. She continued leaning on her doorframe, her green tank top bearing the word MOO U on her chest, pointing out she was very much a female.

         And Michael’s little sister.

“I’m not thrilled.” I narrowed my eyes when she grinned at me, all wide-eyed and happy. It was like she knew the punchline of a joke I wasn’t privy to. “Why are you smiling?”

“You really are grumpy.” She lifted one slim shoulder in a shrug and adjusted her long blonde hair into a ball on the top of her head. Her walk was more of a glide over to the kitchen chair. She sat and pulled her legs up to her chest, wrapping her arms around her knees. “You want to discuss rules?”

         “Yes.”

I fumbled around in the side pocket and grabbed a pen, writing RULES in all caps. “No mess, no parties, no friends coming over, no loud music, no hooking up, no girl stuff everywhere.”

“Wait? Whoa, whoa, whoa.” She held up a hand. She wore three small silver rings on her tiny fingers, and the light hit them just right, drawing my attention. “Settle down there, Jonah. You’re going to burst a vein in your forehead.”

I ran a hand over my forehead at her comment, smoothing down the lines that always appeared when I frowned—which was often. “I’m fine.”

“Is this a dictatorship, or am I allowed to offer suggestions?” She tapped her nails on the table, and I hated how I noticed they were purple.

My left cheek twitched at her insinuation, and I swallowed down my initial reaction to tell her to pack her shit and leave. Clearing my throat, I said, “Well?”

“Being clean will not be a problem. I will respect your place. I know the season is long and demands a lot of you physically and emotionally, so there won’t be any parties or friends here. I like music and will listen to it at reasonable hours, but you cannot dictate my sex life. If I want to hook up, I will, while remaining considerate of your boundaries.” Her high cheekbones reddened, but that was the only indication she was embarrassed saying that.

I clenched my jaw, imagining a fling discovering she lived with a guy on the team. If he shared that with his friends, people would show up here. Hockey was life on campus, and crazed fans came in every size, shape, and gender. Everyone wanted a piece of you, and once they got it, they left. “You don’t tell anyone you live with me. Not a person.”

“Deal. I’ll make sure all my hook-ups have no idea a hockey legend sleeps on the other side of the wall.” She grinned and jutted her jaw toward the paper. “Write the rules down, you ray of sunshine.”

This was a cute book! Holdout is book three in the Moo U series, which is a series written in Sarina Bowen's World of True North. It can be read as a standalone as each book in the series is written by a different author. Jaqueline Snow is a new-to-me author and I have to say I really enjoyed this book. Holdout is Jonah and Ryann's book. Ryann is a college student who lost her parents in a car accident a few years ago and has relied on her older brother, who is captain of the college hockey team. She had a bit of trouble in the dorms her freshman year and now, as a sophomore, is scrambling to find an apartment away from the dorms. She finds an apartment through an ad and it seems like a good fit. But she soon finds out that 1. Her new roommate, Jonah, is on the hockey team 2. He thought "Ryan" was a boy name and doesn't want a female roommate. Jonah is under a lot of pressure from his family to focus on hockey and keep his scholarship. He doesn't need or want the distraction of a pretty roommate in Ryann. But he is willing to let her stay on a trial basis because he knows she is desperate for a place to live. Of course, chemistry and close quarters make for a fun, college romance.

This was a good, easy read. I really liked Ryann and Jonah. He was a grumpy, strong, silent type and not a player. Ryann, too, was a sweet, mature girl. I really liked that there was no silly, immature drama, miscommunications, or unnecessary angst. There is some serious subjects they have to deal with, like family and money issues. But they dealt with it all with maturity and came out stronger for it. I was happy Jonah and Ryann found love with each other and I truly felt the love between them.

Overall, this book was a fun, sweet read. Ryann and Jonah were cute together. There were moments of humor, sweetness and sexiness. I am glad to have found a new series and a new author to read!
