New Release: Totally Folked by Penny Reid

One unforgettable night leads to an unlikely shared connection, and unlikely connections never go unnoticed by the good folks in Green Valley, Tennessee. . .

Totally Folked an all-new small town romantic comedy filled with humor and heart from New York Times bestselling author Penny Reid is available now!

Jackson James follows the rules. He has to. He’s a sheriff’s deputy in a super small town with a super big personality. However, strict adherence to the law during the day has been enjoyably balanced by rakish rules at night. Jackson, typically happy to protect and serve (and serve, and serve), starts questioning the value of wayward evenings when they begin to feel more like being waylaid rather than getting laid. Could it be that Green Valley's most eligible—and notorious—bachelor longs for something (and someone) real?

Mega movie star Raquel Ezra follows only one rule: always leave them wanting more. Strict adherence to this single rule has served her well. Studio execs, reporters, audiences, fans, lovers—no one can get enough of the smart, savvy, and sexy bombshell. But when “generous offers” begin to feel more like excessive demands, years of always leaving has the elusive starlet longing for something (and perhaps someone) lasting.

When Raquel abruptly returns to the quirky Tennessee hamlet, her path crosses with the delectable deputy with whom she spent one unforgettable night. Unfortunately, scandal and intrigue soon follow. Raquel and Jackson must decide which is more important: following their rules? Or, at long last, finding something real.

TOTALLY FOLKED is a standalone, contemporary romantic comedy novel and book #1 in the Good Folk: Modern Folktales series.

New Release: Mr. Stone by Sarah Curtis + Review!

Mr. Stone by Sarah Curtis is now available!

Damon Slone wanted his new assistant. And not only to type his memos.
It was his personal policy to never mix business with pleasure, but he was a man who went after what he desired.
His solution?
Make her job so unpleasant, she’d beg to quit. And then he’d have her begging for something else entirely.
There was just one problem with his master plan. He hadn’t counted on his lovely assistant being so damn stubborn.

Raising her teenage brother, Emma Jones couldn’t afford to lose her job and nothing her boss dished out would make her quit.
Not the late hours.
Not the menial errands.
Not even his infuriatingly inflexible and stony attitude.
But though Emma may hate her boss, she was content in knowing her brother was taken care of.

Then, one night changed everything.
Damon and Emma's lives were shaken. Their world literally rocked.
Coping in the aftermath, trapped and alone, they began to see each other in a new light.
Damon saw past Emma’s stubborn façade to the woman beneath.
And Emma… She was discovering that, just maybe, love could blossom in the stoniest of grounds.

*** Mr. Stone is a standalone, enemies-to-lovers, workplace-romance novella with a HEA. Due to sex and language, it’s recommended for readers over 18.***

Aww! This was really sweet and cute. Mr. Stone is a standalone novella by Sarah Curtis. Emma works for Mr. Slone (Damon). He is a tough, strict and cold boss. So much stone that she has secretly nicknamed him Mr. Stone. But one night, a disaster strikes and the two of them are trapped in their office during an earthquake. That's when the fun starts and they really get to know each other (and find out how perfect for each other they are). I liked this novella a lot. Iy was a fun, quick and easy read. The story was cute and unique. I really liked Emma and Damon together. Overall, Mr. Stone was an emtertaining and enjoyable read!

New Release: It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey + Review!

It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey is now available!

Tessa Bailey is back with a Schitt’s Creek-inspired rom-com about a Hollywood “It Girl” who is cut off from her wealthy family and exiled to a small Pacific Northwest beach town... where she butts heads with a surly, sexy local who thinks she doesn’t belong.

Piper Bellinger is fashionable, influential, and her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides enough is enough. So he cuts her off, and sends Piper and her sister to learn some responsibility running their late father’s dive bar... in Washington.

Piper hasn’t even been in Westport for five minutes when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brendan, who thinks she won’t last a week outside of Beverly Hills. So what if Piper can’t do math, and the idea of sleeping in a shabby apartment with bunk beds gives her hives. How bad could it really be? She’s determined to show her stepfather—and the hot, grumpy local—that she’s more than a pretty face.

Except it’s a small town and everywhere she turns, she bumps into Brendan. The fun-loving socialite and the gruff fisherman are polar opposites, but there’s an undeniable attraction simmering between them. Piper doesn’t want any distractions, especially feelings for a man who sails off into the sunset for weeks at a time. Yet as she reconnects with her past and begins to feel at home in Westport, Piper starts to wonder if the cold, glamorous life she knew is what she truly wants. LA is calling her name, but Brendan—and this town full of memories—may have already caught her heart.

This was really good! It Happened One Summer is Brendan and Piper's story. Piper is the daughter of Hollywood royalty and is a spoiled LA princess and It girl. After a breakup, she goes a little wild and gets herself arrested. After she is released, her stepfather sends her and her sister out of town for the summer to get them out of the limelight. Piper, and her sister, Hannah, have never left LA and are in culture shock when they arrive in the small town in Washington. Their birth father, who died when they were very young, was from there and was a sea fisherman and bar owner. Piper and Hannah are in for an adventure as they learn to do brand new things like cook for themselves, while surviving in the sticks. They get to know the townpeople and decide to fix up their father's run down bar. Piper meets Brendan, a widowed fisherman, and opposites attract when the two of them fall for each other. They have to figure out how to make things work between them and how they can be together, despite coming from two different worlds.

This was a fun story with the perfect balance of emotion and humor. I am not a Schitt's Creek fan. I just couldn't get into it. So I was a bit wary that I wouldn't love this book, or Piper, who is based on Alexis Rose. But that wasn't the case. Piper does come off a bit silly at first, but I ended up really liking her as I got to know her. She is a good person with heart. She and Brendan were awesome together. Brendan was such a good hero. He worshipped Piper and she loved him very much as well. This book was the "dead ex" trope done right. It was no contest between Brendan's love for Piper. He was consumed by her, while his dead wife was more of a marriage of convenience.

It Happened One Summer was such a good story. It was unique, fun, and super sexy. The cartoon cover was not my favorite at all. It really did not fit the story and doesn't not give prospective readers a true picture of the story they are about to read. Despite that, this book had it all. Really good characters, a great story, depth and chemistry. The small town fishing village setting was fun and different. It was really great seeing Piper grow and come into her own and seeing Brendan open up and fall in love. The two of them were awesome together.

Overall, this was a great book. I really enjoyed Piper and Brendan's story. I can't wait to read Hannah's story in the future and see what Ms. Bailey comes up with next!

New Release: Exposed by Kristen Callihan + Review!

Exposed (VIP #4) by Kristen Callihan is now live!

Brenna

There are some people in life who know exactly how to push your buttons. For me, it’s Rye Peterson. We can’t spend more than ten minutes together before we’re at each other’s throats, which makes working together that much harder. Rye is the bassist for Kill John, the biggest rock band in the world, and I am his publicist. It doesn’t help that the man is gorgeous, funny, talented, and…never takes anything seriously. Avoidance is key.

But everything changes when he overhears something he shouldn’t: a confession made in a moment of weakness. Now the man I’ve tried so hard to ignore is offering me the greatest temptation of all—him.

Rye

Brenna James is the one. The one I can’t have. The one I can’t get out of my mind. Believe me, I’ve tried; the woman loathes me. I managed well enough—until I heard her say she’s as lonely as I am. That she needed to be touched, held, satisfied. And I could no longer deny the truth: I wanted to be the one to give her what she craved.

I convinced her that it would just be sex, mutual satisfaction with nothing deeper. But the moment I have her, she becomes my world. I’ve never given her a good reason to trust me before. Now, I’ve got to show Brenna that we’re so much better together than we ever were apart.

Things are going to get messy. But getting messy with Brenna is what I do best.

Review:
4.5 stars
****
This book was so good! Near perfection. I'm going to gush a bit over this one, so be warned. Exposed is Brenna and Rye's story. The two of them have had some tension in the previous books, but, in this book, we find out what their history is and why they act the way they do around each other. Rye is a famous music and in the band Kill John. Brenna is the manager of the band and one of the member's cousin. They grew up together and have had a love/hate relationship with each other over the years. Things between them are complicated and they have a lot of history, but everything comes to a head in the present. It is now time for them to work things out and become who they are really meant to be together.

Exposed was an amazing book. I never give 5 stars, but this was nearly there. I only didn't go higher because I couldn't identify with Brenna quite as much as some other heroines. Still, this was a superb read. It was so romantic, sweet and sexy with amazing chemistry and connection between the couple. The pacing was perfect and the writing was truly stellar. I loved Rye and Brenna together. Their complicated history spans years, but they were meant to be together. Rye was a doll. I loved him and the way he adored Brenna. I liked Brenna as well. She was strong and independant on the outside, but not as much on the inside. I was so happy that they worked everything out between them so that they could be happy with each other. The two of them could be themselves, let their guard down and really knew each other like no one else knew them. I did want a little more of a glimpse into their day to day lives together in the future. But, still, this was an amazing read.

Overall, I loved this book. I have really enjoyed this series and find the books keep getting better and better. They're all really great reads and I can't wait to read Whip's story in the future. I look forward to more from Ms. Callihan!

Review:

3.5-3.75 stars

***

I liked this book! Pause is book two in the Larsen Brothers series by Kylie Scott. This is Leif, the brother of the hero in Repeat, and Anna's book. Anna is in a hit and run car accident. Leif happens upon the accident and helps save her life. After the accident, Anna is in a coma for a while. When she wakes up, she finds out her husband and her best friend are now together. Anna has to figure out how to rebuild her new life, without her old marriage or her old job. Her new friend, Leif, helps her get back on her feet and romance blossoms.

This was a good story. Anna and Leif were cute together. Their romance is slow burn and they didn't oficially get together until close to the end. I wanted them to get together a bit sooner. Anna was a worrier and got in her own head a lot. Leif was a laid back, flirty, funny and charming guy but he didn't do any of the chasing. He let Anna lead, which made sense because of everything she had been through, but I still wanted a bit more "take charge-ness" out of him to help settle her worries. Still, they were a fun couple and I liked them. I didn't feel a ton of chemistry, nor did the story cause me to feel a lot of deep emotions. But Pause was a very entertaining, fun, enjoyable and easy read.

Overall, I enjoyed Leif and Anna's story. I was happy they worked everything out between them and got the HEA they deserved. I am enjoying this series and I hope this is not the end. I look forward to what comes next from Ms. Scott!

About FORTUNATE SON:

Ry Archer and Bowe Keller are as different as night and day. But that doesn't stop the childhood frenemies from reconnecting whenever one of them needs some help tackling any of life's major puzzles, like figuring out why getting what you always thought you wanted isn't living up to all the hype. They might constantly rub each other the wrong way (except for the times when they rub each other the really-really right way), but there is no denying they've always made one hell of a great team. They manage to balance each other out… when they aren't driving each other crazy. For Ry, he thought he had the perfect girl, the one who was going to run headfirst into a me-thodically planned future. He was going to marry young and have the same kind of legendary, life-long romance his parents did… or so he believed. His girl was going to stand by his side as he chased his dream of being a professional football player all the way to the NFL. He was wrong. Now, Ry's gotta figure out the difference between a bruised heart and a broken one, and the only person who can teach him the difference is Bowe. Bowe always felt like she had to run before she learned to walk to keep up with her father's mu-sical legacy. He's her hero, and she wants nothing more than to make him proud. Bowe's about to figure out that maybe she wasn't meant to be in a rock and roll band and that it is possible she let her father's success cloud her idea of what making music should be. Bowe needs to find her own path to fame, and there's a good chance she wouldn't be brave enough or bold enough to start over if Ry Archer hadn't charmed his way back into her life when she least expected it. Some days they're enemies. Other days they're lovers. For a while, they were strangers. But now, it feels more like they might have always been soulmates. Eventually, Ry and Bowe realize that letting go of an old dream and creating a new one is much easier to do with the right person by your side.

This was a good book. Fortunate Son has the charm of the Marked Men series and has so many possibilities for more great stories about the now-grown children of the original characters. This is Ry and Bowe's book. Ry and Bowe have a complicated history as childhood friends that ended badly in their teens and they haven't spoken since. Ry is now a college football player and Bowe lives in Austin and is an aspiring singer. When Ry's girlfriend breaks up with him, saying they aren't a good match, he can't explain why he immediately runs to Bowe. Despite their differences they understand each other like no one else does and now the time has come for them to work out their issues and be together.

I enjoyed this story a lot and being back in the Marked Men world. All of the kids of the original characters are close friends and complicated relationships with each other. The first 75% of the book was my favorite. I did feel like it lost a bit of relationship momentum and fizzled out at the end. I didn't feel like they had really worked out everything between them and some important conversations were skipped over. I wasn't super satisfied with where they ended up. Still, this was an enjoyable book in general. This world was so much potential and I really hope Ms. Crownover continues this as a series.

Blog Tour: Treasured by Lexi Blake + Review!

Treasured, a sexy must read novella in the Masters and Mercenaries Series from New York Times bestselling author Lexi Blake and 1,001 Dark Nights, is available now!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake comes a new story in her Masters and Mercenaries series…

David Hawthorne has a great life. His job as a professor at a prestigious Dallas college is everything he hoped for. Now that his brother is back from the Navy, life seems to be settling down. All he needs to do is finish the book he’s working on and his tenure will be assured. When he gets invited to interview a reclusive expert, he knows he’s gotten lucky. But being the stepson of Sean Taggart comes with its drawbacks, including an overprotective mom who sends a security detail to keep him safe. He doesn’t need a bodyguard, but when Tessa Santiago shows up on his doorstep, the idea of her giving him close cover doesn’t seem so bad.

Tessa has always excelled at most anything she tried, except romance. The whole relationship thing just didn’t work out for her. She’s not looking for love, and she’s certainly not looking for it with an academic who happens to be connected to her boss’s family. The last thing she wants is to escort an overly pampered pretentious man-child around South America to ensure he doesn’t get into trouble. Still, there’s something about David that calls to her. In addition to watching his back, she will have to avoid falling into the trap of soulful eyes and a deep voice that gets her heart racing.

But when the seemingly simple mission turns into a treacherous race for a hidden artifact, David and Tess know this assignment could cost them far more than their jobs. If they can overcome the odds, the lost treasure might not be their most valuable reward.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Excerpt

What the hell was she doing?

Tessa glanced down at her watch. She was standing in front of her building ten minutes early, and there was a big part of her that wanted him to be late. Really late. Annoyingly late.

There had to be something about the man that wasn’t perfect beyond his connection to her employer.

She’d come down when she realized if she stayed inside one minute more she was going to decide to change again. Because she’d been halfway to convincing herself that she could do a fine job as a bodyguard in that curve-hugging dress that gave her so much confidence. Lots of bodyguards wore four-inch heels and a push-up bra. Yeah, sure they did.

Coming down here had saved her so much discomfort because in her line of business, slacks, a sensible shirt and shoes, and a blazer were the only way to go. The blazer hid her shoulder holster in a way that off-the-shoulder sex dress never would. And she didn’t care that Hollywood assassins could stuff any number of weapons between their thighs. Hers did not work that way.

It’s not a big deal.

The words David had said haunted her. What did that mean? It’s not a big deal. It had felt like a big deal. Not texting that smart hottie back had been a big fucking deal to her. She’d agonized over it, and he’d just kind of let it wash over him. He’d taken his shot and moved on. She had thought of nothing but him for weeks.

Or he was saving face by playing it cool and she was being ridiculous. The man was making this easy on her and she was inwardly complaining that he wasn’t making it harder. It was perverse, but then she had deeply conflicted feelings about David.

Feelings she could maybe work out over the course of this week. She could get to know him and then she would see he wasn’t as perfect as he seemed to be. Most men showed their true colors when a woman spent too much time with them. He wouldn’t be as patient as he seemed. His charm would wear off when she took charge and he got annoyed.

Yes, this could be exactly what she needed.

Especially if he was late.

***+

This was good! Treasured is a novella in the Masters and Mercenaries series and is Tessa and David's (Sean Taggart's stepson/Grace's son/Kyle's brother) book. David is a college professor who is writing a book about an eccentric millionaire in South America who died and left a treasure hidden in the South American jungle. Tessa works for McKay Taggart as a bodyguard. She meets David by chance, not knowing who each other are really, at the bar at Top. They have a connection, talk for hours and share a kiss, making plans for a date later. But Tessa finds out who he is and doesn't want to get involved with someone related to the Taggarts and her work. So she ghosts him. But when there are threats to David's safety on his research trip to South America, Tessa is assigned as his bodyguard. The two both have some baggage from family situations and past relationships, but they manage to work things out between them, fall in love and stick together through a dangerous situation.

Treasured was a good read. It is a novella, but it felt plenty long enough to have a detailed romance. I really liked the hot professor, David, and the fact that Tessa could hold her own as a bodyguard, but was willing to be vulnerable and submit to him in the bedroom. They were a great match. I also liked the tropical location and treasure hunt aspect. This was an entertaining, well written story and an easy read. Overall, I enjoyed Treasured and I look forward to more from Ms. Blake and one of my favorite series!
