This was a good book. This is Joe and Kylie's story. The two are in the same group of friends that work in the same shopping complex in Heartbreaker Bay. Kylie is a woodworker/artist and Joe works in security. The two have been attracted to each other and one night at the bar, they share a kiss, but they both avoid each other after that. Until one day when Joe comes in to buy a mirror from Kylie for his sister's birthday. That same day, Kylie discovers that her prized possession/ family heirloom, a carved penguin left to her by her grandfather, who taught her woodworking, is missing. Joe agrees to help her search for the penguin in exchange for the pricey mirror. Kylie starts getting ransom/blackmail notes about the penguin. The couple begins a wild goose chase as the search for the penguin and they start to fall for each other in the process. Both of them have reasons for not wanting to be in a relationship (Kylie because of her mother's bad man choices and Joe because of his dangerous line of work). Still, they can't help themselves from falling in love and they end up with the happy ever after they deserve.
I really liked Joe and Kylie together. They were funny and cute with good banter and chemistry. I did feel like they were back and forth on whether to be together too much. I didn't love that there was some pushing away right until the end. And I wanted a bit more happy times together. Still, the story was really cute and different. There were some funny, sweet and sexy moments. Overall, this was an enjoyable, fun, easy read. I really like this series and look forward to more from the Heartbreaker Bay series and Ms. Shalvis in the future!
