New Release: Levi by Brynne Asher + Review!

Levi by Brynne Asher is now available!

From USA Today Bestselling Author Brynne Asher…
Life and death … they have a way of tainting fairy tales in the ugliest way.

You know the sugary-sweet romances where the new girl moves to a small town, falls in love with the most popular guy in school, and they live happily ever after?
I wish my story were that simple.
Levi Hollingsworth is the most popular guy in school. He’s stoic, mysterious, and aloof. A man among boys. He claims attention wherever he goes, whether he wants it or not. And he doesn’t want it.
The broody grump wants nothing to do with anyone. Especially me—the new girl who’s failing chemistry.
And Levi is my new tutor.
Little does he know, my grades are the least of my problems. Being forced to move to Virginia has everything to do with dirty politics, sex scandals, and cold cases.
I already thought my life was complicated when I landed in the commonwealth and was forced to live with my horrid grandmother.
But when the guy wants the girl, he’ll do everything to make her his.
I just hope I don’t take Levi down with me.

Review:
4 stars
****

This was a really good book. Levi is a standalone book set in the world of the Killers series. This is Levi and Carissa's story. I didn't read the blurb very carefully so, while I knew this was a second generation book with Levi being the son of Asa (the hero in Gifts), I didn't realize he was still in high school while the book takes place. But the characters felt mature and there was not a lot of silly, immature high school drama.

After her politician father gets exposed in a scandal, Carissa moved to town with her twin brother to stay with their Grandmother until the scandal is resolved. She starts at the local high school as a junior, but her grades have plummeted because of her family drama. A senior, Levi is a shoe-in for Valedictorian, a star lacrosse player, and a well-liked, popular guy with a loner side. He had a bad disaster of a relationship in the past so he has kept to himself after that and focused on grades. When Levi is assigned to tutor Carissa to get her grades up, sparks fly between them. They begin a relationship and together, with an unlikely group of friends, they delve into the mystery of Carissa's family's political scandal and past.

This was a good story with great characters. I liked Carissa and Levi a lot. They were a good match and were definitely "it" for each other despite their young ages. I enjoyed their slow-ish burn romance which was sweet and sexy with the angst being outside of that relationship. I liked the mystery and suspense storyline too. Also, I enjoyed Carissa's brother and their group of friends. I would love to see them all grow a little older and get books of their own.

Overall, Levi was a good, easy, entertaining read. It has the same feel of the books in the Killers series with good suspense and sweet, spicy romance. I look forward to seeing where Ms. Asher goes with this and what she comes up with next!
