Up in Smoke, an all-new gritty standalone romance from USA Today bestselling author T.M. Frazier is LIVE!
I'm a man without a conscience.
I deal in murder and mayhem.
I'm the best at what I do.
Frankie Helburn is supposed to be an easy job.
A means to flush her father out of hiding.
Simple.
Except there isn't anything simple about Frankie or the secrets she's keeping.
She's cocaine with legs. I'm addicted before I've even had a taste.
I might have her, but I can't keep her.
But if her father doesn't show his face, Frankie will be mine.
To KILL.
*Can be read as a standalone.
My Review:
4.25-4.5 stars

This was a really good book! Up in Smoke is a standalone book in the King series. This is Smoke and Frankie's story. Smoke was introduced in the other King series books, most memorably for me in Rage. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, so I'll just give you a little. Smoke discovers that his friends-with-benefits chick, Morgan, was pregnant with his baby and was murdered. Smoke seeks revenge on his unborn child's life. He thinks the man responsible is Frankie's father, so he kidnaps Frankie in order to get her father to show up so he can kill him. But everything is not as it seems. There are some exciting, suspenseful moments, but Frankie and Smoke are drawn together and fall for each other as they seek to discover the truth.
I loved both Frankie and Smoke. They had both had hard lives and been through a lot, but at heart, were both really good people. They were also super sexy together, to go along with their sweetness. I really connected with them both and felt their love for each other. I especially liked Frankie. She was strong, resilient, and smart, but not hard, and a good person. Smoke was outwardly a tough guy, but inside was more like a lost little boy, afraid to let anyone close to him. When he did finally let Frankie in, it was a beautiful thing. I loved the way that they loved each other and that Smoke would do anything for her. I liked that despite the fact that Smoke had a history with Morgan, they were nothing than more friends with benefits and he never loved her or expected a future with her. Smoke and Frankie never dared to dream that they could find love and have a hopeful future. They really deserved their HEA.
I wasn't bothered by Rage's history with Smoke. He carries a lot of guilt about what happened to them, but it wasn't either of their fault. Rage shows him that their are no hard feelings and plays a part in this story that I really liked. It made me love her more. She was so funny. I also loved Zelda and Nine's part in the book. It was great to see Nine, also known as Kevin (Preppy's brother), come into his own. I'm looking forward to his book too. It was fun to catch up with the rest of the King series gang.
Overall, I really enjoyed Up in Smoke! This book was exciting, sexy, suspenseful and emotional. I loved Smoke and Frankie so much that this may be my new fave T. M. Frazier book. I can't wait for more from the King series and Ms. Frazier!
