This book was an okay read for me. The Pretend Prince is Lia and Julius's story. Three years ago, Lia went undercover as a journalist on The Bachelor, where she met Prince Julius. She developed real feelings for him and eventually refused to do her assignment. She and Julius fell in love and he chose her as his final pick, but he found out about her original reason for being on the show and dumped her. Now, Lia is still struggling to be a journalist and her boss, who has a family vendetta against him, wants her to write an expose on Julius and the royal family, by getting close to him. But she doesn't want to hurt him again so she goes to him to let him know. Julius hates Lia for what she did to him in the past and is very rude and punishing to her. But they come to an agreement that she will pretend to be doing her assignment and they will pretend to be dating to the press. As they spend time together again, they discover they have unresolved feelings that they must work out between them.

This book is an enemies to lovers story, which doesn't always work for me and I didn't realize before I started the book. Julius was a big jerk to Lia, which made it hard for me to like him. Lia felt bad for her past and that she hurt Julius, so she martyred herself and took his poor treatment willingly. I didn't really understand why she liked him so much and wanted him back. As this is a second chance love story, I think I missed out by not seeing the couple fall in love in the first place. Also, during their separation, Lia was celibate, but Julius immediately jumped into a serious relationship that lasted until the present. He was still being hateful to her up until the end, when they finally decided to be together. I just had a hard time feeling the love between them and then the book ends at 88%. Overall, I was a little bit disappointed in this book because I have enjoyed all of the other books in this series a lot. Still, I did like the story overall and the writing is good. I enjoyed the book in general. I still love the world building in this series and I liked Lia's character. The book is an easy, entertaining read, even if it wasn't my favorite in the series. I look forward to more from Ms. Karr in the future!

New Release: Reborn Yesterday by Tessa Bailey + Review!

RY - RB banner.jpg

A timeless love story with bite.

Reborn Yesterday, an all-new sexy and laugh-out-loud paranormal romance from New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey, is out now.

Reborn Yesterday AMAZON.jpg

It was a night like any other for funeral home director Ginny Lynn, until the exceptionally handsome—and unfortunately deceased—young man on her embalming table sat up, opened his emerald eyes and changed the course of her life forever, making her feel quite fluttery while he was at it.
Humans aren’t supposed to know Jonas Cantrell, or any vampire, exists. It’s kind of a major rule. Despite his instantaneous bond with perfectly peculiar Ginny, he has no choice but to erase her memories of their one and only meeting.
That was the plan. Before a reluctant Jonas can wipe Ginny’s mind clean, she reveals a secret that brings their worlds crashing together. Human and vampire. Past and present. Darkness and light. And while their love is strictly forbidden, it might be the only thing that can save them…

This was a pretty good book. Reborn Yesterday is Ginny and Jonus's story. Ginny took over her father's funeral home business after he died and prepares bodies for burial. Imagine her surprise when one of those bodies is a super hot guy who wakes up on the table. Quickly she realizes that he is not alive, but undead. That is he's a vampire. Ginny has an instant connection to Jonus and he keeps popping up to check on her at the oddest times. Life gets very interesting for her and she falls in love with her hot vampire prince.

I liked this book and I really liked Jonus and Ginny. She was very quirky and cute. He adored her so much. Their relationship is pretty slow burn. They had a great soulmate connection and I really felt the love between them. The world building was a little vague on purpose to keep the reader guessing, but I was a little confused by the rules, even at the end. I also was a little confused about the references to past lives and what actually happened there. And I also wanted a little more closure and conversation after the climax, as the end felt a little rushed. But I still enjoyed the book a lot. The story was really fun and interesting. I very much liked Ginny and Jonus together, as well as their deep connection. I really enjoyed the vampire world and the secondary characters, too.

Overall, Reborn Yesterday was entertaining, intriguing, sweet, sexy and witty. I enjoyed seeing Ginny and Jonus's relationship unfold. I hope Ms. Bailey continues this world as a series and I look forward to whatever she comes up with next!

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.
Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the workforce as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.
She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eleven years and seven-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

New Release: Taming Hollywood's Hottest Bad Boy by Max Monroe + Review!

THBB - RB banner

Do people say they hate someone’s guts so that they can still fall stupidly, head-over-heels in love with the other parts?

Asking for a friend.

Taming Hollywood’s Baddest Boy, an all-new hilarious enemies to lovers standalone from New York Times bestselling author Max Monroe, is available now!

Taming Hollywood_s Baddest Boy(final cover)

Okay, fine. I’m not asking for a friend.

I’m asking for me—and I’m begging you to tell me that the practice of falling in love with your should-be-enemy is common.
Please tell me that I’m not the only person to track down a guy—who used to be Hollywood’s baddest bad boy before he left LA for good—at his off-the-grid cabin in Alaska, show up unannounced, and find him gloriously naked.

This probably happens all the time…right?

Tell me I’m not alone in my stupidity—that I’m not the only woman who would fall for gorgeous blue eyes and a sexy devilish smirk, even if they belong to a broody, mysterious jerk.

Please. Please. Please. Tell me I’m not alone in this.

For the love of everything, I need all the supportive girl power I can get if I’m going to convince Luca Weaver to come back to Hollywood—otherwise known as the place he hates so much that he ghosted Oscar-level success and escaped to no-man’s-land for the last eight years just to avoid it.

Yeah, don’t worry—that smoke you’re smelling isn’t your house catching fire as you read this…it’s just my career and what was previously known as my heart going up in flames.

Gah. Is it just me, or am I totally, completely, and utterly screwed?

Review:

3.5 stars

This was a pretty good book, but not my favorite by Max Monroe. Taming Hollywood's Baddest Boy is a light romp through the Alaskan wilderness and from there to Hollywood. This is Billie and Luca's story. Billie is a production assistant to a big Hollywood producer. Luca is a former child star turned Hollywood actor bad boy, who blazed bright and burned out with a bad reputation. He left Hollywood years ago and moved the wilderness of Alaska. Billie wants to move up in her job and be mentored by her boss, over a brown noser that is her office competition. So she promises that she can get Luca to star in their upcoming film. But she doesn't know Luca at all. She only knows the name of the nearest small town in Alaska that is closest to his remote cabin. She must trek through the wilderness and kayak across a lake, but her hardest task will be convincing Luca to come back to Hollywood. Falling in love was not part of the plan and neither of their lives will be the same.

This was a fun story. I really liked the first half that was set in Alaska the most. There is an enemies to lovers vibe. Luca was gruff and not at all welcoming of Billie barging into his solitary life. Billie was plucky and determined to make the most of her time in Alaska to convince him to return to movie making. Luca wasn't really a bad boy in my eyes and his background wasn't described in enough detail to explain why he had that reputation. He actually seemed like a nice guy, even if he was grouchy at first towards Billie. But Luca has a planned week long hike and camping trip, which Billie, who is definitely a city girl and not an outdoorsman, invites herself on to get more time with him and convince him to read the movie screenplay. They definitely don't like each other for a while, but as they spend more time together and get to know each other, they begin to fall for each other.

I am not a big fan of the enemies to lovers trope, but I ended up liking Luca and Billie together a good bit. Especially their time together in Alaska. But then there is a month long separation and once they got back to Hollywood and the real world things get rocky. The two were not great a communicating. Billie was hurt and prickly towards Luca. The book goes from enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers again. I felt like that threw off the pacing and relationship momentum, which made it hard for me to feel the connection between the couple by the end of the book. I liked Luca and Billie as couple more in Alaska, but their separation and poor communication afterwards lost me a little bit. I also felt like the second half was a bit too light and fluffy, when I wished for more depth and emotion. The complications of real life, and Luca's return to a world that he struggled with before, were glossed over. Still, I did like the book in general. It's entertaining with some funny and cute moments. Luca's dog is a fun side character too. I really liked the Alaskan setting and the time the couple spent getting to know each other there. The story was interesting and kept my attention, too.

Overall, Taming Hollywood's Baddest Boy was an enjoyable read. I was happy that Billie and Luca got their HEA. They were a cute couple. I look forward to more from Max Monroe in the future!

The Rich Boy - BT banner.jpg

“Rich Boy was witty, exciting and had the most intense slow burn romance I’ve read in a long time. ” —Audrey Carlan, #1 New York Times bestselling author

The Rich Boy, an all-new “do not miss” swoon-worthy standalone with off-the-charts chemistry from New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott, is available now!

TheRichBoy EBOOK.jpg

I’m the type of girl who’s given up on fairy tales. So when Beck – the hot new busboy at work – starts flirting with me, I know better than to get my hopes up. Happily ever afters aren’t for the average. I learned that the hard way.
But how can I be expected to resist a man who can quote Austen, loves making me laugh, and seems to be everything hot and good in this world?
Only there’s so much more to him than that.
Billionaire playboy? Check. Troubled soul? Check. The owner of my heart, the man I’ve moved halfway across the country to be with, who’s laying the world at my feet in order to convince me to never leave? Check. Check. Check.
But nobody does complicated like the one percent.
This is not your everyday rags-to-riches, knight-in-shining armor whisking the poor girl off her feet kind of story. No, this is much messier.

The Rich Boy - AN.jpg

REVIEW:

3.5- 3.75 stars
***

This is a pretty good book. The Rich Boy is Beck and Alice's story. Alice is a waitress in a dive bar when she meets Beck, the cute new bus boy. They flirt, get to know each other after late night shifts and start to like each other. But then things change when Beck is called back to his home when his father dies. It turns out Beck is a millionaire with a complicated family life of siblings, a flighty mother, an overbearing grandmother, and a few stepmothers. He had stepped away from his life of helping run the family company when he wanted to be more than a rich boy and treated as a normal guy. But after his father dies, when he must return home, he asks Alice to take a leap of fate and come with him. Life as she knows it changes overnight, things get a lot more complicated and the two fall in love.

This story was interesting and easy to read. I liked Beck and I really liked Alice's down to earth, quirky personality. I enjoyed their relationship development. The book is a bit angsty in that I was waiting for something bad to happen. Beck came off as so perfect that I was afraid he was going to mess things up with Alice. When the conflict came, I was a bit confused on what the big fuss was or what actually happened. It seemed like manufactured drama for interest. I didn't really understand the climax conflict and the resolution felt rushed. I would have loved more closure or an epilogue. But, still, I liked the book in general and enjoyed the story. The first half was my favorite. As a whole, it was entertaining and low heat, with a slow burn on the physical aspect of the relationship, but I understood why.

Overall, The Rich Boy was a pretty good read. Beck and Alice were good characters with chemistry. I enjoyed the sweet and sexy moments and the witty banter, as well as the fun side characters. I look forward to more from Ms. Scott in the future!

Excerpt

“You haven’t told me your story,” he says once we’re seated in a booth and have ordered.
“I finished my degree and realized it was basically good for nothing and there were next to no jobs available anyway. Or at least nothing that appealed. Teachers and librarians are fighting for every scrap of funding they can get while newspapers are folding. The publishing industry is going through serious cutbacks. Majoring in English Lit may have been a mistake.” I shrug. Truth is, I got stuck for various reasons. But this explanation is easier to swallow. “Figured if I was going to wind up serving then I’d like to do it somewhere I can walk along the beach now and then, without getting stuck in traffic for hours.”
He nods. “Makes sense.”
“I thought so. I’ll figure out what I want to do with my life eventually.”
“No rush. Good that you can take the time and space to figure things out for yourself without anyone pressuring you.”
“Just the student loans hanging over my head,” I say.
His answering smile is brief and small. “Grow up around here?”
“Close enough, San Bernardino,” I say. “What about you?”
“No, I’m half a country away from home and intend to keep it that way. Though maybe half a country away is still too close. I hear Iceland’s nice this time of year.”
I raise my brows in question.
“Family.” He shrugs. “What can you do?”
The waitress delivers our food, filling up the table with Beck’s order of half of the breakfast menu. Without hesitation, he proceeds to devour it all. If I ate that much, my ass wouldn’t fit in the seat.
“Want some?” He offers me a forkful of pancake, dripping with syrup. “It’s good.”
“I’m fine with my burger. Thanks.” And I’m curious as heck about his family, but pressing him further wouldn’t be polite. Dammit.
“So what are my future wife’s favorite hobbies and or interests?”
“Hmm.” I stick a fry in my mouth and chew, thinking it over. “Reading, films, music…the usual. You?”
“Lots of things.”
“Such as?”
“I don’t know…hiking, rock climbing. Stuff like that.”
“So basically I like to sit still and you’re all about being busy and athletic. We have nothing in common.”
“No. Wait. I can change,” he jokes. “Give me another chance.”
“You shouldn’t have to change.” I swirl another fry in some ketchup. “I’m sure you’re perfectly fine just as you are.”

This was a really good novella! In the Service of the King is the first book in the Vampire Warrior Kings series and is Kael and Shayla's story. Kael is one of the seven "good" vampire kings in the world who fight the "bad" vampires, Soul Eaters, who want to take over the world. He was widowed 300 years ago during a Soul Eater attack and has vowed not to open his heart again. But he does have to take blood every now and then in a ritual ceremony from one of the proffered. While most humans are unaware of vampires existence, there is a counsel of human supporters who train proffered women. A Proffered woman is a human women who supports the vampire cause, a virgin who is twenty years old, who volunteers to feed the vampires. Shayla is one of those women who has dedicated her life, trained and dreamed of fulfilling her destiny to support the cause. When Kael meets Shayla, during her turn to be his Proffered during his ritual, they have an instant connection and it quickly becomes apparent that she is his destined mate.

This book was a quick read, but had amazing world building. The story was interesting, sexy and sweet. The characters were well developed and had a great connection to each other. I really liked the atmosphere of this series too. Overall, this was a really enjoyable read! I binge read this series and was wanting more!

This was a good novella! Taken by the Vampire King is the third book in the Vampire Warrior Kings series and is Kaira and Henrik's story. Henrik is one of the seven "good" vampire kings in the world who fight the "bad" vampires, Soul Eaters, who want to take over the world. He is dying from a mysterious illness and is about to give up on life when he meets Kaira. She is a photographer in town for a competition and she has leukemia. Henrik feels a connection to her and a hunger for her blood that may save his life. But she doesn't know vampires exist. Henrik and his men take her in hopes that she will help save his life and, in turn, if she takes his blood, it could cure her leukemia. She feels an instant connection to him and she lets him feed from her to save his life. It doesn't take them long to find out they are destined to be mates.

This book was a quick read, but had amazing world building. This book did feel a tad shorter than the others in the series. The story was interesting, suspenseful, sexy and sweet. The characters were well developed and had a great connection to each other. I really liked the atmosphere of this series too. Overall, this was a really enjoyable read! I binge read this series and was left wanting more!

The king’s hands threaded under her arms and, with little effort, pulled her to her feet. And then he pressed his mouth to Shayla’s. Her mind erupted into a cacophony of joyous confusion. She’d been specifically told there would be no kissing. The king did not kiss. But, holy hell! Did the king ever kiss. His large frame bent down over her, surrounding her in his heat. His full lips sucked and pulled at hers and his tongue demanded entrance and exploration, which she freely granted. His hard muscles bunched and thrummed around her, setting her body on fire everywhere they touched. The scent of powerful masculinity filled her nose, and the exquisite flavor of his tongue in her mouth intoxicated her. And, oh God, every time she felt the passing hardness of his fangs as they kissed made her whimper and moan. Her body readied itself immediately for his, moistening, opening. Having shielded herself from physical relationships, she was astounded to learn her body had the ability to produce this crazy, urgent euphoria. Her brain scrambled to process each new, maddening sensation. In that moment, she would’ve done anything to maintain the feeling. Was it always like this? Kael growled low in his chest as his mouth came at her again and again, and Shayla felt the vibration of the feral sound against her breasts. She squeezed her thighs together, seeking friction to satisfy even a little of her now uncontrollable lust. Her mouth was so filled with his probing tongue it was difficult to get enough oxygen, but his kisses convinced her she could live without it as long as he continued to devour her so intensely. Never had she imagined the expression of physical love could make her feel so wanted, so needed. His obvious pleasure throbbed against her stomach and flooded her with unbelievable feelings of power, and just a little fear. Because they were off the grid now, outside the bounds of the rules and expectations she’d been taught during her training. And she was thrilled it might mean he was as affected by her as she was by him. Wherever the king was leading them, she was only too happy to follow. In truth, she felt powerless to do otherwise. A sharp, piercing sensation nicked the edge of her tongue. Kael groaned and she gasped into his mouth. He bit me! They said he wouldn’t— All thinking abruptly halted as he sucked on her tongue and fed. She could feel the pulling flow of her blood. It was an electric rush that set her body on fire. As if she didn’t already burn for him. As if she wasn’t already wet for him. From just their first kiss…
