New Release: Shenanigans by Sarina Bowen + Review

Shenanigans by Sarina Bowen is now available!

What I meant to do in Vegas: Let my hair down for once and celebrate winning a medal at my first women’s hockey all-stars competition.

What I actually did: Got senior prom drunk and woke up married to Brooklyn’s star winger, the great Neil Drake.

He’s the heir to a billion dollars, and I barely survived my childhood. Our friendship is based strictly only on hockey, takeout food, and smack talk.

And now holy matrimony. Although we both know it can’t last, especially once his evil family gets wind of our Vegas shenanigans…

Contains: Meddling teammates, meddling parents, ugly jewelry, and a pretend-kiss that nearly sets the world on fire.

3.75-4 stars

****

This was a good book! Shenanigans is book nine in the Brooklyn Bruisers series and is Charli and Neil's book. Charli is on the Bombshells pro women's hockey team and Neil is on the Bruisers team. They share the same group of friends and are friends themselves, but somehow on a team trip, they have a wild night and wake up married in Vegas. Neil comes from family money and has a pretty terrible family and family business responsibilities. Charli had a poor childhood where she was passed around among relatives and no one ever seemed to want or love her. Both of them have issues to contend with, as well as the press and their friends reactions to news of their marriage. But as they spend more time together, they develop feelings for each other and must decide if they can actually make a marriage work between them.

This was a good story. I really liked Charli and Neil together. They were sweet and sexy, with good chemistry. I really liked their characters. Charli was a bit of a tough girl on the outside, but inside she just wanted to be treated like she was wanted and Neil did that for her. I did wish that she had opened up to him a bit more about her childhood though. I also wondered how her issues with her brother were resolved. I wanted to feel a bit more secure about their future with more of an "I'm not letting you go" feeling between them. Still, I was glad they got their HEA that they needed. The ending was cute and I was happy for Charli and Neil.

Overall, I enjoyed Charli and Neil's story. It was a great blend of fun, light moments and more serious, emotional moments. They were really cute together and I was happy they ended up happy together. I really enjoy this series and look forward to what Ms. Bowen comes up with next!
