Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.

By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too.

When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him all the same.

But that was where my fairytale ended.

Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.
At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.

I owed Caven my life.
However, I owed that innocent child more.
And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

WW You FOR WEB.jpg

When I was fifteen, a single bullet changed my life. I spent the next decade trying to outrun the devastation of my past, building an empire that would shield me from whatever life could throw at me.

But all the money in the world couldn’t help me when I found a screaming newborn abandoned on my doorstep.

I’d never wanted to be a father. Passing the sludge that ran through my veins down to an innocent child seemed like a tragedy. But there she was—pink cheeks, red hair, and mine.

Somehow, against all logic, that little girl became the best thing that ever happened to me. It was impossible to stay lost in the past when I was the only one who could protect her future.
Which is exactly why, when her mother came back four years later, I was ready for battle.
If only I could stop myself from falling in love with her during the war.

New Release: Then Came You by Kate Meader + Excerpt & Review!

Then Came You
by Kate Meader

(Laws of Attraction #3)
Published by: Loveswept
Publication date: May 7th 2019
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

In the courtroom, they’re rivals. In the bedroom, they’re . . . divorced. But could the road trip from hell lead to a second chance at love?

“I love Kate Meader’s books!”—Kelly Jamieson

Aubrey Gates is the hottest divorce lawyer in Chicago, a barb-tongued stiletto with legs that go on for miles. When her cool gray eyes meet mine across the battlefield, I want her like I’ve never wanted anyone or anything. Then I remember who she is: the woman who brought me to my knees. The woman who destroyed my faith in relationships.
The woman I used to call . . . wife.
And she needs a favor from me, Grant Lincoln.
It seems my ex forgot to mention the demise of our marriage to her dear old grammy, and now we’re both expected to attend her ninetieth birthday party. In Boston. And because it isn’t already awkward enough, Aubrey and I are driving there together from Chicago. That’s more than a thousand miles of tension, heartbreak, and barely concealed lust.
A little piece of paper might say we’re over, but this road trip is the true test. I intend to get my wife back . . . and I won’t stop until “I do.”

Kate Meader’s super-sexy Laws of Attraction novels can be read together or separately:
DOWN WITH LOVE • ILLEGALLY YOURS • THEN CAME YOU

EXCERPT:

“Ms. Gates.”
Damn, the man himself has to appear and ruin a perfectly fine fantasy. He looks like the Terminator in Tom Ford. I can assure you that he didn’t dress so well before I met him. He didn’t even use chopsticks.
“Mr. Lincoln.”
“Oh, hold up, please!” Just before the elevator doors close, Serena Gleason, one of my colleagues at Kendall, joins us inside. She flashes a grin. “Aubrey, heard you got your ass handed to you by—Grant! Didn’t see you there.” Unlikely, given that the man is about as impossible to miss as a redwood.
“Serena, how you doin’?” Grant’s syrup drenches the entire car and he leans in to buss her cheek. “A little birdie told me some lucky guy’s scooped you right up. Congratulations.”
Serena flashes her hand, showing off a rock the size of a planet. She’s marrying her hunky personal trainer. “Thanks, he is lucky.” Sighing for a couple of seconds at the sight of her ring, she raises her gaze and frowns at me. “What happened to your arm?”
“Nothing.”
“Doesn’t look like nothing.”
“She won’t say,” Grant offers. “I’m thinking maybe a tryout for the Hawks.”
My eye roll is epic.
“Oh, there’s a story here.” Serena narrows her eyes in suspicion. I’ll be a source of gossip, visits from senior partners, and hopefully a tray of cupcakes by five.
The elevator reaches the lobby—finally—and we all step out and stand around awkwardly like we need to discuss our next moves. Sushi or Italian, friends?
Serena divides a look between the two of us. “Should I play referee? Or maybe something else?”
I shut that nonsense down immediately. “I’ll walk back to the office with you, Rena.”
“Got a minute, Bean?”
Again, with that Bean business. I can’t. Not now.
Serena mouths “Bean” at me. I want to thump her and stuff that rock on her finger in an uncomfortable place.
Instead, I say sweetly, “No—I need to get back. I’ve got a client’s financials to investigate, remember?”
“Been thinkin’ on your dilemma,” Grant says, his voice ridiculously lazy and sexy.
“My dilemma?”
“Thanksgiving, traveling with the beast, heading into the Lion’s Den.”
I shoot a look of not here at him, but Serena has already sniffed blood. “The Lion’s Den? Color me intrigued!”
He looks amused. “Think you’d prefer we discuss this in private.”
“Discuss what? How you tried to bypass discovery in Judge Jamieson’s court like a first year associate?”
“Nah. Me driving you to Boston for Thanksgiving so you can pretend to your grandmother that we’re still married.”
I gasp, which sets off a chain of unfortunate events. Slightly panicked, I move closer to Grant instead of farther away, inhale how good he smells, become light-headed with the pleasure of it, then step back. I look like a dancing fool and Serena definitely notices, her eyes going wide with wonder at my smoothness.
“Rena, I’ll catch you later.”
“Yeah, you will, girl.” Serena toddles off to get the rumor mill grinding at the office.
I shoot stabby eyes at Grant. “Nice going, idiot.”
“No problem. Let’s get coffee in the food court. Won’t take long to sort out the details.”
What details? This isn’t happening. Yet I turn, trancelike, toward the escalator.
I know he’s watching my ass with those dark blue eyes of his. I’m not much taller than five four and I need heels to strike fear and envy. But I’ve always had a very well-proportioned behind that looks good in pencil skirts and Grant has always been an ass-man.
Like the recent reawakening of my long-dormant sexuality, the sway of my hips as I walk ahead of my ex-husband fills me with power. I know it’s ridiculous to feel this way because of a male gaze, but I can’t help it. It’s his gaze that fuels me.

This book was pretty good, but I didn't like the end as much as the beginning. Then Came You is Grant and Aubrey's story. Grant and Aubrey are a divorced couple. They are both lawyers working at different firms in the same building and they share mutual friends, so they see each other often but are not friendly. But, despite the fact it's been several years since they broke up, Grant learns that Aubrey's grandmother doesn't know they are divorced and expects them both to attend her birthday party across the country. He knows Aubrey is very afraid to fly so he volunteers to help her out by driving her to Boston and pretending they are still together. Also, he secretly wants to clear the air between them and discover what really happened to their marriage. As the two spend time together on their road trip, they discover their feelings haven't gone away and they manage to heal together so they can begin their relationship again.

I liked the premise of this book and the story. I started out liking Grant and Aubrey, but grew to not like him in the end. As the book goes on, we come know what happened to end their marriage in the first place. Grant blamed the ending of the marriage on Aubrey and held a grudge against her for it. But, to me, it was very much Grant's fault (view spoiler). Aubrey did not give up on the marriage, Grant did. But he blames it on her for the whole book and she accepts the blame. It made me so mad at him and I ended up hating him. I felt so bad for Aubrey. I felt she deserved an apology and some grovel. I wasn't sure I believed that their relationship might not fall apart again for the similar reasons (like Grant giving up). That all pretty much ruined my enjoyment of the book, which was a shame because up until all of what happened in the past came to light (and we can see it's not all Aubrey's fault), the book was really good to me and would have been a 4 star read.

So, while this book kind of went downhill on the enjoyment scale for me as it went on, I still enjoyed most of it. What didn't work for me may still work for you. I still enjoy Ms. Meador's work and I will give her books another try in the future.

My Review:

This book was pretty good, but not my favorite by Ms. Young. Things We Never Said is Michael and Dahila's story. This book is full of drama and twists and turns, so I can't go too much into the plot details with spoiling it. I will say, Dahlia and Michael met when they were young and she was in a relationship with his best friend. They become good friends, and she falls for him secretly, but a chain of terrible events leads to them becoming estranged. Dahlia leaves her family in Boston and runs away to Hart's boardwalk, not returning home for many years. When she returns to visit her family, she has amends to make and relationships to repair. Michael has stayed close to some of her family members, but he hates Dahlia for the way things worked out between them. He is awful to her at first, but when Dahlia leaves to return back to her home, he decides that he is wrong and does want to heal their breach. So he follows her to the Boardwalk in hopes they can rekindle their young love and begin a real relationship.

I liked the overall story in this book. I liked Dahlia as well, but I liked Michael a little less. He was pretty mean to her for much of the book until he decided to give her another chance. It made it hard for me to forgive him as a reader. He does make an abrupt change and is sweet while he pursues Dahlia. So I did forgive him, but it made me like him less than if that had never happened.

This book is so chock full of drama and angst, from dating one man while being in love with his best friend to parental abuse to alcoholism to getting shot to a sister dating the man she was in love with to that sister dying and even more! It was just too much. Yes, the story was heartbreaking and emotional, but it was way too heavy for me. Their relationship was so tumultuous and there was so much fighting and pushing away through much of the book. There were hardly any happy times right up until the end, when they finally get together for good. There were parts of the book I really liked and I did feel the love between the Dahlia and Michael by the end of the book. I just felt very bad for everything they had to go through to get to that point.

Overall, I did enjoy this book in general, but it did put me through the wringer as a reader. If you are an angst lover, you will probably love this book. While it was a little much for me, I am still a fan of Ms. Young and will continue to read her books in the future.

This book was pretty good, but not my favorite joint effort by these authors. Top Secret is their second MM couple undertaking and is Keaton and Luke's story. Keaton has been dating his girlfriend, Annika, for several years. She expresses interest in a threesome for a birthday present from Keaton, who is curious as well, even though he has never been interested in men before. So he goes on a kink hookup app and finds bisexual Luke. He begins communicating with Luke to see if he would be a good match for them and he finds himself interested and turned on by him. But he doesn't know that Luke is actually a guy from his fraternity that he doesn't get along with. Still, the two of them can't fight their attraction, especially once they find out who each other are and when Keaton finds himself unexpectedly single. They have a lot to deal with, fighting their relationship at times, and both of them have family struggles, but they manage to begin a relationship and come through it all together in the end.

I had read an enjoyed Him and Us by these authors. I really enjoyed that series and felt the two MM characters in those books were true soulmates. While I don't read a ton of MM books, that series is my favorite I have read in the genre. So I had high hopes this book would be more of the same and I must admit I was slightly disappointed.

I liked Keaton and Luke in general. Keaton was very sweet and pretty much a puppy dog. Luke was more edgy and tough. I didn't love the way he treated Keaton for much of the book, but I liked him by the end. I did like the overall story of the book, but I found Top Secret to be a little too slow moving. I don't love enemies to lovers stories and this book was that way for too long. I found there to be too much pushing away by Luke. The most difficult thing for me, as a reader, is that I felt little real chemistry or love between the couple. I didn't even get a friendship vibe between them until the end. There is a long separation and no real relationship until the end. Still, I did like the story line. It was interesting and different. The college and fraternity setting was fun. And I ended up liking Keaton and Luke together.

I should address the cheating aspect- (view spoiler)

Overall, I wanted to love this book, but it never quite got there to me. It's quite possible it is a case of it's my personal taste and not the book. Still, I did enjoy it in general. I am still a big fan of these authors and will read anything the write in the future.

Fire
by Sarah Curtis

Blurb:

One shared look across a crowded club, and their worlds collided.

Their attraction had been instantaneous and hotter than the fire burning in his soul.

But Blake Stone didn't do relationships.  Relationships meant emotions, and he didn’t have the kind a woman would want.

Or need.

Anger, greed, lust, bitterness, hatred—he had in spades.

But a woman like Gwen, she would want more.  And if he wanted to keep her, he'd need to reveal his secrets.

Secrets that could send her running.

Because she’s playing with fire, and he knew damn well how badly it burned.

Review:

****

This was a good book! Fire is Blake and Gwen's story. Blake owns the club, Fire, that Gwen's best friend drags her out to. They make eye contact across the club and can't get each other out of their minds. Blake pursues Gwen and, even though he doesn't think of himself as a relationship guy, the two of them can't stay apart. The more time they spend together, the closer they become, but Blake has secrets divulge before he and Gwen can be together for real.

This book was really good. The story was simple, but Gwen and Blake had great chemistry and banter. Gwen was a very likeable and relatable heroine. Blake was hot and mysterious. He had strong feelings for Gwen, but was holding back from letting her knows all of his secrets. He has no idea how to be in a relationship and he screws up a lot. He is jealous, possessive, and sometimes rude or bossy. But it is obvious to see how much he adores her and he learns along the way how to let Gwen in and to treat her the way she deserves. The two of them were magnetic and made a perfect match.

Overall, the book was entertaining and sexy with some angst, and moments of humor and sweetness. I enjoyed this book so much I had a hard time putting it down. I look forward to more from Ms. Curtis in the future!
