Synopsis:
Technically, you aren’t supposed to fall in love with your best friend’s girl.
When I was nineteen years old, I was faced with a choice that changed my life.
Keep the safety of what I already knew or risk losing everything with the young, hotheaded soldier who stole my heart.
I chose the wrong man, and for seventeen years, I paid in tears, blood, and shattered dreams for that decision.
Now, there’s a man in my house, holding a gun to my head on the order of my ex-husband—given from his prison cell.
That hotheaded soldier I was too afraid to choose? He’s now a six-foot-three wall of muscle who works at the country’s most premier bodyguard agency. I’ve always wanted him, but now, I’ve never needed him more.
It’s the call I’m terrified to make.
I’m sure he still hates me… Even though I’ve never stopped loving him.

Wow, this was really good! I read book 1 in this series, Singe, and it didn't blow me away. I liked it but didn't love it. Thrive, on the other hand, I enjoyed much more. This is Jeremy and Mira's story. Seventeen years ago, the two met and had an affair while Mira was dating Jeremy's best friend, Kurt. When the whole situation, blows up in their faces, they are torn apart and end up hating each other. Mira went on to marry Kurt, but it was a short-lived unhappy marriage, ending with them divorced and Kurt in jail for drugs and weapons charges. Now, even though Kurt is in jail, his past criminal connections have come back to threaten Mira's safety now, just as she's rebuilding her life. She turns to Jeremy, even though she hasn't talked to him in so many years, because she knows he works for a security company. Jeremy has strong feelings against Mira for how things worked out between them all those years ago. He refuses to help her at first, but he decides he can't turn his back on her. As Jeremy helps Mira through her problems with the baddies, they find they really do still have feelings for each other. Can the two of them overcome their past heartbreak with each other and start over with a new beginning together in the future?
The book did start off with a rough start for me. The book starts with a prologue, which is a flashback to the past. In the past, Jeremy is in the Army. Mira is seriously dating Kurt, Jeremy's best friend. Kurt is a jerk, who cheats on Mira and treats her badly. Jeremy and Mira are also having an affair behind Kurt's back. Jeremy sees what a great girl Mira is and that she deserves much more than Kurt gives her. They both have strong feelings for each other, but they never tell each other how they feel. It all blows up one night when Kurt finds out about the two of them and there is a huge fight. Jeremy ends up being kicked out of the Army and that is the last Mira sees of him, until 17 years later. Because of this whole set up, I didn't feel the love between them in the past to carry over when they met again in the present. When they meet again, they act like they really hate each other, because they really hurt each other in the past, mainly due to miscommunication. I felt like their past love was marred by them cheating together. So even at 30%, I was unsure about this book. But it did improve a lot and I started to really like it. Once the two are together again in the present, you can see that they never really stopped loving each other. This was an emotional, angsty, sexy and sweet read. I really liked Mira and Jeremy as characters and together. I definitely felt their connection. Their HEA was so hard fought and deserved. I felt like they were soulmates without a doubt. There were a few moments that annoyed me- some petty bickering between the couple, a few melodramatic moments, a couple of TSTL moments on the suspense storyline, etc. But, overall, this was still very good and different. I enjoyed this sexy, second chance romantic suspense and I look forward to more from Ms. Martinez in the future!

AUTHOR INFORMATION:
Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children. Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person. She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
