Pucked Love, the final sexy and emotional standalone in the NYT bestselling Pucked Series from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting, is available NOW!
As an NHL player, relationships haven’t been my thing. Shrouded in secrecy and speculation, they never last very long. But then that’s what happens when you require an NDA before the first date.
Until Charlene. She’s like a firefly. She’s elusive, and if you catch her she’ll burn bright, but keeping her trapped dulls her fire and dims her beauty.
I caught her. And as much as I might want to keep her, I’ll never put the lid on her jar. Not at the risk of losing her. So I've let her set the rules in our relationship.
But as long hidden secrets expose us both, I discover exactly how fragile Charlene is, and how much I need her.
We’re all broken. We’re all messed up. Some more than others. Me more than most.

This was a pretty good book. Pucked Love is Darren and Charlene's story. They have been dating for two years, but as their close friends can see, their relationship is different than the other couples. We soon find out that their relationship is missing something. They want to go to the next level but both had strange childhoods. They are afraid and not sure how to move forward. This book is the couple's journey to a real, normal, loving relationship.
This story was good. I liked Charlene and Darren. They can see that their relationship is not normal. Their couple friends are moving on to marriage and babies. But Charlene and Darren don't call or text each other unless to set up when they see each other again. They rarely spend the night together and they don't really know each that well for a couple who have been in a two year relationship. Their friends thought they had some kinky secret, but really they just both had terrible childhoods that affected the way they act in their relationship. Charlene has anxiety and Darren is worried he will be traded to the new expansion team, which leaves a lot of fear and uncertainty between them. They both know they like each other, but have never said I love you or discussed feelings. This book is about the couple figuring out that they want more from their relationship and being brave enough to take the chance. It is a more subtle, less angsty book, but both characters do have real fear of losing each other. I understood why they were the way they were and I sympathized. Neither of them wanted to break up and I never thought they would. They just had to figure out how to move forward. Darren was very sweet with Charlene. He was patient and careful with her so she felt safe, never faltering,
I do think the book could have used a flashback to them falling in love. I think that hurt the book a little. We missed seeing the first two years of their relationship from their perspective. I felt like something was off a bit to keep me from totally loving this book. It was maybe the pacing or lack of tension. I do recommend this book to be read after the full series and not as a standalone. Still, I did enjoy this book. It had the series' trademark humor. There was funny moments, sexy and sweet moments, and emotional ones. It was great to catch up with the whole gang and I'm sorry to see the series end.
I enjoyed this book and I definitely recommend the Pucked series. I look forward to whatever comes next from Ms. Hunting!
