This was a good, yet heartbreaking book. Courting Trouble is book two in the Goode Girls series. This is Honoria, known as Nora, Goode's story. We met Nora in the previous book, her sister Pru's story. I wasn't sure how I felt about Nora, based on her behavior in that book. But, in Courting Trouble, we learn the real history and reasons for her behavior. Nora has a tragic history and has had to harden herself in order to survive her circumstances. She is forced to betray her first love, Titus, a stableboy at her family's estate, and forced into a loveless marriage to an abusive psycho. In the meanwhile, Titus goes on to become a reknowned doctor and surgeon. When Nora's husband shows his true, murderous colors, he ends up dead and she ends up shot. She is rushed to the doctor with the best chance to save her life, Titus, and is faced with her past for the first time in many years. Nora and Titus have a lot to work out between them and a lot of wrongs to make right.
I really enjoyed this story. The writing was very good as usual. The tale was very sad. Nora was a tragic, misunderstood woman with a will of steel to survive all that she went through. She and Titus were the star crossed sort of lovers. They were very sweet together once they were able to move on from their heartbroken past. I was very happy they got the HEA they deserved. They were each others' one and only love. I was sad for everything they had to go through, but I really feel like they were meant to be. I do think the book felt a little short in comparison to Ms. Byrne's other books but that did not hinder my enjoyment.
Overall, this was a good book. I enjoyed Nora and Titus's story. I very much enjoy this series and look forward to more from Ms. Byrne in the future!
